What can I say about the Queensgate Hotel? Having been a contractor working in Peterborough for a good 18 months, the Queensgate was literally my home away from home for much of this time. It was recommended to me by a fellow contractor a and I'm so glad I took his recommendation. This hotel has a different vibe to it - it's not your run of the mill big corporate chain, it's a privately owned and ran establishment, and I've been treated great every time I've been here. Nothing was a problem for the friendly staff, who build up such a rapport with you over time that you actually end up considering them friends. The rooms are just fine, and the rates are more than reasonable - with a wide choice of room types to suit your needs. Located in a convenient part of Peterborough, you're just a taxi away from some lovely restaurants. Enough about all that though, the reason I am writing this review is because of be restaurant, Sweet Olives - and their out of this world steak. In fact, recently when working in London, hotel prices shot up and left me with little choice - until I remembered I could simply commute from Peterborough and enjoy those steaks I have since long missed. What does that tell you? When I initially left, I missed the steaks so much. I've tried so many others, from pubs to big restaurants - I can tell you now - none of them come close to this one. Served with home cooked chips and coleslaw, mushroom and onion rings (and a side salad) - you know you're getting something really special. So even if you're just local to the area or not staying here at all, treat yourself and order a medium rare sirloin. You won't regret it.
