One of the best pies we have ever eaten. The chicken, ham and leek pie was stuffed with meat and had the most buttery pastry. Absolutely stunning. All the food came piping hot and on hot plates.
Attentive staff and great quick service. Very dog friendly and enough space for dogs to lie down.
We didn't book in advance for a table of 2 plus a dog but we were seated quickly. I would recommend booking ahead though as the place was full and buzzing come 19:00pm! Both car parks were full when we left at 20:00.
Very reasonable and for the quality of food, it's worth every penny.
Unfortunately we were too full for dessert but we can't wait to return in the future.

Delightful country inn with delicious food! Stopped in for Sunday Roast. We got lucky. They were fully booked but it was a beautiful day and their tables outside allowed for walk-ins with a full menu served. Friendly accommodating staff. Would definitely go back if ever again in the area.
Back again for evening meal. Once again our food was wonderful. This place can’t be beaten for the price. Great selection of beer and wine as usual. Friendly and easy going service. Best pub for miles around.
Thank you
Great pub. Really nice friendly atmosphere. Food was fantastic, good big portions so you won't be leaving hungry. (They do offer childs/pensioner potions for most dishes).
Dog friendly with plenty of walks nearby.
Would recommend booking in advance.
We've visited a lot of pubs for lunch on our trip to Dartmoor, but this one was our favourite- to the point we almost went straight back for dinner!
It's a very pretty, old pub with multiple rooms and a fire place. The staff were lovely, charming very helpful.
They had some interesting wines, including a Tomanian Pinot Noir.
The highlight though is the food. Not only is the menu varied, but pretty much everything that came out was absolutely excellent. The chicken and leek tart is not what told usually expect, but much more interesting- big chunks of chicken, blue cheese and caramelised leeks piled up in a pastry case.
They're renowned foe their steak pies, with good reason. Great chips.
The only food item I wouldn't recommend is the cheese and pickle baguette; it was more a large, (slightly dry) roll than a baguette. A decent mature cheddar works better sliced than grated in a baguette, as it just spills out and makes it seem like cheap supermarket cheese, and the pickle was served on the side, so you were literally aerved a roll with grated cheese in. It was all just a bit insipid.
Absolutely every other thing about this pub is so good we could forgive that though. We'd be here all the time if we lived a bit closer!
Thanks for a lovely afternoon.
Came here on the off chance they did food ,as place we had booked a table, lied and didn't cater for our dietary requirements. Wow great atmosphere, and staff so lovely and helpful, my partner is vegetarian/vegan so they gave him his own menu plenty of choice with protein, our son is dairy free and gluten free he had plenty of choice as well ,we all came out stuffed, so impressed that we booked a table for my birthday in November can't wait ,definitely a this place
Really lovely country pub. Great food, with good options for everyone. Really friendly good service. Good prices and a good choice of drinks. I enjoyed trying the Tavistock brewery options, very good. We will be back soon and certainly telling our friends.
Went back yesterday on a Thursday, lucky we went late, as every table had been taken up until 5 minutes before, booking might be a good idea! Food, drink & service was great again, really excellent pub.
We only stopped for a cup of tea on our bike ride, but the staff were very friendly. Good quality tea, although a little more hot water in the teapot would not go amiss. Lovely old pub inside. People we spoke to said what great food.
An honestly delightful village pub with heaps of character. The atmosphere is lovely, and the staff were very friendly and helpful, happily accommodating 6 of us late in lunch - the food is also incredible! One of my favourite pubs in Devon
Very nice and friendly pub. Amazing food, lovely outdoors seating. Dog friendly, vegan and gluten free! Highly recommend.
Fantastically located pub on the sustrans Devon coast to coast cycle route...perfect for a nice cider and a rest. Didn't have any food but pub was nice, friendly staff and nice quaint beer garden.
After pitching up at the campsite down the road on a cold, wet October evening, we decided we didn't want to cook, so we drove up to Peter Tavy Inn. We didn't book ahead as it was a spontaneous visit. We were seated quickly despite there being 9 of us. The service was excellent, food delicious, friendly staff working.
Our biggest compliment comes in regards to allergies though. Our friends have a child with a nut allergy and our youngest has a dairy allergy (both carry epipens, so serious). Upon explaining this to the lady taking our order, the chef wasn't happy cooking the food he wanted due to a risk of cross contamination. We worked together and found a solution we were all happy with and we enjoyed our food and visit so much, we've booked to come back on Friday evening before we go home on Saturday.
Thank you so much for being so accommodating understanding and knowledgeable.
Certainly our best eating out with allergies experience to date!!
Tasty food. My friend had a pie she thoroughly enjoyed and I had a prawn baguette that was very tasty, baguette was warm. Generous filling in both meals.
Excellent food, great swift service. Allocated car park. Good selection of beverages. Dog friendly place. Beware of the slightly narrow road, farmer's traktor and equipment parked on the road, while you are driving to and from the pub. (Only applies to wider, bigger cars)
We had an excellent evening in the Peter Tavy Inn after a day climbing the nearby Dartmoor tors. Despite turning up on a busy Saturday evening with all tables booked, the proprietor still found a table for us in the bar and the food didn’t disappoint. Good beers, food and generous hospitality.
The Inn is very interesting reflecting the local mining and farming heritage.
Highly recommended.
Beautiful place, very nice historic design of the pub. The service was fabulously friendly and pleasant. The food was excellent 👌, delicious, very good portions
Travelling into Tavistock seen this on the map the reviews seem good so I gave them a ring and see if they were doing food and could book a table for me. Yes they said wasn’t disappointed me and my partner had chicken and leek pie and I had steak and stilton pie. Home-made absolutely fantastic full of meat followed by home-made summer pudding which was great. Thank you for a lovely meal will definitely be back in the future and would definitely recommend it to all
Ate here last evening. Probably 4th or 5th visit and never disappointed. Lovely atmosphere with warming fire to watch, friendly staff, good menu and well cooked food. Totally recommend!
