Loved the food and experience. Delightful service. I only dinged it on food because one dish could have been warmer and a little bit of gristle: the lamb. Otherwise genuinely marvelous and worth the trip. Unlike other reviews I think the pub style service is part of the proposition, frills and all, and totally charming. The pub itself feels like it could do with a bit of a refurb to better match the food on offer: windows and fittings could be more refined.

I was very excited to eat here, and the food was good. It just wasn’t what I had expected. Up until quite recently (after we had gone) the sample menu online did not indicate that your choice was only a 3 course, I had been very much looking forward to being able to order a la carte and try many different things. We did enjoy the meals that we had, the cheese soufflé and the bhuna were the stand outs by far. The service was good, but not much different then what you would receive at any good restaurant - which is probably me putting too high of expectations on the meal.

Although I turned up looking as commen as muck, was greated with a warm welcome. The food was absolutely cracking and was rather cheap for the quality of produce, chef skills and service. I drove up from Windermere and was the best decision I made all holiday.

What can I say, it was an absolutely incredible experience at The Dog & Gun last night. From the moment we walked through the door, the staff were warm and welcoming and nothing was too much. The food itself was faultless, we had the chateaubriand as our main and I was blown away by the quality of the meat, it really did melt in the mouth. We're already planning our next visit!

Fantastic meal from start to finish - faultless food in a relaxed atmosphere. We had 2 gluten-free members of our party, the chef & the team catered to them with gluten free variations of the dishes that were the same high standard. We will be going back

The food was amazing! There was a real range of choice and everything looked and tasted incredible. The staff were so helpful and friendly, talking through the menu and even their suppliers - everything from food to plates. They were really welcoming too. The venue was cosy and really relaxed whilst still quite sophisticated. Tables were well spaced so you didn't feel like you were sat with the people next to you. Prices were also pretty reasonable given the quality.

Words cannot do justice to this establishment. Absolutely top notch is all aspects. The only negative is working out when I can come back. Visit it and you will not be disappointed

Little gem situated in Skelton. After reading reviews and a few friends had visited and highly recommended we just had to try. Obviously very popular because trying to get a booking wasn't easy but it was well worth the wait. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was fantastic. Will definitely be returning ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Seriously great food! The place itself is rather unassuming, but the food was absolutely delicious. I had the best cheese soufflé starter I ever tried and a light and tender sole for the main course. My partner tried the rabbit pie which came with a delicious smoky sauce and beautifully cooked venison, but the highlight was the gooseberry soufflée desert, which was totally worth the longer wait (about 20 minutes) and the extra cost! They also had a great selection of drinks, including some very easy going orange wines and sweet dessert ports. Definitely worth a visit, but remember to book well in advance.

Had a lovely tasting menu here, food was delicious. Favourites were smokey potato and the honey parfait. Dog-friendly too. Loved the Autumnal Skelton Martini! You can see why they've featured heavily in the Michelin Guide, a top place for Great British date or foodie explorers.

Tonight was our 2nd visit here, both times have been absolutely amazing. The food is delicious and the staff are so friendly. They even did my partner a suprise dessert for his birthday, after having the taster menu. We walked out very full up!! Would definitely recommend, you definitely get what you pay for.

Another stunning meal from The Dog and Gun , we are so lucky to have this gem local to us . Beautiful ingredients mostly Cumbrian sourced transformed into sublime dishes . Our Lake District favourite 🤩

This is a hidden gem. We were so lucky to book it just two days in advance. The tasting menu experience was awesome. Everything: starters, main course and desserts were so delicious. Well deserved Michelin star

Had a sublime meal here last week. Old school country pub meets Michelin starred food & fabulous service - what’s not to love. Looks v unassuming from the outside but that’s half the charm. Had the 3 course a La carte menu this time, but plotting a return to try the taster menu…and a soufflé!

Everything we expected and more. This was booked a 10 months ago for a birthday treat and a family meal out to celebrate. Six of us sat down to eat and we had the taster menu, an eight course indulgence. I have never spent this much on a meal, but it was worth every penny. The taster menu was £89, the wine and beers came extra. The atmosphere is typical gastro pub, not too formal or pretentious, just a pub with gloriously fab food. Each course was superb, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. The service was good. The meal took us over two hours, so not a place for a quick bite.We left full to the brim after a memorable and fun experience. I'd go again like a shot....Just have to save a few bob first!

We had dinner with the fabulous people at The Dog & Gun on Saturday. We were a large group, so a wee bit tricky for the kitchen and front of house team, but they were great. We had a wonderful evening from start to finish with delicious food. perfect soufflés: for starters a cheese one, or a damson dessert soufflé (every offering from the kitchen perfect). Chateaubriand eaters, too, all very happy. In fact, everyone happy with their food. Delicious cocktails and good wine selection or nice golden ale if you fancy a pint. A real treat. Friendly and attentive staff. Shout out to Szandra. I'm looking forward, already, to going back.

Great to enjoy quality food and wine in a casual setting which has retained all the character of a traditional British pub. The lamb dish with a mini pie was a favourite for me, but the biryani dish was also a lot of fun. Special mention for the fresh baked brioche on the bread course. This is also the most full I have ever left a restaurant following a tasting menu - my partner couldn’t finish the final courses (not a complaint!)
