Owned and run by brothers Tom and Owen Morgan, Bar 44 Cowbridge was already a well regarded fixture on the food scene in South Wales, when the announcement came last year, that a second bar would be opening, this time in Penarth. Tom (Owner) and Tommy (Head Chef) at the tapas bar  Bar 44 Penarth This has been a carefully managed expansion. Having built the business from the ground up, and defying expectations over the last 10 years, the brothers are working to ensure that the new offering maintains standards. The new place bears the marks of their experience, and has a style distinct from the Cowbridge offering. Cus

Reviewing restaurants is an undeniably subjective activity. Whilst there'€™s often a consensus of opinion about a particular place, variations in food and service and differing tastes and palettes often result in drastically different conclusions. The contrasting views of Egg Wallace and John Letoad on Masterchef, and the varied conclusions of professional critics is evidence of this. One of the difficulties of forming an opinion of a restaurant is that on a single visit you can only sample a small proportion of the menu. As a result, there'€™s every chance you've ordered the 3 worst or 3 best dishes on offer. Whilst it can be argued a top restaurant sends out food which is consistently excellent, in reality most places have a few duds and winners lurking somewhere.

We've been to the bar 44 in Cardiff Centre loads of times as we love it, penarth was no different. We're both vegan, and the menu was great, they made sure to use vegan wine in our sangria, and our waiter recommended the artichoke, which was amazing, really nice a smoky.the whole meal was really reasonably priced, and we didn't feel rushed at all. The location is great, perfect after a walk along the pier, we'll definitely be back again at some point, thank you Bar 44 Penarth!

Consistently one of the best places to eat in Wales. Love all of the food, great Vermut and wine, the UVA44 red is delicious. Staff are always friendly. No point recommending certain dishes because it's all delicious.

Well this was an unexpected gem of a place. The food was great but was made amazing by the service. Watching the efforts of the kitchen and service staff was a treat but the exceptional service of Chris (deputy manager) made our evening. Thank you all for a lovely evening. We will be back!!

Excellent, spacious tapas restaurant. Staff at top notch. Attentive and friendly. Food was all high quality and quick service just before peak time. Very good from a covid-secure perspective. Highly recommend this place if you're in Penarth.

Good quality gourmet food. Spanish grown and cooking style. Not cheap but you get what you pay for. Good bunch of Barristas. Fast service. Like all businesses times are hard but they have been determined to keep going. Indoors nice decor. Back roofed conservatory.
