Lovely little pub, great place to stop if you're visiting or passing through on your way to Manchester. Nice homemade food I had the bre and cranberry Wellington which was on the Specials. The staff were very kind and friendly. Thank you for making my visit.

Called in to the Devonshire Arms this evening as a friend and I were in the area for a driving weekend. The atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming and we were hungry so opted for the home made beef and ale pie in addition to our beers. The pie with chips peas and gravy was a very ample portion and absolutely delicious. The landlady Fiona was also gracious enough to provide us with a bottle of milk as where we were staying didn't have any.

This is not Greene King food! A superb, homemade, massive slice of steak and ale pie served with home made chips. Friendly service and a glowing fire too. What’s not to like 😋.

As wet and weary walkers we received such a warm welcome at this lovely pub. Lovely surroundings and excellent beer. We felt bad dripping our wet clothes on the floor but it was no trouble to the lovely staff, they even lit the fire for us to warm up next to. Will definitely go back, the food looked and smelt lovely though we didn't get a chance to eat on that occasion so looking forward to trying it.

A big thank you to the absolutely amazing, beautiful and generous landlady. My son and I were stranded overnight last Thursday along with many Man Utd supporters during the treacherous, snow, blizzard conditions. The pub door was opened for us at 6am. Hot cups of tea was a huge comfort. Can’t thank you enough for your kindness xx

We just popped into this pub on our way home after travelling for a while, we had the steak and ail pie come with homemade chips and peas, and I must say the whole meal was fantastic, the steak melted in your mouth so tender all lean steak the portions were large and very filling, the staff were very friendly and efficient, I would recommend this pub to anyone, and if we are passing again,we would definitely be eating there again many thanks for a lovely meal.

Stayed for a night in the mini camp site out back... The campsite was very clean and simple.. A static caravan acted as the self serve shop (more choice than most campsite shops as well) and as a toilet/bathroom area, all clean, basic, and honest. We popped into the pub for food and loved it! The gals behind the bar were super friendly and couldn't do enough to please, I enjoyed a few Titanic plum porter's and a gammon steak with chips, both were spot on.... After there was a pub quiz which was light hearted and a good lil laugh, it made our night!😂👍🏼 In summary: for what the campsite is; it's fine, ONLY thing I could say is that it'd be noisy in a tent due to the road which carries big lorries all night ..(campervan and ear plugs made it quiet enough...) Pub: lovely food, lovely staff... being a 'beer head' another beer or two on the bar would have had me in dreams, but alas, what beer they did have was quality....so I'm just being greedy there ..😉

Spent two nights here on the campsite, had a meal in the pub, super, relaxed & friendly, & food was amazing. Campsite just behind the pub, has 4 good size pitches on a relatively flat field. Little honesty shop which is a lovely touch, static caravan with two toilets & a shower would definitely come again.

Stayed nearby and came round for an afternoon drink, saw the menu and booked a table. Then, went back and started reading the reviews on here, getting a dreadful feeling we had made a bad choice..... How wrong we were. Staff - excellent, asked if we were OK and did not bother us mid meal, but waited until after we had finished eating. Anything we asked for (mustard for example), was brought to the table very quickly. During the whole evening they were polite and you felt they were making sure we had a good time and nothing was a chore for them. Food - excellent. We had the pie for mains with the chips and peas, followed by a desert. Mains, plate was really hot, all food excellently cooked and really tasty. Desert, plates were cold and once again very professionally presented deserts. Atmosphere- always pleasant and welcoming and cannot understand some of the previous comments on here. Either we picked a lucky day (dont think so), or others must just like to complain a lot. Would I recommend it? Without hesitation, YES, I would. Do I know any of the staff there? No, I don't, just an honest review for a fabulous evening.

We chose this pub as a halfway meeting point for lunch and a natter and what a lovely experience we had. Great coffee; much needed on a drizzly Saturday. The food arrived really nicely presented, more than just pub grub, and was absolutely delicious. We stayed for another coffee / pot of tea, sat comfortably and toasty in front of the fire nattering away for a total stay of nearly four hours. Our hosts were welcoming and friendly and it was the perfect setting for a much needed catch up. Thank you!

Popped in for a late Sunday lunch just on spec and was very glad we did. I last ate here many years ago when it was rented out and left a lot to be desired. Since then the owners have obviously worked hard to restore their reputation. From the outside or looks nothing special but inside is tasteful and cosy with the option of sitting in a sheltered area round the back. The service could not have been more friendly and the landlady obviously genuinely cares making very sure everything is to your liking and you are happy without being pushy or annoying. There is plenty of food, it's tasty and very well presented. We will certainly be eating here again soon.
