This is one of my most favourite place in Oxford!!!! Been here three times and this place has never disappointed us :) Quick service and lots of tasty food to choose from! The portion sizes are large and the amount of great choices there are you really need at least 4 people to try different things! I love the aubergenes, madodoufu, egg soup and their flat noodle is INCREDIBLE! Definitely will be back soon again :)! Also when you cannot finish they give you boxes so you can take it back home. I would say the seats further in are more nicer and the front could have a revamp.
This is at least my sixth time to visit this restaurant. They have a wide range of food choices and very reasonable price. Better to make reservation due to limited seats.
Best szechuan food place in Oxford, possibly the whole of UK. Period. Staff were very polite and friendly and very accommodating to family with babies. Our to go place in the area always.
We ordered fish meat and veggie dishes. Although slightly expensive, the food was authentic and very delicious.
A must have in Oxford! My family and I went to have our dinner there during our trip and it was so good that we went back the next night to try out their other dishes.
Must have:
1. Photo 3: 辣子鸡 (La Zi Ji) - this dish was so addicting I couldn't stop eating it. It had the perfect spice and saltiness, and usually the laziji I've had in other restaurants have quite an imbalance ratio of dried chilli to chicken but Zhang Ji was so generous with the chicken pieces.
2. Photo 6: 烤鱼 (Kao Yu) - for any spicy food lover, you have to get this. The dish comes with a lot of vegetables on top as well, so you don't get too "bored" of constantly eating the fish. The portion was huge (it was shared among the 5 of us but we still had some leftover at the end), and the taste was so heavenly. Definitely an amazing dish to have in the cold weather to warm your mouth and your soul.
3. Photo 7: 风味茄子 (Feng Wei Qie Zi) - this tastes a but like candied sweet potato (for those who knows your Chinese food!) It's on the sweeter side but the sweetness balances out all the spicy dishes we had on our table so it was perfect. The crunchiness of the aubergine paired up with the sweet and savory combination of the sauces made it super enjoyable.
We also got other dishes which were all amazing. I believe no matter what dish you order from this restaurant, you'll leave being satisfied and happy :")
I'm actually surprised this restaurant doesn't have a higher rating (although 4.6 is already very high!). The servers here were very accommodating despite the busy environment and they accepted our request to make some dishes less spicy. I'm glad to have found this gem in Oxford!
Really good, authentic Chinese food made fresh to order. The food was slightly greasy but the flavors were amazing. Good for vegetarians. We enjoyed the chef’s special aubergine, noodle soup with homemade noodles and morning glory sautéed with garlic.
I love this place and go there as often as I can when in Oxford. Their home-made noodle soups are so good that if I had to choose one dish to eat the rest of my life this one would be a serious contender! But they are not a one-trick pony. All dishes are good, actually. Also prices are reasonable and service is super fast.
Their hot pot was delicious. It was my first time trying it and I loved it.
It may be a slight walk away from the town BUT it is worth every minute, the portion sizes and food quality is worth the journey to Oxford. If you feel like you've been missing a bit of home or fancy trying something that's not just a pancake roll and chicken curry go to Zhang Ji. It offers flavour, spice and above all a full belly. Thankyou for your amazing customer service and great food!
The best Chinese food in Oxford - authentic, unfussy, friendly staff, reasonably priced! Must haves: multi-flavour aubergine, aubergine and pork balls, lamb with cumin, & any of the hand-cut noodle dishes.
Their food is good, cheap and delicious. The portion is big and nice. Been there many times and the food never disappointed us before. However, when we were allocated at the back of the restaurant, the waitress tends to leave us on our own, the waitress never bothered to see if we are alright at all. We have to walk all the way front to get help sometimes.
Best chinese restaurant ever. Wish they had one in North London as we only go there when we are visiting Oxford to drop off our son to uni.
We Look forward to dropping him off to have Chinese here.
Reasonable prices too.
Outstanding. One bite of the aubergine and I was immediately back in Harbin. The Feng Wei Jie Zhi is sweet, tangy, spicy, and savoury all at once, a delight to the senses!
Must order too is the Gro Bao Rou, a pork chop more tender than love wrapped in a starch batter, deep fried, served with lashings of sweet sauce.
A constant crowd pleaser is the Mala Tang, a treasure trove of ingredients in a delightfully heady spicy sauce, incredibly moreish.
Get the ToFuNao too if you love your silky soy. If there was a top50 list of tofu, this would be on it.
Not the biggest fan of the mushroom and chicken as it was boney, but really thats personal preference.
Hands down our favourite Chinese restaurant in the Oxford area. We have dinner here regularly, as well as get takeaways. It’s modestly priced. Food is always served very fast, very delicious and authentic. Staff are friendly and accommodating. Took my parents over during their stay with us (they live in China), and they also loved it! We came here for both their birthdays :). Deserves a five star! (I would rather give them a 6 if I could)
The owner and waitresses are very friendly and attentive. Food is very authentic and delicious. Just the right amount of spiciness in all the dishes. Would visit this restaurant definitely again.
Really really really good food. Really enjoyed my meal here. Very friendly and quick service and tasty. Great choice for food. Really struggled to pick just one meal. Definitely going to come back if I can.
The noodles are great but the Tsechuan food is mediocre. Nice customer service. Best Chinese food in Oxford thou.
