Had lunch here with my wife. Lovely place. Great ambience and beautifully designed. Food is excellent and very authentic.
The service is the best, with one proviso. The staff were very helpful. For example, when my wife explained she cannot eat spicy food, the waiter brought over a folder with the ingredients for each dish while carefully discussing options with my wife. We were both very impressed with this.
Now, the proviso: we had to wait and wait and wait to get our food. The restaurant was reasonably busy but not packed, with plenty of empty seats. However, we would definitely dine there again if in the area.
Contrary to the negative reviews, we had a really nice experience here. My husband said that it was “the best ramen he’s ever had in the UK” which says a lot as he’s had LOTS of ramen. Great portion sizes, delicious broth and we were served very quickly. It was very packed when we arrived but they still found a table for us which was great.
Only comment would be that we got two different ramens, the signature one and the thick broth one which promised a thicker broth and two eggs, but the ramen was identical to mine, I’m not sure if it was a mistake or you need to think about how to make the differentiation clearer, we tasted each others and could not tell the difference. Regardless, food was yummy and everything was great and will be back again.
I recently visited a restaurant that had one of the best katsu curry dishes I have ever tasted. The restaurant was cozy and clean, with friendly staff and a relaxing atmosphere. Before the main course, I ordered takoyaki as the starter, which were balls of fried dough filled with octopus pieces, topped with mayonnaise and bonito flakes. They were hot and tasty, and added some variety to the meal. The katsu curry was served with a generous portion of crispy chicken, rice, and a rich and creamy sauce that had the perfect balance of spice and sweetness. The chicken was tender and juicy, the rice was fluffy and fragrant, and the sauce was smooth and flavorful. The dish was satisfying and delicious, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves katsu curry or wants to try something new.
In the heart of Westgate Oxford this is a good quality authentic Japanese restaurant. Simple menu, but really tasty food. The prices are punchy, but when you see a good number of Japanese folks eating in the place then you know it has to be pretty good.
We each ate Ramens which were both spicy, healthy, large and filling. This is good food produced pretty quickly!
Service is quick and friendly. We sat "in the kitchen seats" and had a good view of how hard they work!!!
There are other Japanese restaurants in Oxford, but this is a good one and yes it is a little on the pricey side, but that's what you get for convenience.
A definite recommend!
Since returning from my latest trip overseas to Japan this year I have been yearning for good quality and tasty Asian food. This really hit the spot and I enjoyed the entire dining experience. From the banging of drums to welcome you into the restaurant, the chefs saying hello and the delicious fresh Japanese style inspired foods that were presented to me. I cannot wait to return and try other menu items
I dined here by myself just recently and it was an okay visit.
• Service: 5/5
I don't have any complains for the service as all the waitresses were nice and also helpful. Explained the menu to me thoroughly and answered clearly when I had sth to ask.
• Ramen: 3/5
I ordered the Miso Wafu Chicken. It was alright. Nothing special, doesn't really make you wanted to come back again. The broth was a bit bland. Generous condiments, juicy karaage chicken. Large portion.
• Mochi: 5/5
Man I LOVED it. Especially the mango one, you should try em.
• Ambience: 4/5
Cozy and quiet spacious.
• Price: a bit too steep.

Best chicken katsu we ever had. The staff was super friendly and helpful with the menu. The interiors are stunning and prices very reasonable for the quality. We will be back.

I tried Shoryu Ramen once in London but didnt enjoy it as much as this branch. My girlfriend and I came here for lunch. We ordered the spicy ramen and the buns. The ramen came in a big portion. The soup is tasty. The noodle is perfectly cooked (not too soft). The buns we had are ok. We put a bit of soy sauce and chili oil on top. The staffs are lovely. The gentlemen who took our order was really helpful and explained clearly on the menu. Will definitely come back.
I have ordered the miso ramen, I enjoyed it.
The service can improve. There were tones of tables available, but I was made to wait 10 minutes before being seated.
When taking my order I wasn't asked if I have any allergies, which was asked to the lady sitting few seats away from me. Different waitress, different treatment.
The food is nice, but the service needs to improve.
We sae this restaurant first time when visiting Oxfors and loved the food so when we went back with our friends, we had to eat here.
Love the Kimchi Seafood Ramen😊
Super friendly staff, nice atmosphere, and tasty food. Paid around £45 for the food pictured, as well as some drinks, not too bad. Would visit again!
Ramen soup is great 👍 trust it’s 12 hours simmered otherwise no chance to achieve this high level of tonkotsu soup flavor. Noodles is okay and meets the quality level like other chain ramen restaurant in Japan. Also recommend to choose hard noodles instead of soft one.
P.S. do not recommend fried dumplings, taste is okay but no highlights vs frozen type.
Vegan ramen was great. Very tasty and not too spicy to be enjoyed. Service was good but no option to take off the service charge via app!
The food was great and felt very authentic. The service was excellent, shout out to Varsha she was really helpful and she helped explaining all the dishes. Will definitely be coming back here!
Ramens were fantastic. You can choose how much creamy it can be. My favourite of all was the Chicken Karaage. Cooked to perfection. Staff were friendly. You'll be greeted in a Japanese way from welcoming you and saying good-bye. I love their toilets as well. Though dark, it goes well with the theme.ad very clean.
I came here with low expectations, and I was very stunned with the ramen, which was extremely delicious and felt authentic (close to the ramens I’ve had in Japan). The staff speaks Japanese and the atmosphere/decoration is great.
Excellent experience.
Lovely restaurant with bright and lively interior.
It was super busy, but the staff (mainly Hari) were friendly - they did take quite a while to get round to us so we ended up ordering online. This added an extra 12.5% service charge which we thought was steep and we weren’t able to take it off.
I tried the vegan Spicy Goma Tan Tan ramen as recommended by Hari. This was definitely a great and delicious option!
I would recommend, but be prepared to pay the non-optional service charge.
