Great staff, great beer and a great atmosphere!
This was the very first pub I drank in when I moved to Oxford in 1981, it’s been through many incarnations but this is by far the best one.
Long may it continue.
We dropped by on our holiday to Oxford and enjoyed a Feast Without The Beast - as a vegetarian and a vegan, it's a real pleasure to find a lot of options. The food was lovely, including a twist on their burger involving aubergine. Both very full by the end of it. I've notified my vegan friends. Lovely staff, and nifty Star Wars stuff everywhere!
What a little gem! The Sunday vegan 'feast without the beast ' is to die for and the roast spuds are the best I've tasted! A few mins to let that go down then it's on to pudding!
Great atmosphere. The best pizza I’ve had in a long time. The beer not bad either!
Ace beer, ace service, ace star wars shit everywhere. 10/10 would be my local (if not living in Glasgow)

Good lager, good music. My kind of place.
First time in England and i orded i pint! Love it!
Very interesting place, if you are Star Wars fan, you gonna love it even more
I love this Pub... Best in Oxford... Well done guy's!!!
My home before I go home!
Great pizzas. This small friendly pub is certainly worth a visit for a pint and a pizza. All the pizzas are freshly made to order on site using authentic ingredients, they really do taste great and are very reasonably priced. Remember Thursday nights are quiz night, arrive early to ensure getting a table
Having drunk in a pretty soul-less Greene King pub much nearer the centr of Oxford the previous evening I'd initially avoided The Fir Tree but as Iffley Road only has a few such places on it I ended up circling back to it. Thankfully going in proved to be a good idea.
A good range of regularly changing ales was on offer, the place has bags of personality with all of the varied town- and beer-related items hung around the walls, it serves very good homemade pizza and is not bad for watching televised football in.
Since being taken over, this place has really improved. The staff are really friendly and the atmosphere is great. It can be rather squashed, especially if you're in a group of more than 5 or so, but it makes for a nice intimacy and sociable place to talk.
It calls itself "a friendly, pleasantly quirky neighbourhood pub", which seems about right. Nothing stands out in particular, but it's got a good range of snacks (including mini eggs!) and hot food is served:
Tues-Fri: 5-8pm
Sat: 3-6pm
Sun: 12-4pm (Sunday roasts)
It's typical pub grub: bangers and mash, including some very good veggie sausages, fish and chips, chilli con carne, etc. The sides are really cheap and good, especially their hand-cut chips.
I had their special 'Fir Tree Mega Burger' with homecut chips which defeated me near the end: '8oz beefburger in a lightly toasted sesame seed bun with melted swiss cheese, bacon, tomato, lettuce and relish'. Yum.
The prices of drinks and food are reasonable, (£5-£6 for big meals) although when we ordered in a big group, it took a long time for food to come. They won me over by giving me unlimited ketchup in a little pot. Excellent.
The Fir Tree gets an automatic 5 star simply for the fact that it is a ye olde pub, and you don't find many of those these days.
It is also a great late drinking venue if you don't fancy dancing.
Shame the foozball table is gone. But the pub and staff are authentic.
I think they also do good home cooked food - bring on the Sunday Roast!
Love this pub - my friends swear by it!
The night I visited The Fir Tree Pub food was not available, but my friends and I all had a delicious glass of beer. We stopped by the pub because I had recently found a book of matches from the pub from 1969 which my husband had kept from his years at Oxford. I gave it to the pub manager who seemed amused.
As you step into The Fir Tree, you'll be immediately struck by its distinctive charm. The eclectic decor and quirky furnishings create a visually stimulating environment that sets it apart from traditional pubs. The atmosphere is vibrant and inviting, with a sense of individuality that adds to the pub's character. They offer an excellent selection of drinks that caters to diverse tastes. The staff at The Fir Tree are friendly and welcoming, adding to the overall positive experience.
Really great pub with super friendly staff. We have an amazing Vegan Sunday Roast, which was massive, with several options to choose from. So delicious and great value for money.
Lovely Sunday lunch at the weekly pop up 'feast without the beast'. Bruce the vegan chef was happy to give hints and tips on vegan cooking when asked. Friendly team in the pub. Great vegan food. We will be back.
Loved it. Chris the barman made us welcome. Enjoyed a nice pint of London Glory.
Good and affordable drinks served chill by super friendly staff. The pizza is extremely good! And quiz night was so much fun - next time I'm in Oxford I'll definitely join. Thank you so much!
Delicious pizzas, one of Oxford best kept secrets.
Fun pub quiz and good pizza. Only thing to keep in mind is seating is limited, especially for groups of more than 4.
Great pub with a friendly atmosphere and great selection of beers.
Great pub, good vibes, nice staff. The beer is kept well and I am yet to try a pizza but they look really nice
Extremely friendly pub, it's just a nice old school, tudor? Pub. Give it a go. I just went to use a payphone. Never said I was clever! Haha no such thing now. I'm old. Haha. Anyhow guys, give it a go. I'll post some pics later.
A really cozy place to have a pint or two.
Brilliant little find, poor batman needed another pair of hands but was smiling. Just a lovely ,cosy quickly pub
Excellent traditional pub. Well worth a visit if you are in Oxford
Visited on a Sunday afternoon for the "Feast without the beast" roast and it was delicious! It is probably worth making a reservation, because we we're lucky to find a table and had gotten there early enough (before 13:00), but it was fairly full when we left. The food was amazing. It's all vegetarian, and mostly vegan and is one of the best vegetarian roasts that I have had. Highly recommend!
Great atmosphere, very friendly staff, and an excellent pub quiz (with prizes, and a round of 'Our Survey Says' - which was a first for me).
One of Oxfords beautiful gems this pub. Always a friendly welcome ,this time of year a warming log fire is roaring away. A good choice of ales and lager. Quirky seating arrangements mean you have a choice of lower bar and higher pub seating. They also produce great handmade pizzas with lots of veggie options too. Great place definitely one of my favourite haunts and now living in Marcham I really miss it but makes it more special when I can get myself to visit. Highly recommended, get away from the generic city pubs and head to this one , you wont be disappointed.
Very cosy pub, we went for a vegan Sunday roast and they managed to squeeze us in last minute. I cannot rate the chef highly enough!! He was rushed off his feet but still found the time to explain the dishes to us as well as the selection of homemade sauces available, all the while keeping a big smile on his face. And then the food came out.... wow! The food was amazing in both quality and quantity, with even my meat-loving grandad happily wolfing down his roast. Definitely don't miss this place 😁
