When first contemplating my visit to the UK, I wasn’t too excited about the food prospects. Nothing really sprang to mind when considering British cuisine, other than fish and chips and meat pies. Now I realize I was being close-minded, and that reducing British food to those two items would be like summarizing Canadian food as maple syrup and poutine (which I’m sure happens often enough). Like any country with large and diverse immigrant populations, the UK offers a variety of different cuisines to be indulged in. While in Oxford, we had dinner one night at The Old Tom. The Old Tom was particularly interesting to me because while it serves Thai food, it still somewhat functions as the classic British pub (which to me just comes down to whether or not they serve Pimm’s). We were seated in an outdoor area behind the actual restaurant, where we could enjoy the summer air, although this was somewhat marred by the cigarette smoke issuing from nearby tables. We started off with an order of

I had the chicken wings and crispy pork belly at the Old Tom pub in Oxford and they were both fantastic. The chicken wings were perfectly cooked, with crispy skin and juicy meat. The sauce was tangy and sweet, and the wings were coated in just the right amount of it. The crispy pork belly was also delicious. The skin was crackling and the meat was tender and flavorful. I would definitely recommend both of these dishes to anyone looking for a great meal at the Old Tom pub. In addition to the food, the service at the Old Tom pub was also excellent. The staff were friendly and attentive, and they made sure that we had everything we needed. The atmosphere in the pub was also great. It was warm and inviting, and we felt very welcome. Overall, I had a fantastic experience at the Old Tom pub and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great place to eat and drink in Oxford.

This is one of the best pubs in Oxford. If you are looking for good Thai food, I would highly recommend. My favorite dish is called ‘Laab tord’. Also, staffs are really nice.

Good Thai food at reasonable price. Slow service and timing of dishes could have been better to allow all 4 of us to receive mains at the same time. Addition of coconut rice would be awesome! Thank you.

The Thai food was absolutely delicious, definitely not your run-of-the-mill fare. Service was a bit slow, but the atmosphere was still nice and relaxed. Can recommend for sure!

Saw some reviews on websites and decided to visit here. On first glance looked like a regular pub but turns out its thai owned. Got the panang curry with rice and pad thai. In my opinion curry was quite salty even after mixing with rice, curry needed some tomatoes as its quite rich, but flavor and spiciness was fantastic. Pad thai was good as well although it lacked some wok flavor, cant blame them it’s not common in a European country. Sweetness and flavor were very good. Wish they provided some chili flakes for the spice. Highly recommended

We had a lovely meal for my husband's 50th as our daughter started in Oxford on Sunday. The food was great and the service fab. The even brought him a cake which was particularly lovely. They don't really do desert, so I think someone must have ran to get it which is very caring. Thank you a lovely evening

Nice little place with a cool vibe. I like this kind of small places with personality rather than big commercial chain outfits. It's still big enough to accommodate quite a few people and even has an outdoor section in the back with tables. I went with a group of friends on a week night so it was not crowded but I expect that on a weekend the back porch will be a haven for the smokers. I think if you like old English pubs, this one is definitely worth checking out. Edit: Just found out they make iced tea fresh from scratch! Amazing!
