Had the loveliest and yummiest brunch today at Rick's Vegetarian. Really craved a vegan breakfast and was heading into Oxford and stumbled across this gem. The owner is lovely too and really hope the vegan, vegetarian and flexitarian communities support this delicious venture. Those that want to try more plant based will also love this place. Oxford needs this. Travel out the centre and you won't be disappointed!!
Amazing food and smoothies! So tasty. Sam was really friendly. Brilliant window! Highly recommend it! #Foodcoma x
Wide range of menu items (almost everything vegan)! Went with my SO last Sunday and we both had the vegan breakfast (such yummy flavours)! When we got there all the seats were taken, so we were given a smoothie each for free (usually £3) while we waited for a table! Lovely people, lovely conversations. Can’t wait to see what your venue upgrade will be in the next 6 months, after your business explosion
Best Vegan food in Oxford
Falalfal wraps, pancakes and mezze are must try
Fantastic people Fantastic place Fantastic food - will be
going again VERY soon - Thank you
Love this cafe. If you want to just sit somewhere while you work or have a quick breakfast, this place is the one. Amazing wraps and smoothies. Try Captain America wrap and pair it with Berry smoothie.
Buzzing with the young Oxford uni crowd Ricks Cafe harks back to the Casablanca theme in the menu. We tried the Humphrey Crepe with mixed berries, cappucino and a flat white.
On Cowley overlooking the beautiful Church Ricks Cafe is a must on a trip to Oxford.
VFM, dynamic baristas and a lively atmosphere are its usp.@
It's The Veggie Option
+3.5
Rick’s Café is located about a 5 – 10 minute walk up the Cowley Road in Oxford. The café sells a wide range of food including toasties, crêpes, milkshakes, smoothies and some of the best macaroons you’ll ever eat. However, it is Rick’s cheap all-day breakfasts that draw in swathes of hungover students.
Rick's Cafe - Oxford, England. Rick's Cafe functions as a place to work away from work (or home), a takeaway and a place for a general meeting over food. Lot's of thoughts would compare it to the bar in Casablanca but it much more lively. It is really hard to find the fault in the food, which otherwise many other places sell the same type at lesser quality,
Inside is very trendy and clean yet still has a bland vibe in it with the choice of wooden floors. They layout the eatery just fine and (for an English eatery) it is spacious enough to walk around without feeling like you will trip on or collide with someone.
For further Casablanca mentions, they have a poster of Humphrey Bogart outside his namesake bar in the movie - a bonus for classic movie fans.
Service, at least for my turn here, was a mixed bag. In the defense of the staff it was very busy (lunch time on a Saturday). My order seemed to take a while and when it came I had to remind them that it was to go (third time to mention it). The waitress to brought it out finally was apologetic and not rude so it was not too bad.
I got a Fat Rick's sandwich (meatball, pepperoni, caramelised onion, mozzarella cheese and a garlic-herb sauce) with a French hot chocolate. Both were pretty darn good; the French hot chocolate was smooth and not overtly sweet like hot chocolates tend to be, with a fancy feel to it. There was something about its taste that is hard to describe but I certainly knew it was something of great quality.
The sandwich was .... good. There were some great quality ingredients on there (though the meatballs were a bit dried out or needed some kind of spice on them) and all of it worked dynamically. In fact, the onions used were red - red caramelised onions is something just divinely simple and tasty. All of it was on a fresh baguette. There was obviously no skimping on quality here.
This is above average for sandwich places and actually quite tempting as well. Many other items are there for sit-down meals. At first unassuming, this place really needs to actually be gone to to know why it works so well. I might actually go back here again.
Great cafe to stop by at the have breakfast or lunch with a slightly smaller yet great quality menu. Nice customer service and the food comes out quick. Pancakes were a little pricey and the burger was great all round. Would recommend coming here every so often if you can manage to find some parking in Oxford.
Fabulous brunch 10/10. Seriously love this place I can’t believe I have no been here before. There is something for everyone. This place is an absolute student haven. The food is absolutely EXCELLENT and is really well priced. My pancakes were absolutely delicious and only £7! my milkshake was made with real strawberrys and ice cream and was super super thick. Service was really fast and the guy was really sweet.
We ordered vegetarian english breakfast, I must say one of the best hashbrown in town! And my husband was amazed with their chai latte. Friendly owner and staff. Clean premise! And kids friendly. Most importantly, they are 100% halal, confirmed by the owner. I will definitely come again to bring my kids try their Angus beef burger 👍🏼
I came to Rick's Diner shortly before peak breakfast hours on a Sunday morning.
The diner itself is charming with plenty of natural wood and brick decor. The staff are friendly and the food is pretty good. Prices are decent. I would recommend Rick's for breakfast, overall.
The one downside to my visit is that I ordered eggs florentine and the eggs were prepared medium-boiled instead of poached (see photos). Overall, though, the taste was pretty nice even if the eggs were not runny at all.
If you have the chance, I'd recommend checking Rick's out.
Awesome breakfast stop. Nice and clean, well laid out interior and a good selection of food options on offer. We chose the pancakes and they were great. We found them really fresh and tasty. The coffee was a little weak for my taste but was still a great flavour.
There are QR codes on the tables so you can grab a seat and order contact free. The free wifi is an added bonus.
Such a lovely places, all the staff were very nice and the owner made a special mix of pancakes because I couldn’t decide which to pick! He also told a bit about the process and how he makes buttercream for the pancakes here himself. Definitely recommend to try pancakes here, they are so soft and the cream is just something😊💗
We had a grilled chicken wrap, chips, Oreo milkshake and this pear pancake stack.. wow! this food was absolutely out of this world! I will definitely be back. The staff were really friendly, and the atmosphere of the diner was great as well.
Just the best tasting cheeseburger I’ve had in a long time. Quick and friendly service in a traditional simple type diner. Highly recommend. Only slight improvement would be a few more tasty chips.
The food was really tasty and affordable. I went with a double cheeseburger and peanut butter milkshake. The woman behind the till was kind enough to recommend getting the meal deal as it worked out cheaper and came with fries. At the end the manager Sam came over to see how our meal was. The hand made burgers were excellent and so were the pancakes and eggs benedict. Would definitely recommend. 👍
Really good brunch. The burger was really good. They used just the right amount of sauce that let the taste of the burger still come out.
Would come back but would probably skip the milkshake.
Update:3rd October 2020
Lovely new menu, nice atmosphere and great breakfast and lunch options this time. The staff were all wearing masks which was great and one of the waiter stopped to tell us about coffee that they have and history of the roasters which was great! It feels quite crowded but they wipe the tables immediately after use and it was a very pleasant experience.
Rick’s diner was a lovely place for lunch :)! The mix and match fresh juice was really nice and portion if the food was good too!! I think having glass cups for water will be better than plastic but omelet was ok, probably will try something else for vegetarian option :)
Lovely dinner/cafe, very friendly staff, burger was halal and it tasted really good ! Went a couple time. The dirty chai was really nice.
Adl truly independent place. Good atmosphere, reasonable prices, diner food. Staff are friendly and welcoming too.
Quite simple THE BEST Burger and Milkshake I've ever had! Truly wonderful to see an independent cafe creating very quick fabulous fresh food. Thanks you Rick's and all its staff for making a little lunch into an incredible meal.
