Have had 2 very bad experiences at Bills in the past: one disastrous work Christmas party and one disastrous evening meal in which I ate the world's worst Mac and Cheese. I decided to brave the place for one more shot and it ended up being third time lucky!
This time we went for breakfast, stopping in at around 10:30am on a Monday morning. I expected the place to be empty, but was surprised to see a few tables of people enjoying coffee. The atmosphere was relaxed, pleasant and not too busy. So far so good.
I ordered a Bill's breakfast that included toast, sausage, beans, bacon, fried eggs and tomato. The portion size was slightly smaller than a usual English breakfast, but I actually found that it suited me more. If someone wanted something bigger, they could easily opt for extra sides to bulk it out. Sausages were Cumberland and very good! Toast was thick, and the fried eggs were cooked just right. The baked beans aren't the best, but I managed.
My friends ordered the blueberry pancakes, and I did have a little taste. It seemed like a nice size and included strawberry, banana and maple syrup. For anyone who prefers a sweeter American style breakfast, then the pancakes will please. You can also opt to add bacon. I have always found it tricky to find decent pancakes in Oxford, but I think Bill's just manages to hit the mark.
Third time lucky - would definitely consider going back for breakfast. There is a lot of choice on their breakfast menu and it's definitely a good place to go if you want a good range of English and American.
It seems Bill's new restaurant in Oxford was causing mixed reactions; some were saying it was great, some were saying style over substance, some were complaining that it was another chain... curiosity usually kills the cat, so I hear, but thankfully on this occasion, said cat was pretty sated. Tucked behind George Street on St Michael's Street and three doors away from Mission Burrito, Bill's is part retailer, part deli, part restaurant; offering everything from breakfast, lunch, dinner and cake, through to huge jars of artichokes, chutneys, cook books and canvas bags... so are they trying to be all things to all men? Quite possibly, but from what I could see, they were doing a decent job of it. The menus (arriving just before noon I had breakfast, lunch & specials menus to select from) had a good range of appealing dishes to choose from; then the retail/deli items were displayed on industrial shelving and listed in a separate pamphlet on your table, allowing you to choose items which
I was the first in on a cold Saturday morning.
Staff were friendly and attentive.
I ordered coffee and poached eggs with avocado on gluten free toast and it was absolutely delicious.
What a treat!!!
Thank you.
Very helpful and friendly staffs. Always ready to serve. The food is tasty and the price is reasonable. Just a reminder, A discretionary service charge of 10% will be added to your bill, you can opt not to pay for that. Do take a look at their dinner set menu, good value for money with a 2 courses or 3 courses meal to choose from.
Nice meal for light lunch, it won't be enough food for someone who need to eat more. The service was a bit long. And the dessert too sweat. But it was good and anyone can find something he will like.
The food tasted great. Service was a little slow. Reasonably priced.
Amazing place ! I had avocado and flatbread, chicken paillard is delicious and chocolate fondant. Staff is very friendly and Jess is lovely ! Highly recommend it
Great location, food. Professional staff, value for money. I'll be back
Beautiful vegetarian-friendly food, cosy atmosphere despite the considerable size of the building, and warm, attentive staff - we felt very welcomed and well-looked after at Bill's. Another gem on our winter tour around the UK - highly recommend!
Amazing food caters for everyone. Great service good portion size puddings were not as great slightly lacked on presentation. Staff lovely and restaurant vibe is really buzzy and fun

Great atmosphere and great food. Plenty of space.
However we got just plain tea for the order of earl grey even we complained the waitress that what we got wasn’t earl grey.
It's fantastic and has the best dessert that I ever ate in my life...a lemon pie...
Nice atmosphere, Good food and okay price. Would recommend it!
Everything was lovely. The breakfast we had was yummy as well.
Very nice, elegant atmosphere. Inventive drinks and food. A nice change from pub fare. They serve food late, unlike many of the pubs.
Very delicious Breakfast but it was very cold in the Restaurant. Nice and fast service force.
