Slices of beef heaven! Went with the wife and our two friends and everything that was served tasted amazing! There was a wait, but for what came to the table I would've waited even longer.

Ah-MAZING!!. This is truly a gem!! Amazing fresh food. They change the menu daily. Lovely drink options as well. I had the elderflower and prosecco fizz. Lunch melted in my mouth. The guinea was so tender and had a lovely sauce. Also had panna cotta with strawberries for dessert. We already made reservations for dinner tomorrow night.

I'll start by saying this was far from my first visit to The Magdalen Arms, on Iffley Road, nor shall it be my last - for The Magdalen Arms is walking distance from my house, and I am a huge fan. It's one of my favourite places to eat locally, but also one of my favourite places to take visiting friends and family. If you live in/around Oxford and haven't yet been... what the hell have you been doing? Open over three years now, The Magdalen Arms is popular for its warm and inviting vibe, but mostly for its simply glorious food. Most notably, they serve up stunning 'sharing' mains that will wow even the snobbiest of food connoisseur - think achingly slow roasted lamb, served with dauphinoise potatoes (drool), enough to feed 2/3 people and delivered to your table in its own cooking pot for you to carve up and serve from - truly marvellous. On this particular visit, MrFoodie, MiniFoodie, his parents and I were looking forward to a casual lunch before the in-laws headed home.  You never kn

Had dinner at The Magdalen Arms as my first time visiting the place. My friend booked in advance to make sure we would have a table for a Friday night dinner. To start, we have ordered the Spanish plate and then ordered more food. I ordered a main which was not very good, it was the roast beef but the sauce was not nice (I reckon if the sauce came on the side I would have appreciated the dish much more), also the anchovies were not appreciated within the group. The burrata was a good option though. The place is nice and even have some groceries to sell in the entrance (got some lavender myself). I will plan another day to try their lamb shoulder (which I regret not having) and might change my review on the food.

Held our wedding breakfast here. Staff and food exceptional. Would highly recommend eating here or having your own small gathering for a special occasion. Attention to detail, staff and food was outstanding and cannot thank all enough for helping to make our day so special.

Had a nice lamb neck roast dinner with sides. Lamb was juicy, falling apart and just lovely. The sides stole the show, we had dauphinoise gratin and it was amazing! Unfortunately, they only serve only for 3 people minimum but do offer a doggie bag. Serving size is huge - our doggie bag lasted for 2 meals. Better to reserve a table, then you can have a nice spot in their outside garden/space. Prices are reasonable 60£ for lamb roast for 3 meals

Wonderfully cosy pub that was packed with diners and drinkers on a Friday night. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating plus a few stools at the bar where there's also a telly. Nice range of lager and bitter at around the £5 mark per pint. Some bar snacks (sausage rolls and lamb mini-pasties) were on the bar for £2 each. The bar staff were busy but the waiting time was short. Card and cash accepted.

Really nice Sunday roast, we shared the Two-Way Mallard and it was super delicious. A huge portion as well. We had to wait around 30min to get our food so a perfectly reasonable time. It was very very busy.

Excellent gastro pub. Where punters are also welcome for a pint. Got the balance just right 👍. In fact I didn't drink any alcohol nor purchase any food, but still had a great chat with my friends who were digging into a pile of shellfish and playing boardgames 😊

When I searched for recommended spots for Sunday Roast, The Magdalen Arms popped up but we didn't have a chance to try since they only serve it on Sunday. The decor is authentic, classic and wide-spaced with lots of both indoor & outdoor seating. However, it's super popular in the neighborhood and we were lucky to get the last table for 2, (We visited right after they opened at 12pm.) so reservation is recommended. Their menu is a little different by each day. We had the Burratina & Figs and Saturday Special Roasted Lamb with pickles & baked potatoes. The food was amazingly delicious, especially the lamb, which was well-braised & tender and the portion was more than enough that we couldn’t even finish it all. Our only complaint would be the imperfect service. The staff told us the wait for the lamb was about 30 min, but it actually took us more than 1 hour to get our order. We wouldn’t recommend tourists like us to visit since it’s kind of far from the center of Oxford.

Went for a special night out and enjoyed the delicious food. The staff were great - a sign was out warning that they were short staffed and lots of new staff but they were doing a great job and we were well looked after. Bit noisy, but it's a pub so fair enough. Good choice of beers on tap and draught. Everything on our plates was delicious. Would recommend.

Welcoming and friendly staff. Great service with a traditional pub feel but amazing food. Focused menu with great flavours . The lamb was exceptional full of flavours and fell of the bone. Wide selection of wines at reasonable prices. Would recommend booking . I will be back

Went to this restaurant for a family dinner and didn’t regret it! The place is very cozy and reminds a medieval tavern with wooden tables and ceilings and very welcoming staff (+ a tray of mince pies right in front of the entrance). Our waiter was very cheerful, friendly and prompt and the dishes were AMAZING!! Home made focaccia was my personal highlight followed, of course, by the outstanding lamb…! You just have to order it when you visit this place. Overall, would definitely like to visit this wonderful gem of a restaurant again

What a fun place! Great atmosphere, great food, great people. We were in the UK on our honeymoon, and these crazy folks worked with our crazy family (on the phone, while we ate) to cover our meal, including a glass of fizz and sticky toffee pudding as a surprise. This was the only meal we planned in advance, and it was worth it. Thanks for a great night!

We had the whole lamb shoulder. It was delicious, something really special. This plus the pie fed a table of 7. We were all full and thoroughly enjoyed. I marked down one star because it took a while for drinks to come each round. They were busy. Definitely going back.

Superb gastropub - yes the menu is not extensive and it's a little quirky is that it's sharing food, but the flavours are incredible and portions generous. At first glance prices can seem a little high, but remember this is good restaurant quality fare, not average pub grub. We found the staff very friendly and helpful, and even had a visit from lollo the pub cat!

Food was absolutely delicious. Ordered the lamb shoulder and the meat fell off the bone. Beautifully cooked. Table service was very good too. But I was a bit disappointed with the drinks. Ordered aperol spritz and it came in a standard glass without all the trimmings. Not what you expect these days, especially given the price. Wife was similarly underwhelmed by her frozen margarita. Finally, I was told by the waiter they only had a baby changing table in the women's loos, which seems a bit behind the times.
