A winner hands down the Old Parsonage was recommended by a friend as a not to be missed luncheon venue on a trip to Oxford.
From the wooden Gothic entrance door with iron clamps to the cheery log fire that welcomes you and oodles of original art that leap out from the walls, the Old Parsonage wins on character a rare feat indeed.
We had an excellent risotto spinach soup outstanding lamb chops paired with Oxford sauce, the creme brulee and a rhubarb crumble.
The accompanying wine repertoire is vast.
A memorable visit.
The Old Parsonage is one of those quintessential English establishments. Very proper, very reserved, very good. The building itself has a great deal of character and the food is superbly prepared and presented. Afternoon tea is an excellent treat here and the desserts on the a la carte menu, although a tad on the pricey side, are also excellent. Recommend a visit.
I had high tea at the Old Parsonage Restaurant this summer with American friends that were visiting. It was delightful. The food offerings were very tasty, service was just okay, but overall an enjoyable meal. The atmosphere was very comfortable, the fire was burning (even though it was summer, it was quit cold outside) and the room tastefully decorated. A traditional elegant but comfortable feel versus the loud cold modern look and feel, that seems to be everywhere else in the UK.

Entering the Old Parsonage, you are first greeted by the rustic smell of the wood burning fireplace, providing the perfect setting for afternoon tea on autumn/wintery afternoons. The restaurant has a modern and classy, yet cosy feel to it, decorated with portraits. The outdoor seating also provides a pleasant setting amongst the finely kept plants. Staff are very polite, warm and friendly, quick to be at service, and pay fine attention to detail.
The Old Parsonage serves breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner, up until 11pm. My personal favourites are the scones at afternoon tea, with clotted cream and raspberry jam. The scones are the perfect size, one plain - one fruity, and aren't too dense or doughy. The Old Parsonage Blend tea is the perfect accompaniment. I usually order their chunky chips to add another dimension to the experience, and Elderflower Presse, which is served full of flavour with fresh mint leaves.
Being the dessert addict I am, my creme brûlée cravings have been consistently fulfilled at The Old Parsonage, sometimes late into the night. It is the finest creme brûlée in town, with the perfect sweetness and creamy texture, topped with a smooth layer of hard caramelised sugar that is great fun to crack into! There are variations on the crumble depending on the season, sometimes served with custard, or ice cream. The crumble is crunchy and the fruity base cooked to perfection.
If you've already had dinner, drop by for dessert - the staff are happy to welcome you even if you're just stopping by for a drink or dessert.

Had a lovely 3 course anniversary dinner here. Driving but the mocktails were delicious (can recommend the basil/pineapple one!). The coconut sorbet is so creamy and delicious full of toasted coconut and more than just ice which was a lovely surprise. The fishcakes are very rich and filling, seasoned well with tartare sauce with chopped (not blended) capers/shallots. These small details make the difference.
Also had the souffle and the scallop starters; the souffle wasn't quite to my personal taste (and I was expecting it to be in a ramekin) but the scallops were SO savoury and cooked very well (would highly recommend).
I didn't realise my fiance had written on the reservation that it was our anniversary and we got a surprise dessert plate with chocolate writing, which was also delicious.
A bit awkward to get to as no parking on site I believe (we walked in from the Seacourt park and ride but Westgate parking out of hours isn't too expensive and a bit closer). Would come again for a special dinner!
A great French (?) restaurant near Jericho, right outside Engineering Department of Oxford University.
The food is amazing!! They serve the bread warm and the butter is soft, melting on the bread - very nice!! The crab salad was great - highly recommend.
The service was good! We didn’t wait for long to order food or pay the bill. The waiters came to check in a few times during our meal.
The decoration and atmosphere is great too! Lots of art works and plenty space between tables, so we can enjoy our conversation.
Bookings are highly recommended. We booked the night before for Saturday dinner and they only got slots for 5:15pm or 8:30pm.
Really enjoyed the evening. Will come back!
On a dry day, the patio is a dream. An oasis of calm. There is an awning and a light bit of liquid English sunshine won’t ruin your meal. Service is excellent. There is a disabled entrance (not signed as such) but I have pushed a wheel chair through it. Inside it’s full of historical maps and a bit of Churchill history. It’s for me fascinating.
It’s expensive and definitely not for those on a budget. The food is very good but not spectacular. It’s a place for a special family event I would say unless your means stretch further than mine. Mains are typically around 30, starters around 11.
I reserved a table online and got confirmation in a few minutes. I didn't have a preallocated table, so the waiter allowed me to choose where I wanted to sit. Their menu was great; there were a lot of dishes that I liked on it. But I decided to go with the pork belly. It was well prepared and tasty. I enjoyed it. I had chocolate cake and macarons for dessert, and a single shot of espresso. I loved the experience and will possibly visit again. The ambience of the place was awesome.

This place is not that centrally located but easy to find. The setting is quite nice and they have outdoor seating as well. We had the pork cutlet which unfortunately was too salty and could not finish it. The sea trout was nice and is recommended.
Perfectly balanced starters immaculately presented, marvellous mains very tasty. I had an amazing experience, but just one thing I’d add is that the fish could’ve been more seasoned.

There were a number of places recommended to us by friends in Oxford, but we are very glad we ended up having lunch here. Both the food and the service were exceptional, even given this category of establishment. We expected more here and received it.
We had no booking, but they were able to fit us in and give us an exceptional meal and experience. We will definitely visit again, when in Oxford.
We had planned to lift a pint at Eagle and Child to Aslan and Bilbo, but given that location has been shuttered, this was a definite upgrade.
The Pisco Sour and Good Old Fashioned were both well crafted cocktails. With lunch, we had a pitcher of their house Pinot Grigio.
She had the halibut and it was quite good, but I have to say that my beef roast was the best roast I have had in the UK, since moving here five months ago.
The créme brûlée was correct and the quince crumble was quite good. We decided that we should have shared the crumble, but that is only because we are now so full.

Hands down the best Sunday roast I have ever eaten! It was even better than my Nan’s roast.

Came here as a surprise for my parents for an afternoon tea. I have noted about the allergies and special diet and they followed that really well. My parents enjoyed the afternoon and we all felt so full afterwards! The reason I put 4 stars was because it was a little pricey but it was amazing.
Had a high tea. Was a leaving treat from work colleagues. A real treat indeed. Loved the setting which was beautiful, elegant and relaxed. The scones in particular were amazing. Had coffee cake, macaroon and a crumble (I think) for cakes plus sandwiches. Coffee cake was my favourite out of the cakes.
We had a really lovely anniversary meal on the patio here. We were incredibly impressed with the food and the service, and happily surprised by what extensive measures the staff took to make us comfortable during covid (masks, distancing, and plastic screens inside.) The food was great, but the desserts were particularly excellent - we got the treacle tart and chocolate cake and both were sublime.
