What a location! The airport itself is a little sad, with the tender for the Cafe closing in June I hope that there is a return of got food and drink service soon - but this remains the only airport in the world with a beach runway - three of them! A once in a lifetime experience.

Tiny little terminal building literally on the beach (where the planes land). Everyone's really friendly from check-in to the ground staff offering to take photos with the little plane! The only downside is the closure of the apparently really nice cafe onsite.

This is now my favourite airport in the world. We were very lucky with the conditions but our take off and landing were both very smooth. And the location...? Gorgeous.

The most scenic airport in the world: Loganair Twin Otters (Viking 400s) land up to twice daily from Glasgow, on the sandy beach, configured into 3 bi-directional runways, each covered by the sea twice a day. Barra airport is owned and operated by HIAL, a Scottish Ministers' owned company. Excellent staff, excellent operation, beautiful place. What is not to like??

We were supposed to fly in last week, and back out again on Monday - all flights cancelled (thank you Brexiteers for that). Really disappointed but I just wanted to say that the staff at the airport were fantastic even though they had the horrendous job of arranging accommodation, refunds, travel, meals etc. for two lots of grumpy passengers in a row. Especially Rachel, who was brilliant and looked after everyone with a smile on her face. Hopefully I can get to fly to there in the future but for now I can only recommend the beach.

Apart from the uniqueness of this sole type of airport in the world. Every level of staff at Barra airport are Amazing. I had an injury ontop of an injury. Without requesting I was placed on the flight first with a stair lift. The pilot himself over saw my boarding. Check-in and security are so nice an welcoming. So easy going. All processes are a breeze. With the uniqueness ofcourse pictures were wanted and could be achieved, nipped out to the inner fencing to film the landing and still made it back to board with spare time. You can even buy a personalised landing certificate to prove you landed at this world. Only airport. Ofcourse you'd buy. Awesome airport.

Never ceases to amaze me to see the little plane land on a stunning beach. It's a 'must see' thing to do when on Barra.

Our return flight from Barra was cancelled twice due to visability. Dorlina, at check in, couldn't have been more helpful arranging accommodation, taxis and rebooking our flight. She dealt with irate passengers very calmly and efficiently.
