Thank you Golden Lion for a lovely lunch on 16 May! It was my birthday and we had been for a lovely walk with our friends and dogs! We then came to you for lunch and were really well looked after by a lovely lady called Lyndsay. The food was fabulous too and the whole atmosphere was fab. I would really recommend this place and will definitely be back!!
Great food, great staff. Cannot recommend enough One of my favourite places to eat and drink
A great pub and food. Good range of gin. Stayed in a twin room which was very nicely done. Modern and clean good colour scheme. Great breakfast and all staff very friendly. Thank you so much and hope to be back soon
Absolutely fabulous meals we had yesterday evening. Lovely well run pub with polite and obliging staff. Lovely atmosphere too...my first visit but it won’t be the last
Food was lovely and it had a nice atmosphere, staff were friendly, would definitely come again and would recommend it to friends and family
Today I had Sunday lunch at The Golden Lion. I had the Lamb and it was absolutely delicious. The meat was cooked to perfection and the meal was just the right portion size. The Roast potatoes and Yorkshire Pudding were mouth wateringly good. You're also given broccoli, green beans and red cabbage which were the perfect accompaniment to the meal. I was with family members who said that their beef was delicious as well. I had the Sunday lunch when The Golden Lion started doing them and they were nice then but now they are fabulous and I highly recommend that you try them. I would also add that the service from the friendly staff is second to none. Nothing is too much trouble. Well done Golden Lion. Will be back soon.
Amazing place!! Fantastic food and great staff!
Superb food in this lovely cosy pub, log burning fire friendly staff and real ales what more could you ask for.
Went in for a meal whilst we were staying at caravan site. Lovely welcome and gorgeous food. Dogs are welcome which maked a lot of difference. Had a lovely afternoon there.
Fantastic food. Loved the calves liver with red cabbage. A great atmosphere too.
A brilliant pub that combines a great blend of tremendous food, excellent real ales and a superb team. What a combination!
One of our favourite places to eat food and service always spot on
Lovely pub with fantastic food and such welcoming staff! Holidaying nearby with two 11 year old boys and our 4 month old puppy, we all spent 3 of our 5 evenings in this cosy little eatery, warming by the fire and enjoying a wide choice of meals to suit all appetites!
Fabulous!
We hadn't been for about a year, and we weren't disappointed. Just as good as we remembered. Great before a spot of clays at Thimbleby clay ground.
Out walking and 4 of us went in for a drink. Excellent service and the staff are brilliant. Well done!
Easily best pub in the village. Don't judge a book by it's cover. Looks quite tired on the outside, but inside lovely authentic country pub atmosphere. Friendly staff and a nice all round experience
The Golden Lion is the quintessential cosy gastro-pub. It serves excellent food is the most exquisite environment. I had the short rib — simply wonderful flavors. My wife had the duck —also great. We shared the jam rolly poly dessert. Highly recommended!!
Absolutely brilliant pub! Fantastic service by super friendly team, great drinks, lighting, atmosphere and really tasty food. Loved our evening there.
Best pub in the village by far. Well kept ale with local choices. Delicious food made by chefs that clearly know and care. Top quality without being wanky. Staff were wonderfully welcoming, attentive and friendly. Great atmosphere. Exceptional pub evening all round. Can't wait to come back!
Great pub with rooms. Friendly staff, great food and drink. Reasonably priced.
We had a lovely time here - a real rustic charm and atmosphere. Would highly recommend

Had a good pub meal here and there was a reasonable range of draught beer.
Friends fish looked a bit overcooked but everything else was well cooked and tasted good. Service was friendly and attentive.
Biggest caveat is the usual osmotherley access and parking.
Always great service and delicious food, plus a lovely relaxing atmosphere
Our favourite restaurant. Great atmosphere. Friendly staff. Good food. Lovely location and building. Mixed and varied new menu with options for those that need them.
Very nice pub a short walk away from where we were staying. The Sunday roast was excellent, the staff were helpful and gave a good service. Being a dog friendly place was also benefit. Worth a visit.
One of my favourite places. Have the salmon fishcakes.
Now they've got Jam Roly Poly, which I think we all agree is the king of desserts!
Just home from a week away at a beautiful Holiday at Home property in the village of Osmotherley in North Yorkshire, the icing on the cake was our visits to the Golden Lion a village pub and then some!!!
On our first visit which was just after opening the first thing we noticed is that nearly all tables were displaying reserved cards, in less than an hour the tables began to fill and not long after the pub was full of people placing orders for food, we were told that this is normal by the customers and staff alike, we quickly enquired if there was any availability for several days throughout our stay, fortunately we were in luck.
All I can say is the staff are fantastic, the beer is perfectly kept and the food is outstanding. I'd like to thank all the staff for making us feel welcome, and a massive thank you to James as he has looked after us so well on every visit.
All I can say to the people reading the reviews is if you are in the area call in and give it a go you won't be disappointed.
Attractive traditional pub, with well presented conremporary bedrooms. Great shower. Excellent evening meal and breakfast. Great for walkers as right on Cleveland Way.
Drove down from Whitley Bay to see family who were up from Dorset for a wedding.
Smashing little pub. Dog friendly. Amazing roast beef 😋
If we are in the area again , we'll be back 👍🏼
The food was excellent and the welcome was warm. We both had the beef bourguignon with cheddar mash and dumplings.
The dessert was also of a high quality. The staff were all very attentive. We will return! Would not hesitate to recommend.
Only afford to go once a week for a pint or two .London prices £10 for large glass of wine ,£5.20 a pint of beer. Candlelit tables atmosphere good, music good.
