I had the chicken supreme and was seriously impressed by the quality of the plump chicken breasts. The meat was tender and moist, complemented by a large roasted carrot as well as mashed potatoes made with leeks and Duckett’s Caerphilly cheese. The creamy sauce featuring wholegrain mustard went really well with the chicken and vegetables. We ordered a fresh mixed salad as a side order and it was big enough for both of us to share. The dessert menu was too tantalising to pass up and we were glad we didn’t! To say the desserts were spectacular is putting it mildly. They were almost too beautiful to eat!
We had the most delicious three course lunch here , what a find! The food is freshly prepared, cooked to order, so there is a bit of waiting, but oh my, is it worth it. We started with tempura vegetables and prawns, so light and crispy and utterly delicious. Then Thai style haddock with lemongrass, ginger and coriander, light and fragrant.
Our desserts were also wonderful, home prepared and a lovely end to the meal. We hope to return!
Food was good. Bit better than expected in little village pub. Seen other reviews but we thought portion size and price were about par for course. Atmosphere bit bland, could use some dressing up. Over 30 minutes wait for board specials of day seemed a bit long.
Food fantastic. Service was some of the best I have had in a while, so friendly and attentive. Highly recommend The Chequers
A nice local pub with friendly, accomodating staff and lots of space, indoors and outdoors. The menu includes some options that the kitchen are happy to make vegan, and they are delicious.
If you wanna go to a restaurant and have the most wonderful experience in your life, you need to go to Chequers of Orwell. The food is above Michelin star quality, surprises me it has no Michelin star yet. The chef David makes magic. I have always enjoyed this place and I go whenever I can. I recommend everybody visiting at least once because writing down is not even near the tasty experience. Ah and did I mention the dessert? The chocolate fondant is something unimaginable... the best dessert I ever had by far. The staff are always prompt to help and are courteous too. The only complaint is the lack of Chequers worldwide! I wish I could eat there everyday of my life.
Decided to stop here for lunch on our way to Wimpole estate. The food was alright for a country pub, definitely don't expect a Michelin level culinary experience though.
Visited Jun2021 after a 10 mile walk. Sat outside in a glorious evening sun. Beer kept well, good fresh taste to the real ale. Two course meal was excellent. Tempura battered haddock was cooked to the most exquisite perfection, chips done spot on. Cappucino brulée was luxurious, packed full of flavour and correctly sized. Chocolate fondant was sumptuous.
Encouragingly, the pub was relatively busy for a locked-down Wednesday night.
Came here for a quiz night, wonderful fun, great hosts. Great drink selection. Plus we won the quiz.
Lovely little local pub with tasty pub food plus a few oriental specials. Reasonable prices compared with places closer to 'rip-off Cambridge'. Good atmosphere, will be visiting again.
Delicious food, OK price. The food has some fusion elements to it (coconut/Asian spices in soup; kumquat with duck...). Great service, waiter very friendly and polite.
