Excellent food served by some of the nicest staff around. We just had a family meal for 22 of us and we all had a great time.

Superb !!!!! 6 of us ate and drank here Friday night and couldn't fault it. Service ace. Food ace. Atmosphere ace. No hint of tension. All good. If you have the pleasure of being served by Lewis then I promise you, you will be looked after by a young man that has total control. Just chill and let them look after you. Highly recommended 👌

Food is spot on. When it’s really busy you may have to wait a little while but it’s definitely worth the wait. Eaten there twice over the last two weeks and both times had great food. Catch of the day was spectacular. Roast beef Sunday lunch was outstanding. Staff were very friendly and very apologetic we had to wait to be seated. Well done guys

Nice pub within walking distance from Dovestones reservoir. It has a small carpark but we walked from the res after our walk. Lots of new picnic benches in the carpark and its dog friendly with a nice and varied menu. I had the peri peri chicken burger and it was delicious, others had steak and the cheese burger and had no complaints. Staff were helpful and friendly.

Great home cooked food, menu covers a broad range of dishes that allow for choice regardless of taste. Genuinely welcoming to both humans and well behaved dogs, it's refreshing to be able to relax and have something to eat without worrying we'll inadvertently break an unspoken canine rule or be sat in isolation. Efficient service delivered by friendly and helpful staff. What's not to love?

Great service, the young staff members were, friendly, helpful and professional. The atmosphere was good, lots of families enjoying Father’s Day, the music was a touch to loud. The Sunday lunch was packed full of meat and veg. The beef was a little over cooked and the parsnip uncooked therefore I’d give the food 4 out of 5 the gravy tasted a little too salty and in my option would be better in a separate jug to pour on yourself accordingly. The staff were great and I’d give them a 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thank you for an enjoyable meal😀👍

Just had the light lunch of fish chips and peas. Service was very prompt and the young waitress excellent. Arrived at opening time 12p.m. and already plenty of people sat at tables. Having said that we were served very quickly and returned 2 empty plates. Would highly recommend.

What a cracking place. Our party of 4 adults and 1 child popped in on Tuesday lunch time. Worryingly, the place was almost empty which isn't usually a good sign. However, first impressions were otherwise good - the pub has been lovingly refurbished and has a fantastic roaring fire which makes for a nice welcome. We were each offered a copy of the full menu, and a small chalk board was placed on our table with the children's set menu listed on it. Posted on the wall was a larger chalk board which listed the excellent value lunch menu - 1 course for £6.95, 2 for £8.95 and 3 for £10.95. From the pub's Facebook page, it appears that this menu seems to change on a weekly basis which makes a change from most of the local pub/ restaurants. Being hungry/ greedy three of us opted for three courses. Starters were a tandoori lamb kebab and a bowl of broccoli and blue cheese soup off the lunch menu. The others in the party opted for a side of onion rings as a starter (amazing, by the way!!) and the garlic mushrooms on sourdough. All of these were fantastic and not a scrap of salad leaf was left. When it came to the mains we went for two cheese and onion pies and the chicken breast in a diane sauce off the lunch menu. Then there were two fish and chips ordered - one off the children's menu, the other off the a la carte menu. The pub helpfully obliged when my picky child requested fries instead of chips, and a picky adult asked for mushy peas instead of beans with their pie. It was remarked that the cheese and onion pie was a taste sensation! When it came to pudding, I decided that I couldn't take anymore, but others had more stamina than I and ploughed on. And so it was that we came to uncover the Clarence's pièce de résistance. Two of us went for a third course from the lunch menu. The biscoff cheesecake. The ohhhhhing and ahhhing from across the table over these slithers of cake was almost unbearable. "The best cheesecake they'd ever had" was the verdict. Served with an individual pot of pouring cake and summer berries, these little treats would have made the visit worth it on there own. My son went for the brownie off the kid's menu - this too was proper pud. No messing about here - a giant wedge of warm gooey cake with a melting stew of chocolate sauce poured over the top with an obligatory ball of vanilla ice cream. Finally, rounding off the set-piece there was an apple crumble. By the time we finished, the pub had accumulated a few more customers, but it's clear that the Clarence's fame has yet to spread far and wide as it is deserving of a much wider audience. And as for the biscoff cheesecake....well, I had to take a slice home in a (provided) tupperware tray to savour for myself...

Great sunday roast after a big walk at dovestone. We had the cheese and onion pie which was delicious. Quite probably one of the best I've had (I'm a veggie so it's always the option haha) we were sat at table 10 served by Izzy who was great. Polite, hospitable, knowledgeable about the food and also did a 'check back' (which is something I often find missing in restaurants at the moment but in my opinion really makes a difference). Would recommend recommend got the hungry hiker!
