We travel far to visit and always have a wonderful evening in here when visiting the village carnival. Always a lovely atmosphere, real ciders, and ales on tap. Have been before and will return again. A great live trio there this time who sang lovely sing a long music for everyone to enjoy..

A proper pub! Apparently also unofficially the oldest pub in the UK, there is a stone column in the middle of the pub which can be dated back to 5000 BC. More importantly, a good selection of beer and a great beer garden out the back with views towards Dartmoor. We didn't stay for food but the smells coming from the kitchen suggested it would have been delicious. Will be coming back!

Had a Sunday lunch here this week, they catered for the 10 of us very well. The food was excellent with special mention due to the pork crackling, which was the best that I have had in a restaurant for a very long time. The service was also very good, with all of us being served in short order. Well worth a visit as not only good food but also a historic building. We will be going back.

We have stayed a number of times at The Ox. It is truly a special property. The history just oozes from everywhere. We have stayed in most of the rooms and they are all special. Mainly four poster beds and beautiful fabrics. But The Ox is more that the building. The owners Lyn and Simon are so welcoming and friendly. John behind the bar is very funny, be prepared to have your leg pulled, however if you ask about walking suggestions he will give you some good ideas. It does say something for a property if they retain their staff and there are other familiar faces too. This holiday has been different in that we had an unexpected hospitalisation to deal with. Having their calm reassurance that we need not worry about the room was what we needed. I have forgotten to mention the delicious food. My favourite starter Twice Baked Cheese Soufflé! I’ve never met the chef but I must say he or she does a great job too! Can’t wait to return another time but without the trauma this time! Thank you Lyn and Simon for your kindness.

We absolutely enjoyed our experience at this wonderful hotel. The room, complete with a four poster bed, bathtub with a wonderful shower and other interesting decor added to this unique experience. The meals were extremely tasty, great offering of Gluten and Dairy free options too. JD(John) was very welcoming, informative, great stories and questions too! Unfortunately we only had one night there!

A lovely historic pub with amazing food and great service. Special shout out to the staff who gave us a short history tour of the inn, and even threw in some magic for good measure. Well recommended if you're ever in the area!

This is a special place. You do pay a little more but its well worth it for the experience. Fantastic garden at the back, lots of seating and wonderful views. Staff are super helpful and friendly, this is our new fave place to visit when on North East Dartmoor. The history attached to this beautiful building is amazing especially the ancient menhirs in the restaurant area.

Just stopped in for a lunch. Amazing place, amazing food, amazing people and a menhir. Although when my wife said she wanted to "touch the menhir" it didn't sound right.

We went to dinner here two night in a row as the food, atmosphere and service were beyond exceptional! Lauren and Fran served us through the night and we had a great laugh with both of them. The meals on both nights were delicious with exciting details and the portion sizes were perfect. Our suggestions include the sea bream fillet, the pork belly and the mushroom gnocchi. Thank you to Lauren and Fran for being so welcoming and great fun!

What a lovely B&B, this is steeped in history, we had such a pleasant stay, it was last minute and we didn't intend on staying so booked via telephone last minute due to the fuel protests along our route to Cornwall. Lovely staff and rooms, our room had a massive bed and we certainly were not disappointed, the rooms were quite clean considering they have white carpet, overall very impressed. Wheelchair users or folks that struggle with stairs this B&B has a few steps and stairs in to the building so perhaps something to consider, nothing more than your usual residential house mind. One small observation was the breakfast was quite small, we weren't sure if we could ask for more items and felt very awkward approaching the host, we wanted some more tea, toast and eggs, perhaps if the host were to say something like, ' if you require anymore toast or tea just ask ', that would stop waste and also ensure customers left with full tummies. Overall a lovely experience and our next trip to Cornwall we will most definitely be stopping here on the way now.

I mean how many times have you stayed at an 800 year old building or dine in the same place that Lord Nelson Charles Dickens ate it. A really amazing place. Stayed here for three days with my family. We staying in the Chagford room. Bed was comfy and room was quite big and spacious. Breakfast/dinner- you have to fill out a paper of what you want and the time so the next morning when you come for breakfast (which is downstairs where the pub is) they will already be bringing it out to you. We also stayed for dinner one of the night and it was great. Both dinner and breakfast were really good. I'd make reservations for dinner as it does seem to get busy. All in all I'd highly recommend staying here. If you want the experience of staying outside of a city in an English little town, this is it. Thanks to the owners and staff for making it great.

Excellent Sunday lunch was had here today. On arrival we were greeted by a friendly gentleman behind the bar and shown to our table in the snug room which was extremely cosy and a wonderful place for the four of us to chat, drink and eat in a sedate environment. The Roast Beef, Roast Pork and Nut Roast were all consumed very satisfyingly. We will sure to be back to try other items on the menu with the hope to have room for one of the delightful looking desserts
