Brilliant place, great variety of food and love the sharing aspect. Lovely atmosphere and friendly service. A perfect addition to the local eateries, we will definitely be regulars!!
My friend and I dined on Easter Sunday evening. The food was delicious, the drinks were lovely and the service was fantastic. Hope to come again soon! :)
This is a nice, surprising find in Oban. It's Lebanese style food with a twist, using local produce where possible. We enjoyed all the food we had and it felt healthy and light. The service was patchy but friendly. We had three small plates shared between four of us and one large plate each which worked out about right. We then shared a pudding each been two. The puddings were really special with a good range and all very unusual. We really enjoyed the two we tried.
Tl;dr food so good I almost cried
My tour company recommended coast for dinner but it was booked for the night which I’m so glad because I ended up at Baab and it was better than anything else I could have found in Oban. No offense to Scottish taste, but I was not in the mood for another burger or meat pie.
I got the salmon, was perfectly moist and encrusted with panko and the zaatar seasoning. It was NOT spicy unlike the description. It came with a lovely but light salad bed of radish and radicchio so I recommend ordering a starter. Might I recommend the baba ganoush (eggplant dip with flatbread)? It was smoky and garlicy and complex. For dessert I had the rice pudding, which was light and tasted like pistachios and rose water (in a good way). Not to toot my own horn but I’m a worldly eater and this meal was some of the best I’ve tasted - I almost cried.
The design was pretty with lots of teal accents - super aesthetic.
I recommend making reservations but they were able to seat 1 at 6pm on a Wednesday.
Wonderful sharing food, served on nicely decorated plates. Atmosphere of the place is very nice.
Great food and atmosphere. Professional service. It was a little pricey, but that's to be expected in a tourist area. Our meals were fresh and well prepared. Delicious!
I had a fantastic meal at baab. It was a surprise to find such a great restaurant in Oban and not in Glasgow or Edinburgh. I had 2 courses plus wine, the bill could have been less but I was greedy and ordered a few side plates. I had a great view of the harbour and the setting was relaxing.
We had a good meal here in this restaurant located in the bottom floor of a hotel. Service was prompt, and the food was pretty good. They suggest you order some small plates (we ordered hummus and a salad) and a main (I ordered lamb kababs and my wife ordered chicken shish). All were good!
Fantastic restaurant with really good vegetarian options (the middle-eastern inspired tofu skewers were delicious!). The setting and atmosphere was lovely, too, for a date night. The service was a little to be desired but otherwise we couldn't complain.
Brilliant restaurant. Throughly enjoyed our evening meal here. Nice spacious environment and friendly attentive staff.
Plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. The moussaka and mussakhan (both vegan) were fantastic. Good cocktails from the bar outside of the main restaurant.
The place offer quality flavors and food 😊
A change from the standard seafood restaurant in Oban.
Offering a great choice of food in the Mediterranean style of small and large plates. It is good to pick a few of each to share and sample.
The lamb main was so good I had to order another.
The restaurant has nice decor, relaxing and well spaced out tables.
Really enjoyed our meal here and would go again.
I was hesitant to try Baab after reading mixed reviews. Here's my take on it- this is a top notch restaurant recovering from the Covid downturn with still the occasional blip. My experience was excellent, with great customer service and delicious food quickly served at great prices.
The other thing I noted was a frequent number of people complaining online about slow service, here and at other restaurants. I think many foreign tourists to Europe expect American style dining, whereas restaurants like Baab provide a European experience that is slower and more luxurious. It can be a bit tedious, but when in Rome, lean into it and enjoy it.
I will also add that Baab is a Mediterranean restaurant in the Scottish highlands- not an expected occurrence. After three weeks of heavy pub food or fine European style multi course dining, we enjoyed the change of pace at Baab, both in the change of ingredients, flavors, and pace of the meal. But we went into it with expectations of a slower pace, and were pleased when it was not slow, and when the flavors were well done.
We recommend Baab- especially if you are ready for a change from typical Scottish fare.
Lovely meal, great staff.
Absolutely fantastic place. Food was incredible and matched with the quality of service, its been a while since I could say that! The chicken shish kebab was probably my favourite but everything we ate was cooked to perfection.Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Oban to try out.
Beautifully presented, perfectly cooked fare in a relaxed, comfortable environment with attentive, knowledgeable service. Compliments to the entire team.
Fantastic and affordable place in comparison to other restaurants nearby - if you're looking for a nice dining experience with friendly staff and great food then I'd definitely recommend. Most memorable part of the meal for me was the mussels, you can taste how fresh they are and the sauce/seasoning was so refreshing compared to the usual garlic and white wine. We were also fortunate enough to go on the 5th November exactly when the fireworks was on so we got a view of that with our meal.
