My husband and I really enjoyed our experience. Great food and lovely service! The black salmon starter has to be one of the best I’ve had in a while and the cocktails go down a treat, I’d have to say the best cocktails around. We will hopefully be returning soon.

We came here as a group of five and were greeted by very welcoming staff. They had a rather small limited Sunday menu when we arrived but there was still enough of a selection to pick dishes that we all liked. We were recommended the goats cheese as a starter and it didn't disappoint. It was served with a chilli ice cream of all things. At first you wouldn't think it will go, but it worked really well with the dish. It was definitely the favourite dish on our table. And that was just a taster of things to come as it was clear from the rest of our meal that they were really trying to be creative with what they serving. For mains, the roast pork was generously portioned. The sea trout dish was also well cooked, but the gnocci and sauce it was served with was lacking a little flavour. For dessert, they had the classic staples like a chocolate brownie and sticky toffee pudding - and they didn't disappoint. But they also had some quite creative desserts like the orange and passion fruit cheesecake. This was served with a dry powder, which, when it heats up in your mouth, it turns into white chocolate. It sounds strange but again, it worked well and I haven't seen anything like that before so it was a nice experience. I don't believe the restaurant has been open for long so it was great to see the waiters eager for feedback to improve on what was already very good service and good food. I'm looking forward to visiting again, hopefully on a different day so I can try some of their other dishes that weren't available on their Sunday menu.

Absolutely amazing evening at the Dovetail. Food was fantastic- taste and presentation. Service was excellent. Celebrating an anniversary tonight and couldn’t have had a better experience.

Wonderful Sunday lunch, two courses for £25. Great service again and the food was well presented and quality exceptional. Comprehensive wine list. Highly recommended.

I have had a couple of meals at The Dovetail. One for an anniversary and the other for a major birthday milestone. Both times I found the staff to be charming, the cocktails well made, and the food to be delicious and very good value. I was also impressed by the degree of vegan and gluten free options. Keep up the good work!

The staff is absolutely the best, food delicious (we had pork belly and roast dinners)super tasty to 3 Michelin stars , reasonable prices. Definitely recommend to anyone passing by or local enough to walk and have a espresso martini and walk back home for nap afterwards. My friend had the best birthday treat!

My friend and I went for lunch for her birthday on Saturday, we had the best afternoon in the Dovetail, the food was outstanding along with the service. I would highly recommend paying Paul and his team a visit in very nicely done out restaurant and bar. Thank you for making our afternoon special.

Wow…… visit from Bournemouth and the cocktails were fantastic especially the strawberry Daiquiri and French Martini 😃 I have strawberry Daiquiri from all over the world and this is the best one I have tasted. Fabulous Service from all the staff and the food all I can say is WOW 😃 thank you

We had two pizzas with side salad followed by creme brulee and chocolate delice. All nicely prepared and presented and reasonably priced. Also a free glass of prosecco!

I wish I was a food critic for the Times or another well known company, The Dovetail far exceeded my expectations and that of my husband who is not easily satisfied! I booked the Dovetail in a sheer panic as I had forgotten our wedding anniversary! I walked into Oakham and walked passed the Dovetail which used to be the Wildwood Kitchen, I dropped in and in a panic booked for 7pm that evening.. I’m so glad I did, from the moment we arrived we were spoilt rotten, we ordered drinks at the lovely bar and sat in the oval roofed cubby, very romantic.. the staff were extremely attentive and after a couple of drinks the maitre Dee brought us a bottle of pink Prosecco on the house for our anniversary along with olive bread and the most amazing butter with spring onion, tomato and olives in it, Wow what amazing service. We were shown to,our table after ordering the 2.5 hour duck egg for starters and the aged sirloin steak with chips and lamb loin with goats cheese dauphinois and spring vegetables for main course. Wow what can I say, firstly I’ve never had duck egg and boy was I impressed, the duck egg was laid on a Stornaway black pudding with hollandaise sauce and was amazing, the maitre Dee explained how it was cooked and for how long at what temperature, he really knew his stuff, it was a pleasure to listen to.. next came the steak and lamb dishes which we paired with a Chilean merlot (beautiful) the steak melted in the mouth and coupled with the pea purée was absolutely stunning, we both said we have never had a steak in this country ever that was that amazing.. the lamb was cooked to perfection, the spring vegetables were al dente and perfect. My faux pas of not remembering our anniversary was saved implicitly by The Dovetail and the amazing staff and chef of the Dovetail, I defy anyone to not enjoy a meal there and we will definitely be going back. Thank you to all the wonderful staff for saving my bacon and the chef for the amazing cuisine.

Only stopped in for a drink but the staff hospitality made me wish we had booked for dinner! Thanks all I'm a fan of that Bumbu Rum. Beautiful building to top it off. Cheers!

Brilliant lunch meant that we returned for brunch the next day. Excellent service and high quality food. Also catered for our pram and babies really well.
