This is a lovely Pub/restaurant. The decor is nice, the staff are very friendly and helpful. The food is very good for the price. I had the large cod with chips and peas and my partner had the waffle Chicken. Both of us tried each others and neither of us had any complaints. The chicken was tender and moist, the fish was nicely cooked in a light crispy batter. My partner had a desert, (Caramac apple crumble) which she said was very good. Drinks are reasonably priced. Well worth a visit if you are in the area. We will be back to try the Sunday lunch, and I'm sure we will have a few more meals at lunch and in the evenings.

Second time I've been here....last time was over 4 years ago ....still a good place for food! Nice menu ... especially if you're a fan of fish. Good service, decent prices and a nice garden for summer days out back.

Since the remodelling from a pub into a restaurant and chip shop, I have been to The Thorn Tree a number of times. The service is always good, even when the place is packed. The food is well cooked, and nicely presented. Prices are very reasonable, and the menu has a good variety. Over the course of several years I have found the food to be consistently good. I tend towards fish and chips, and whilst many people think this is a simple dish, it is quite difficult to find places that serve really good fish and chips. Many is the time that I have had fish in other restaurants or from chip shops, only to find everything swimming in a puddle of oil. To date, I have never had this happen when eating at The Thorn Tree. The fish has always come to the table piping hot, with light and fluffy fish-meat, and either a crisp batter, or a nice golden brown breadcrumb coating. There is plenty of comfortable seating inside, with prompt and polite table service. There is also seating outside, for when the weather is agreeable. There is a raised, decked area just outside the restaurant for eating, and also a garden with benches that are great for sitting and having a casual drink with family or friends. I really enjoy eating here, and will continue to bring my family here for treats, and special occasions.

Always amazing food. Fish, chips & mushy peas were perfect. Husband also had the "Bhagi battered onion rings". Said they wrre beautiful but be warned, you get 6 and they are huge. Maybe be better to share a portion. Always a great selection of craft/real ales.

Always fantastic food and service. Friendly staff but without being too obtrusive. Tasteful decor with plenty of places to sit including a conservatory . Excellent views across Amber Valley. Cannot fault.

The usual stop at the chip shop at the pub for fish chips and mushy peas and it did not disappoint. I really do think they have the best battered fish I have ever tasted. And sitting in the car sun shining lovely view over a field and woods and a cute little squirrel having playtime as well as gathering treats who could ask for more.

Menu is very limited and not recommended for vegans and vegetarians. Most of the options are fish and chips, but they do meat pies, curries, steaks and burgers. But there's not many to pick from and you may struggle to find something that you like. The staff were friendly polite and helpful. Food was nice and tasty except would of been nice if the beef burger option hinted spicy, as alot of people who eat beef burgers eat beef for the lack of spice, and like the bland taste.

Best fish and chips in the area. This is our Friday night treat and we're never disappointed. The fish is all sustainability sourced and the veg local. Portion sizes are large, fish is not greasy at all. The pub is also dog friendly and it's lovely to be able to have a meal or a drink if I'm out with the dog. It can get very busy so booking is recommended. The take away is always great too, though wished it opened later than 9pm. Then pub and take away are under new ownership, but the quality is still the same. Glad that it remains as fantastic as it always has.

We only went in the fish and chips takeaway bit and it smelled amazing we took our food home and it was delicious! Offers to give us cutlery but we were going straight home! Staff are lovely. Nice and clean and fresh!
