Reviews The Cods Scallops

First time visiting, hopefully not the last. Now, let me start by saying, I know my fish and chips, I've travelled the length and bredth of the UK in the hunt for a good fish supper, having tried places like murgatroyds (imho the best fish and chips) and places like the rock down in Devon and Torquay, the Cods Scallops is a more local affair. Me and my wife visited the other day for some afternoon grub, to be greeted by a lovely looking restaurant with really nice sea related decor and such, we were excited by what was on offer. I personally had the Cod Kebab, which was an original and tasty dish, my wife had the fish pie. Now let me say, the fish, was top tier, a nicely sized fillet that was flaky and meaty, which is always a good thing when it comes to fish, I didn't realise that it wasn't a battered fillet which I assume is down to taste as the kebab is marinaded in a BBQ rub, however I got a side of scraps by asking which elevated the dish. My wife's pie was brimming with fish, prawns, salmon and haddock and the mash was cheesy and gooey, she said it was really good, however what I will say is, the only thing that lets it down, believe it or not is the chips! I've always been a fan of chips that are more cooked, softer to bite with a delicate crunch, however the chips here unfortunately were very subpar, they were very pale and hard, which really.didnt make them stand out at all, they were very bland even when doused in salt and vinegar. The staff on the other hand were very helpful, friendly and attentive and nothing was too much to ask (free scraps!!!!) they also do a loyalty stamp card which is great. I will probably return again, I only hope feedback is taken onboard about the chips, maybe get a staff tasting to try them and have a play with the ratio so they taste better in future. If you're in Nottingham or around, still a worthy shout and they have a lovely dine in area and some unique dishes too. 4***

This restaurant claims to be award winning and I can confirm this! My partner and I have been here several times now when staying in Nottingham and it’s a golden gem if you love fish and chips! My partner always opts for the sausage and chips as she’s not a fan of fish and she absolutely loves it! I always go for the cod and chips and the fish is perfectly battered, the fish is thick and flakey and the chips are divine! The ice cream is to die for if you have a sweet tooth or love your ice creams and deserts. I could not recommend this place enough! Honestly, the staff are lovely, the decor is lovely and rather quirky and cool! Show this amazing chippie some love because it really is the best.

Delicious, by far the best fish and chips I’ve ever had in the UK. No seating available in the shop anyway. Not expensive, big portion.

We took our grandchildren for lunch over half term. They loved it, and so did we. The best fish and chips I've had in a long time. The children's portions were generous, and the chicken nuggets were chicken breast meat.

Fish was really tasty and very filling. Excellent menu with a range of items to choose from including drinks. The restaurants own 'Scale Ale' was a great along side the fish. It was not busy when we went with plenty of tables. Staff serving were very friendly and attentive, checking back that everything was OK after receiving the food. Good attention to detail with restaurant theme from lobster pot lights to octopus wine bucket. Just adds to the experience of eating there. Just been for another excellent meal there.

This place has got some really tasty fosh and chips. We tried the cod fosh and the monk fish. The monk wish was a win for sure. Oyster were amazing. And the scallops with the dip were really good. We were a little disappointed since they were out of king prawns but were all compensated with the amazing fish and oysters we had. Service is good. Must try place in Nottingham.

Hands down THE BEST fish and chip shop i think ive ever been to. Insanely good! Had scallops and oysters. Spot on! Especially the scallops. Not overcooked at all like a lot of places. Also had hot sticky toffee pudding. Totally recommend.

Lovely early lunch with the family. The food was delicious although the large cod wasn't really of a size that warranted the price tag. That aside, no complaints, the staff we're attentive and friendly, I'd probably return. Btw the curry sauce was 👌🏽

Have been meaning to visit here for a long time so happy to say it was worth the wait! The restaurant is nice and light and really clean and tidy, quality sea themed decor throughout but not cheesy, I like it. Our waitress welcomed us in and to the table, she was friendly and helpful throughout our visit. The food was excellent, really see why this place won the UK fish and chip shop award, just on another level. I had the lunchtime special and the black pudding fritter, wow, I thought I'd not ordered enough when it arrived but it's plenty of food for sure. They've got a few ales in bottles but would be nice if they had some decent beer, even if it was just a peroni or something. Loved it, highly recommended.

One of the best fish and chips in the UK. The portions aren’t that large but the ingredients were clearly high quality. Fish was so fresh and tender. Chips were buttery, flavoursome, crispy. I like that fish and chips comes with tartare sauce and lemon wedge.

I was working nearby and colleagues recommended this place for lunch. It was some of the most delicious fish n chips I’ve had in a very long time. I had the fish taco which came with great chips. The fish was amazing and I loved the crunchy, fresh salad that came with it too. Service was great. 100% recommend!

Fish and chips: It's undoubtedly the best fish and chips I have ever tasted. The fish is crispy on the outside with fresh and juicy flesh on the inside. It is mouthwatering to even think about it. I would never missed this restaurant during my visit in Nottingham. The portion of the chips are a lot. You may want to consider ordering the fish a la carte if you're not that into chips.
