Norwich….where are yooooouuuuu???!!
Tonight was our second visit in a short space of time, after a long, long time since eating here. New management has brought this institution back to its former glory.
The burgers are fantastic. Good, honest burgers - not hipster, messy burgers - but something that has a feel of how things used to be…..not messed about with but super tasty. Onions rings are great, homemade (not frozen muck) the same with the great homemade coleslaw.
I have seen some moans about the portions being small - they are perfectly adequate for burger and chips - I fear we’re all becoming greedy guts’ with ridiculous expectations of the amount of food served. Who needs a gigantic mountain of fries?!
The service was equally great - friendly, efficient, all you could ask for.
Also, they serve Brooklyn lager on tap - I’m not sure where else in Norwich you get that nowadays but it’s worth the visit alone in my book. If that doesn’t tickle your fancy, there’s a great (reasonably priced) cocktail list!.
I just don’t get why more people aren’t visiting. Get your bum down there.
A great little find for some dirty burgers!
Smallish venue serving burgers, hot dogs and other dirty treats. Great atmosphere and staff that couldn’t do more to help if they tried
Food was delicious and good value, cooked fresh to order
Would recommend a visit if this is your sort of thing
Great place to eat. Really good food and if you are in the window, a nice people watching place to watch the world go by.
Be aware of the steps to get up to the restaurant, its an old building with quite steep steps, I just took my time with them!
My club sandwich was delicious and my husband enjoyed his burger.
Very reasonably priced for today's current market, so worth a visit without breaking the bank, even with an alcoholic drink each.
Just one star knocked off as the tables were super sticky, I think it's where the varnish gets tacky after cleaning. Otherwise it was a nice experience and I would visit again.
Trip into Norwich and had to go back to Captain A's. Last came in 2019 but we have been before that. This time didn't disappoint. Service was really good, food great (very filling BLT) and milkshake was brilliant. Yes,decor has changed but still holds some original charm. Will be back!
Fantastic place! The drinks are amazing, the bar knows what they're doing, and the food is incredible. Quite possibly the best hot dog I've had this side of the Atlantic!
Came in for a meal by myself whilst killing some time, had walked past many many times, but had never been in before. Staff were welcoming and friendly and it was clearly a small business because of the intimate layout.
Food was hot, well priced, and the Thor burger I ordered tasty and didn't fall apart in my hands. It was also a proper burger unlike Zak's that gets served open with the bottom bun soaked in sauce.
All in all a nice meal, and will when the next opportunity arises go back to try the other items on the menu.
Came here for dinner with my partner and it was exactly what we needed after a long day of shopping and site seeing. Our server Sophia was lovely and couldn't ask for a better host. Super friendly and knew the menu inside and out when I had questions. For starters I had the BBQ wings and my partner had the blooming onion, both were done perfectly. For mains I had the Captain America cheeseburger and my partner had the dirty rooster chicken burger with cheese. Both were amazing and really put you in a good place, full but not bloated. The quality was excellent and you could tell that everything was made fresh - the fries were especially good in my opinion. All of this was reasonably priced considering we had the above and two drinks each and a side as well. Would highly recommend visiting and whilst a lot of other reviews on here complain about it "not being what it used to be" etc. I think with a few more memorabilia items on the walls and the music a little louder it's a great place to spend the evening. We will definitely be coming back to visit in the future.
The staff were very accommodating and friendly.
Wait times for food a little longer than expected, but staff did apologise for this.
Food was mixed overall. Good portion sizes! Chicken burger was fantastic! But the chicken strips were incredibly salty. I couldn't finish them due to this.

2nd time we've visited and both times have been phenomenal, staff are incredibly attentive and helpful and the food is always spot on, good decor inside and out. All in all, it's definitely worth a visit!
Have been going here since the 70s. It has changed hands a couple of times and has recently had a refurb but still great burgers and cocktails
Great, possibly the best Authentic Burger bar in Norwich, going since the 70s and still a good place for burgers etc. Also very nice cocktails and fantastic service.
Such a great experience from start to finish! It was our first time here, and definitely won’t be our last! The food was absolutely delicious, and generous portions too!
The service was impeccable, very attentive, friendly, polite and never kept us waiting!
The server made an error with our order but it was promptly corrected and they went above and beyond to make sure it was put right. Outstanding service from both waitresses!
We will definitely be coming back soon!
One of the best burgers in Norwich!
Food was very nice, very filling. Maple milkshake was extremely nice. Decor was traditionally America, was expecting more captain America comic themes. Our waitress was quiet and didn't appear all that cheerful but fulfilled all requests fine. We were the only ones in the restaurant which was at 5.30 on a Thursday. Music in restaurant didn't a fit the theme but again, very minor issue. Overall food and environment was pleasant.
