We went for lunch yesterday, lovely meal enjoyed by all of us great atmosphere and friendly staff, will definitely recommend
Red Lion was highly recommended by a friend and didn't disappoint !! We turned up with 5 mins to spare to end of service but received a friendly welcome and the food was top draw. They even lent us an ordenance survey map to find the Thames path. Great experience we'll be back for sure
Lovely food ( not the cheapest around) but well worth it, the ambience of the pub was gorgeous, all the nice homely touches of fresh flowers around which brought Spring time from outside to inside on a particularly cold and dreary day. The service was impeccable, the welcome was warm and inviting, just like the gorgeous log fire, we will return
Lovely, friendly community pub serving excellent food. As has been said by others, it's not the cheapest, but the food is great and well worth the money.
Great food great staff and hosts. Perfect setting. Even coped with our border terrier straining at the lead to "greet" the resident chickens.
Lovely setting, great food and great service. We were made very welcome.
great service, fantastic food, much of which is grown in their own garden! A lovely village pub, owned but he community and always guaranteed of a warm welcome. well worth a visit!
Food excellent lovely cosy village pub food is always great x
The Red Lion is owned by the Community of Northmoor. It is just the right size and very well run by Lisa and Ian. The atmosphere is friendly and the beer and food is as good as you can get. Best to book - it is not always busy but it does not take many foursomes to fill it up so a phone call is worth it.
We loved it at The Red Lion, loved the community vibe. Great place, food was interesting and had flare. I especially was in love with the beautiful gardens and my children enjoyed seeing the chickens. Staff were attentive and we loved that local produce was used (my son liked the locally made apple juice). Will definitely be back, shame we are a two hour drive away. Would love to see more of this around my own town!
We went here for the first time last night. The food was great, but the star was the egg custard tart with rhubarb. I can't remember ever having a better dessert!!
Amazing food served by friendly staff by a log fire!!
Fabulous pub. Great atmosphere - lovely log fires, so really cosy. Food was amazing - not cheap, but great value fir money. I'll be back!

Always great food and service. We all really enjoy having our family get togethers here.
Arranged to have Sunday lunch recently. Friendly welcome, excellent food & service.
I spent two cozy, very comfortable nights in one of the Red Lion’s shepherd’s huts and would highly recommend the experience. It was as well appointed as any hotel room, with nice touches like an Alexa speaker and complimentary gummy sweets. The heating worked perfectly (it was freezing outside) and the bed gave me an excellent weekend of sleep. The bathroom is fully functional, despite being in a detached building. The continental breakfast was fantastic and delivered precisely at the pre-arranged time.
The pub itself has excellent food and two cozy fireplaces. Perfect for a quiet weekend of country walks.
(My only suggestion would be slightly bigger bath towels.)
Walked here for lunch, from our caravan after reading the great reviews and we weren't disappointed.
It was a lovely day so sat in the garden where two friendly chickens came along to greet us.
We decided to try the Northmoor Red Ruby Devon Beef Burgers, I had the Skinny Fries and my husband had the Chunky chips and both were delicious!
Desserts were the Strawberry & White chocolate cheesecake and Custard tart with Raspberry puree. They were to die for.
The waitress was lovely and very attentive.
We couldn't have asked for more and will definitely be back!
Lovely relaxed pub with friendly staff. Will return in winter as I would imagine it's very cosy. Food good but expensive We really enjoyed our visit.
Hadn't been here for a couple of years so thought we'd visit again being as we were staying close by. Stopped in for a Sunday lunch, small family of 3 with a 5 year old.
What I liked about this pub is there's no background music piped out which makes a nice change. The welcome is warm and friendly enough as you'd expect for a community pub that's been running for a good few years now.
Being as it was Sunday, we all had a Sunday roast which was topside of beef (£16) and a child's roast pork (£7) all of which were throughly enjoyed. The roast beef was plentiful and tender with the roast spuds crispy on the outside. We ordered an extra side of veg but only due to personal preference for lots of veg!
Desserts were also enjoyed and while an ordered coffee was forgotten about, it wouldn't stop us going back again, as we have done a few times over the years. A good country pub as it should be!
Lambs liver with the best gravy, veg and mash potato, lovely Pub and amazing food.
A must to return to.
Many thanks for a great meal.
Went for burger night, burger and a pint £12. I was surprised at the amazing quality for such a low price! Cannot wait to go back.
Lovely home cooked food, nice atmosphere and friendly service
Food was absolutely beautiful. Really really nice. Everything was cooked to perfection!
Best pub in the area for a relaxed meal and pint. Food is excellent and reasonably priced, you can tell the chef really cares about the quality. Service always attentive and friendly. Beers on tap always different, but well-kept. But it’s the atmosphere of the place that wins it for me; no intrusive music, just soft chatter and log fires. The perfect country pub.
Stayed in Northmoor for the weekend. The Red Lion has friendly staff, good ales and fantastic food. Definitely going back
Fantastic friendly team, well kept beers and some great local food. Just about the perfect village pub.
In the beautiful village of Northmoor in Oxfordshire it is everything an English pub should be. Superb food and drink and the best staff. The Shepherds hut bed and breakfast is incredible. Even with bad weather you looked out at the world from a warm and cosy place. The huts, with shower rooms and kitchen sinks are fitted to a superb standard. Breakfast was fresh and healthy. It became one of my favourite places to spend my time.
A simultaneouly enticing and welcoming ambience aided by both a glamorous "shabby chic" tent and a mature, extensive beer garden. Food was delicious and nutritious; staff friendly and efficient. Thank you.
Popped in for lunch today, really enjoyed as always. Great service, presentation and quality. Nice new options on the menu too. Keep up the good work!
Absolutely delicious and one of the best meals we have had whilst dining out recently. Lovely menu and very pleasant staff. Travelled from Abingdon for a meal with visitors from Bucks. Everything was perfect, and a selection of dishes to suit all tastes. Will definitely be back.
Lovely Sunday lunch followed by pineapple dessert - very refreshing.
Thanks for an amazing stay in your beautiful shepherd's hut. The hut itself is beautiful, with electricity, hot water and a real loo! The log burner is a nice touch. However, the included extras really make this good value money, free continental breakfast, free coffee, free wifi and electric, free bedding and towels, plus soap, shampoo etc in the bathroom! The gardens are beautiful too, we were so tempted to put one of the hens in the car with us! Added to all that, the pub and restaurant! Yes, there's a pub on site that also serves original and tasty meals. Lisa and the team are lovely and we'll definitely be back before too long!
We were on a short break in the area and found this local pub through word of mouth.
We had two fantastic meals there, great service, lovely fires, good beer and very fresh, well cooked food. I had the haddock risotto and have to say it was pretty amazing.
Highly recommend.
An excellent venue for a weekend stay (or longer) in their superbly appointed shepherd's huts, or just to drop in for a quick drink, a lunch or an evening meal. Or in my case, my wedding lunch! Lisa and Ian are superb hosts and you will get the same welcome whatever your visit entails - warm and pleasant. The food is very good indeed and you'll find a drink here to satisfy most tastes. There are few venues I would recommend unreservedly but this is one if them.
