Reviews Buddies New York American Diner

Used to come here all the time after work, one of my favourite places to eat for a nice relaxed vibe or meeting up with friends. It really is very strongly American themed, which can be a little too much after a day at work, but so is the food and the service! The restaurant is covered in decorations, even with a little toy train going around the ceiling. The portion sizes were huge, a little too big for me and a little expensive, but you definitely get good value for money in terms of quantity, if not quite quality; the food is pretty average, what you'd expect from any other takeaway really. They really came into their own on deserts, which were absolutely beautiful and delicious, definitely recommend popping in for a sundae!

A restaurant with as you would expect a strong American theme in deco and menu. It is lavishly decorated in a fun way rather than a tasteful way and that's good for an informal meal. Brash maybe but is supposed to be American. The food was good. There is a wide choice including some healthier options. Good was the choice to have potatoes in different ways not just chips. Portion size is generous. The staff were pleasant and thankfully more English than American in manner. So overall a recommendation.

I used to LOVE this place, the food was amazing & the portions were huge, infact, I really haven't found another restaurant like it. Since moving away from Northampton, I decided to pop in for lunch when visiting family, and I have to say I was VERY disappointed. The portions are now average, and the food wasn't nearly to the standard it used to be. Have they changed hands methinks?

Unless you knew this place was there, it would be very easy to walk past Buddies. Once you've walked through the unassuming exterior, however, you are left in no doubt that you are eating in an American diner. The owners have crammed the place full of Americana with road signs, images of famous American figures and television screens displaying images of New York's busy streets. The menu is as equally American as the décor and extremely satisfying. For the burger lovers there are so many different options available it will take you some time to choose and for the rest the menu is diverse and enticing. I would certainly recommend the homemade coleslaw and fries for the full on experience. The important bit of advice for Buddies is to book in advance where possible as it is small and gets very busy but definitely worth a visit.

This is a fantastic American style diner in the centre of Northampton. It is very well hidden, ebing tucked away down a side street and it is very small! However the food more than makes up for it! The main standards are burgers, but they have a very wide range with lots of extras. Portions are massive, but save room for pudding as they are gorgeous. It's a great place to go for lunch as the service is really quick and the staff are really friendly, you don't usually have to book for lunchtimes either! The prices are also very reasonable

Fantastic little diner situated in the centre of Northampton comes with all the usual American eatery comforts larger portions and refills on your drinks. This place is only small but tends to pack people in. Very hard to find and parking nearby is limited. Décor is typically American and the service is good.

This Buddies I nice little place just off the high street, its a good fun place, has HUGE portions and a lot of character. However its not a matter of quantity over quality as everything I've ever had there has been amazing!

Buddies is a little old hat now.but then Northampton is a little black-hole in time anyway! The food at Buddies is still pretty good and good value for money. Sure a 12oz burger is not good for you, but when it tastes this good you don't want it to end! Actually the portion sizes are what Buddies are known forand they are somewhat oversized, a la their New York diner style appearance. Along side your normal sized burger (6oz I think) you'll have a plate stacked high with fries and either a dollop of home made coleslaw that would serve a small family or a slightly healthier option of a salad. There's plenty of other equally gargantuan sized dishes on the menu too, the corned beef hash is great and the steak sandwhich too. Ones to avoidhot dog - just a very bland (but giant) sausage and macaroni cheese, which I think they made with processed cheese. Not badjust not great. Apart from that, don't eat for the week, ask for a doggy bag and enjoy the largest plate of food in the west!

this is a great family restaurant, it sells everything from steak, burgers salards. fish, and sandwiches, it has some great lunchtime offers, the sence is great with live tv on the walls showing new york, and grat famous people on the wall making it a great place to go, the only downside is it is a small place and it gets very busy so you will need to book or wait a long time enjoy

Small but great place with atmospheric interior, a mite hint of 🇺🇸. Very pleasant members of staff and tasty food🍴! I ordered ALABAMA breakfast without black pudding. Portion of dish - perfect 👌. One of the best BBQ sauces. Fully recommended and definitely come back! 😊

I have been coming to Buddies for years now and the food has always been great. Service is good, even when it’s busy the waitress/waiters will get to you in good time. The decor is great and makes you feel like you are no longer in Northampton! The only down side I have found is that when I have order spicy bean burgers they are actually curry burgers so it doesn’t really go well with the fillings of the burger. Apart from that it’s great and all at a really good price.

Great atmosphere and service with a smile. I've come here a lot and always found it to be the same consistent experience. Food is done in a timely manner, presented well and tasty. I've been a vegetarian for many years and I'm always impressed that there is plenty of choice. We'll done to staff and management.

Brought my mother in for her birthday lunch, first time visiting in around a year's time. Was greeted and seated by a friendly waitress! Was surprised by menu potions since last visiting, lunch time set course was our obvious choice, such a good price for a lovely and well prepared lunch! 5* food! My mother let slip it was her birthday as it was another guests birthday too. Then without even asking a young lad who had taken over our table whilst the other went on break I assume. He was professional, well spoken and a delight to be served by him. Can see him going far! Sorry for not catching names. All in all a perfect lunch for my mother, thank you!

First visit was okay, staff weren't very enthusiastic. Second visit to this branch today and the girl serving was much more vibrant. I generally stick to the Louisiana Lip which is delicious and it's a great place to come on a Sunday that isn't over priced compared to the other few places that are open, making it ideal in a limited choice situation.

Had my first Buddies experience recently and my word I was not disappointed! The menu was ridiculously extensive with some outright peculiar options after about 15 minutes I managed to make up my mind and went for the Venom burger and couldn't have been happier! Our waitress was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. I'm looking forward to my next visit!

Our family loves this place. We come here once a year to have dinner after watching the races at Santa Pod Main Event over May Bank Holiday. Great atmosphere, great staff and just a lot of fun as a part of our annual 'petrol-head pilgrimage' to this part of the world.

The original buddies resteraunt. Been going here regularly for about 20 years and it never disappoints. Always friendly helpful cheery staff, anyways great food, always completely stuffed upon leaving. The burgers are what they are famous for and for good reason but don't forget to try the steaks and ribs as well. Never tried one but they do veggie options on the burgers too.

Buddies was a fantastic stop on our trip to Northampton. Absolutely loved it. It's quite tucked away but it's deceptively spacious inside. The menu is huge but reasonably priced with more burger choices than you can shake a stick at. Plus, the walls and ceiling are littered with America and film memorabilia.
