Super place for eating & drinking and for catching up with friends on an evening. Sunday in particular, the roast is to die for, book early though, it gets very busy. They do always try and fit you in if you happen to drop in for lunch on Sunday's. Themed menu nights are loads of fun and the taster nights. Friendly owners Diane and Iain, staff and locals. Dog friendly and beautiful village.

My wife and I have just had a fantastic Sunday lunch. Top quality, top value. Hadn't booked but they managed to squeeze the two of us in. Tempted to try dessert menu but just couldn't manage it. Absolutely stuffed. We've paid a lot more for a sunday lunch thats been no where near as good, will be back.

Only recently started doing food again, but I'm glad they have! I had chorizo hash (spicy) and fillet steak, both excellent. All 9 members of our party enjoyed their meals. Nice hand pulled guest ale, super friendly staff and locals.

As always a wonderful takeaway experience. Food is to die for and the staff are absolutely fab. The pics don’t do the quality of the food justice. Reluctantly suggesting this venue as it is, in my opinion, one of the best kept secrets in North Yorkshire.

Went here for Sunday lunch while staying in the village last week - had phoned in advance and they were able to accommodate a party of 6 adults, a baby in a pram and a dog. Wow, what a fantastic meal ! I can honestly say that this was the best Sunday lunch I have ever had in a pub. Everyone in our party agreed that it was superb. Plates were loaded with as much meat (beef, chicken, pork, gammon) as you could manage. The amount of extra veg put on the table was outstanding. The food was absolutely delicious and everyone was full to the brim. Excellent service from all staff and the lady in charge was so helpful and friendly and made us all feel so welcome. Was a struggle to walk back down to our cottage! Overall a top class experience and if you are in this area, do yourself a favour and visit the Lord Nelson for your Sunday lunch - you won't regret it !!!

Went up to Appleton Wiske for a holiday and this was our local. The bar staff / landlord / family / local residents were all lovely and very welcoming each time we went in. The food is delicious! The prices were not to argue about (we even said they were too low!) Was gutted this was just a holiday spot rather than a local to us. Would definitely give them my custom again should we have another Staycation in Yorkshire.

What an amazing gem - a traditional village pub serving great beers and unbelievably delicious home-cooked meals. Extremely popular with 'locals', and a great discovery for anyone outside the village who stumbles across it. The landlord/chef, Iain, is renowned for the food he serves up, particularly on his theme nights, and of course his infamous Sunday Lunch.
