Went for a meal last night and it was lovely. Welcoming, efficient service, great food and reasonable prices. Seems like they’ve got everything right.
Will definitely be back.
Discovered this place in passing as staying nearby and was not disappointed. The food was exceptional. We both had game pie and neither of us could think of a better pie/chips we've ever had. Great atmosphere and service. Lovely old style pub, would highly recommend.
With vegetarians in our party we sometimes have disappointing experience eating out in rural Yorkshire. We phoned a pub near North Staveley to check what they offered for Sunday lunch and were told "we could get some vege sausages out of the freezer". This led us to try The Staveley Arms instead and I am so grateful we did!
We received a very warm welcome and were shown to a table in a spacious dining room. Simply decorated it felt very homely and comfortable.
The menu did not disappoint with lots of choice for meat and fish eaters. There was also a vegan option and another vegetarian option. Our party ordered a roast beef dinner, bream and finally a vegetarian strudel. The only comment was that the gravy with the beef had too much flavour distracting from the meat, a personal preference rather than a complaint. The fish and vegetarian meals were spot on with perfect, freshly cooked vegetables. Be prepared to wait a good 15 minutes for this to happen but it's well worth it and you should never be in rush for good food.
Desert choice was maybe less inspiring than the rest of the menu but we had a chocolate brownie and a chocolate tart both of which were well presented and delicious.
Most of the staff were youngsters but have clearly been well trained being efficient and very attentive without intruding.
Overall we felt that it was one of the best meals we have had in a long time and incredibly good value. There is absolutely no doubt that we will be returning whenever we are in the area.
Lovely place to go even for just a drink but food was lovely. The only thing that it lacks is more vegetarian options.
Brilliant! The food was delicious, the staff kind and attentive, and the surroundings very pleasant. We two vegans were well catered for with several off menu options.
First visit with new owners. All very good. Wish them lots of success in their new venture.
The food was lovely, they actually sold out of the rump and offered venison instead, which was surprisingly very nice! But some staff weren’t very helpful when I walked up to bar and I was ignored until someone else noticed me and got me some help. Some of the staff were very nice though and helpful. I would defiantly go again
Came here for a family birthday celebration Christmas week. The food was utterly sensational - thank you team you never disappoint.
Brilliant! From the moment I phoned to discuss my wife’s gluten free requirements and arriving at the door, everyone could not have been more helpful! We were made to feel so welcome and the staff were very friendly and attentive. My wife and I both said it was the tastiest Sunday roast we have had in a very long time! We will definitely be coming back.
“Thank you for great Gluten free choices” It really is appreciated 👏🏼
Sunday lunch was perfect.
Portion size ,couldn't quite finish it so great.
Food quality, absolutely nothing could be any better.
Website said fully booked, luckily I phoned up.
Well worth the drive from "Bratfud" "
Lovely Venue
Went for a Special family Sunday Lunch. The place is amazing loads of space. We were a party of 14 & had a room to ourselves. But there is plenty of other lovely tables & spaces in the venue. The staff were great attentive but not pushy. The food was hot & beautiful cooked with a great variation of plentiful vegetables. The usual choice of beef, pork, lamb & Chicken together with a variety of fish choices. Just had main course delicious & very filling. Good luck if you can manage starter & pudding as well. 5 stars well deserved
Only given 4 stars as I did not get to experience the entire establishment. Very welcoming staff and very acommodating. I turned up for dinner without a reservation but was allocated a spot in the bar area if I didn't mind. A nice selection of bar drinks available and the one I had been kept well. A Christmas menu as well as a la carte. Slightly above average prices in comparison to other venues in the area but that's like comparing M & S to TK MAX (preference).
I chose to have a fresly made steak and ale pie. There is a 30 minute waiting time on this. The mash was very nice as was the side of gravy and vegetables.
I'm certainly one for my pies and in my personal opinion I felt that the 30 minute wait was a real let down for what I received. I gave my feedback to the staff as constructive, not negative as everyone to their own when it comes to their pallet. When you expect a steak and Ale pie, that is just what you'd expect and not a meat and veg pie, you already have a side of very nice veg. The gravy had very little taste to it unless the side of gravy was meant to be the ale part of the dish? There was certainly no richness or ale taste and I'm used to this in other pies I've had throughout the region and other parts of the UK. All in all I found the food, drink and staff and venue very pleasant.
Absolutely beautiful! The food was amazing, we had intentions of a two course meal but never got to dessert as the Sunday lunch was enough! I guess that means we will have to return. Honestly, the food here was so excellently prepared with nothing tasteless. The front of house staff were all so lovely and competent, rushing around on a Sunday and tending to everyone's needs seemed like a walk in the park for this team. Thankyou so much for a lovely Sunday x
Myself, my husband, son and daughter -in-law visited for a pre Christmas meal and we're not disappointed. The food was delicious, all freshly prepared and we were made to feel welcome by the friendly staff. Would definitely recommend it.
Very nice dinner for 11 people high quality great service will be back
Lovely pub very nice beer and food and nice friendly, efficient staff.
Very clean and also a very nice outside seating area.
Lunch time sandwiches very nice and good portions.
Close to Ripon and the Dales.
Recently stayed at Cedar Retreats in West Tanfield which is very nice. There are 2 pubs In the village, The Bull and Bruce Arms. The Staveley Arms beats them both hands down.
Been here twice now once during lockdown. It is convenient to meet up with family coming from different areas of the country. The huge strength is the quality of the food! We had a total of 12 meals here and everyone has been superb.
