Another lovely meal at the Square and Compass. Sunday lunch celebrating Father's Day. Great food, best Sunday roast ever, service excellent. We ate in the bar area as had our dog with us, perfect. Thankyou Charlotte for looking after us. Highly recommend a visit�
Stopped off here yesterday morning on the way through from the airport too early for lunch menu, we were asked if a bacon roll would be ok said yes but my daughter is celiac so they went and checked in kitchen said they had a roll which was gluten free we tucked into our bacon rolls sitting outside in the sun under a umbrella which was moved for us. We couldn't have asked for a better service thank you x
Had a lovely experience. Called in for a drink whilst out on a country walk. Lovely surroundings and really friendly staff. The only reason I'm not giving it five stars was the cost of drinks, which is well above average local prices. I would still recommend a visit though.
April 2024. We had Sunday lunch late in the afternoon. The atmosphere was great, very welcoming, the service was prompt without feeling rushed and all the staff were pleasant and smiled.
The food was 5 star, a beef and a lamb roast Sunday dinner. The quality of the meat and presentation was outstanding and whilst some would consider it on the higher price side for Sunday lunch it was definitely worth it.
Will definitely return next time we’re in the area.
The service was immaculate in this busy friendly restaurant. We were there for Mother's day and it was a perfect venue for our celebration.
After a great welcome, we all enjoyed a hearty roast dinner and a wide choice of delicious deserts. The team of young servers were attentive and efficient contributing to the atmosphere of happy family celebration. They are a credit to their generation!
The professional management team worked tirelessly to maintain the feeling of calm and comfort.
A small mothers day gift at the end of the meal confirmed a most enjoyable experience.

We love visiting for Sunday Lunch… the food is amazing and the staff are just as fabulous. We always find there’s a real buzz about the place, a great atmosphere to be in.

We have had the most fabulous Sunday lunch here today. The staff are delightful and smile as they work. Nothing is too much trouble for them and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The lamb was delicious and the bottomless roastie a real treat. Thank you
I didn't stay so I can't comment on their rooms but the service was great, staff were really switched on, polite and efficient.
The pub was crowded out, with locals I guess, enjoying the tasty food. We stumbled upon this gem of a place while travelling along the A658 to Harrogate, you can't miss the huge sign, very helpful 👍🏻
I would definitely call in here again if I'm in the area and can squeeze into the packed car park.
I came for a roast with friends and family. The staff were very busy as it was Sunday lunch time, the host seemed stressed but overall managed to work through some confusion regarding tables and we were promptly seated
The food and service was good, and the extra potatoes is a nice touch. Desert was excellent

Really lovely pub and amazing staff, every time we’ve been it’s been great service. Went in for a pint yesterday and when returning to the car it had broken down. All of the staff were really helpful and accommodating while we waited to be towed.
Lovely venue, very friendly staff and the roast was amazing. We ordered the four meat feast for 4 of us, perfect amount for us all. Would recommend and will definitely be back.
Ate in the restaurant this evening as a large party (10 people). Lovely homely feel to it with toasty warm real fire in centre of room. Large menu selection with food intolerances well catered for also. Excellent service and top notch food. A gastro pub well worth a visit.
Went for dinner on Saturday. Have had mixed experiences in the past, but it really seems like the food and service has improved and I really couldn’t fault it at all. All our food was delicious and the service was spot on.
A last minute decision to pop in for Sunday Lunch today, it was amazing as always, thank you so much. So happy to see all the outside furniture back in place and ready for us all to enjoy already. See you all very soon xxx
We found this place quite by accident whilst walking from Harrogate to Almscliffe Crag. It'd gotten later than we envisioned and we wanted to get some food before it became too late, so we rocked up without a reservation on Easter Sunday and they were so nice as to find us a table right away.
Sunday roast was all around us and looked really impressive! But since we weren't too hungry we ordered the soup of the day, prawn cocktail and a sharing platter with hummus and olives for the two. It was all truly delicious and the coffee was very nice too.
The ambient of it is brilliant: family friendly yet still very elegant, really nicely furnished and decorated, with a brilliant outdoors space for when the weather allows and so close to the Crag it's definitely worth a visit before or after a meal!
Looking forward to visiting again, on purpose, for a proper Sunday roast!
Oh! And it's also a wedding venue btw.
Had a most enjoyable bank holiday evening meal. Service was excellent, Tim was out waiter, very knowledgeable, really friendly service and beautiful meal.
Square&Compass for food or a drink it’s always a first class welcome from James and the team. Highly recommend, roaring fires in the winter months and bifold doors leading to patio and outside bar in the summer. What’s not to like 👍
