The Moorcock is one of a kind, a unique dining experience where the chef creates dishes from his own imagination. He uses ingredients grown in his own kitchen garden, foraged locally or supplied by very local farmers; and there's a lot of pickling, preserving, smoking and BBQ. The bar has a wide ran
We stopped by for lunch after a rainy walk. We were warmly welcomed, dogs got a blanket and a water bowl. Service was friendly and attentive, food was absolutely delicious. Stunning flavour combinations and textures. The atmosphere was cozy with a nice buzz. Would definitely recommend.
A one of a kind evening! Delicious food with an excellent choice of wines to go with. An ever changing menu with amazing flavours.
Such a shame it is closing in January 2023. If you can get a table before then, highly recommended.
Last but not least, friendly and helpful staff. A real pleasure to vi
Sen. Say. Shon. Nal!!!!!! Every mouthful was a delight, and every mouthful was a connection to the earth. The menu has something for everyone with great meat, pesce, veggie and vegan options. The wood fires give the god an incredible rich and deep flavour. Very very dog friendly (it seemed like most
So glad we were able to visit the Moorcock before it closes permanently in January. Beautiful spot with a small and perfectly formed garden with views out to the Moors.
The food was beautiful and perfectly matched the stunning wine list with a focus on natural wines. It's been a while since I've see
If you want to eat in the restaurant you’ll most likely need to book in advance - Jay Rayner’s more than complementary article in the Guardian has definitely put this place on the map. The tasting menu is amazing - imaginative use of often local, foraged ingredients with a menu that changes regularl
Visited today on the back of Jay Rayner's recent review. Facing beautiful moorland at the front, the car park and entrance are at the rear of the building. Inside the pub has been tastefully decorated with flagstone floors and a wood burner, which will make it cozy come winter. We arrived at opening
Had the restaurant set menu (7 courses) and 1 extra cheese course. I'm piscetarian so they adapted the menu to suit ( I mentioned this when I booked). The food and wine were delicious, the staff are knowledgeable and friendly and the pub is really cosy. I ate lots of things I have never tasted b
Really lovely place. Up in the hills set in some beautiful countryside. The restaurant and pub are rustic and full of charm, stone and wood decor suits nicely. The staff were wonderful, very cheerful and helpful. Food wise we had the taster menu and wine pairing. I have to say at £35 the taster menu
First of what will be many trips here no doubt!
Couldn't fault any of the food in the slightest - easily the best trout I've ever eaten, somehow beating out the best steak pie I've had!
Thoughtful service and excellent wine selection to boot
(Feb 2022) Booking a table was easy. First time here. Plenty parking and lovely venue in the moorland. The menu and dishes are phenomenal. Wide variety of beers and wine. Superb service and very attentive staff. The price was reasonable too. My only reason for not scoring 5 stars was that there was
The quality of food on offer at the Moorcock is absolutely fantastic for the price, and any price for that matter. Saturday lunch tasting menu was served by excellent waiting staff and the main course of roast chicken cooked in salt dough was presented to us with an introduction on how the cooking t
Incredible food, brilliant service. Very relaxed and causal but the food was seriously refined. Loved it and can't wait to go back.
Faultless! 4th visit in a few months, had a great meal (see menu and clean plates) ha-ha Even George wanted in on the action
Make the journey, you won't be disappointed!!! Closing forever very soon
If you walk in and there is a free table, grab it, don't stand on ceremony. We went to the pub side. Its busy, crowded, you've got to push yourself forward, dont be a wall flower, there is one blackboard with the menue, take a photo get your drinks and go back to your table. Once you've ordered, foo
A very enjoyable evening, the stand out dishes were the onion tart, the gratin and the beeswax and rapeseed oil ice-cream.
Excellent lunch chosen from a creative menu. Helpfully and efficiently served. Choice of table for us in snug was also helpful for our long chat with old friends Shop has great range of pottery, crafts, wine, beers and gin
Arguably the best food offering in Calderdale, The Moorcock specialises in fine ingredients, often foraged, perhaps fermented, maybe raised on a small holding... likely cooked on their immense woodfired outdoor grill
Your thought provoking scran will be served to you on in-house fired crockery - al
