I nipped to this takeaway, having driven for 3hrs and checked into my accom before working a long shift the following day.
The lovely person serving me was patient with my order, advised of the cost, and the portion size was excellent given the cost (£6.05!!! I felt like I'd ripped them off!).
The food was lovely, didn't sit heavily and tasted excellent.
If I ever visit Newtown again, I would not hesitate in ordering from here again.
Been using silver fish for over 15 yrs. 1st in Welshpool and since they opened in newtown. A fantastic family business that goes above and beyond. Always fresh.. if you want anything freshly cooked as you wait they will do so... I always prefer the friendliness here too.

We ordered fish/sausage & chips from Silver Fish for our wedding evening party. They were absolutely fantastic! They arrived well wrapped and were piping hot! All our guests loved them and we have had loads of comments about how nice they were - just what everyone fancied after a few drinks.
Maria has been a pleasure to work with from when I booked- she is responsive, friendly and keen to help. She even sorted out gluten free and vegetarian options. I cannot recommend highly enough. Brilliant!
Perfect chips, and fish was large, really moist with a light batter. All cooked freshly to order.
We called here last Tuesday ,service was excellent , I had the battered sausage and small chips ,my partner had beef and onion pie & small chips ,they were well wrapped and very hot and the prices were very good ,we had the same meal from a chip shop in Machynlleth the week before ,but the sausage was very small and they were still more expensive than the Silver fish .
The wife had a COD and chips, the portion was massive, and the fish was cooked beautifully, best fish in town by far. I had a Chicken curry and chips, which was out of this world, also a very good portion... if not too much :). The portions are very big and the prices are very low! BEST FAST FOOD IN NEWTOWN!!! A must try. FIVE STARTS FROM ME AND THE WIFE!!!!

Not a lover of fish and chips as a rule . But if you are these are stunning . Capt Ahab look no further . .wouldn't like a fish the size you get in Silver fish on hook tasty pleasant staff . Centre of town . All in all superb..can only assume negative comments from local rival? . Eco warriors moaning about businesses trying to keep costs at minimum ASK for food in paper . And individuals with plum in mouth worried about mask wearing considering from different country , as England , was she aware that throughout flu virus? Wales and England differed almost continually on what rules were . And I do not think that posters are going to be up and down as had weekly changes. And the other complaint I noticed was silver fish land lord and landlady ehhh THAT says pub to me and everybody else with a higher than single digit IQ..I find it disturbing that people set out to complain if poor say so yes but , have been there dozen times and have been 100% happy each time far nicer than Genie..joke never ate there 😑
Had Jumbo sausage and chips from here a week ago. Wow the chips were beautifully cooked and I couldn't believe how big the sausage was. Will definitely call in again!!
Main chippy in newtown now, park on the main street if you can. Fish was really good, freshly done so a little wait, but that's a positive
Small, family run fish & chip shop. Always looks spotlessly clean, prices are very reasonable and the portions substantial. The owner and his daughters are always very welcoming, polite and cheeful. Since covid-19, the shop has offered a pre-order and collect service and has implemented a good social distancing policy for their customers to follow. Service is fast, the food is consistently good and parking is rarely a problem in the evenings.
Great food very reasonable prices. Friendly staff. I will return next time I'm passing.
