We never write reviews purely for the fact that we don't have time, but I have all the time in the world for the Parkers Arms. We mistakenly discovered this "hidden gem" about 9 months ago, and anytime we have something to celebrate we book!! Everytime we have had a meal here, the food is "to die for". For starters, the drive out is stunning, the countryside has to be be the most idyllic in Lancashire. Even pulling up in the car park there are tiny bunnies hopping around. Another reviewer complained about the lack of "background music" and I must admit on our first visit I said the same. But now that I have experienced the Parkers, I would rather hear the "chitter chatter' from the other locals, and be able to hear the landlord come over for a friendly chat, or say hi to the couple on the next table who have just discovered this amazing place. I'm reluctant to rate this place a 5 star as I'd like to keep this place to ourselves, but that wouldn't be fair to AJ and Ben and their amazing team who work so hard. The food is the freshest I have ever tasted, the flavours that burst in your mouth are out of this world, you will not be disappointed. The service is perfect, not intrusive, always friendly, professional and with a smile. AJ ... you are a gem, a real gentleman, you are definitely part of the reason we love this place and keep returning. Our son was 9 weeks when we first found you, he's now 9 months and as long as nothing changes he will be going there until he's 90!! If you read this review to the end..... please please don't tell anyone about the Parkers!! We like to keep it our secret!!
Was there this weekend the staff were so friendly great beer and the food really was amazing would highly recommend
Superb food again! The lamp rump was spring on a plate. It's always awesome, whatever's on the menu. They're doing a brilliant job and rightfully getting recognition for it.
We love to come to the Parker's Arms for Sunday lunch, or special occasions like Mother's Day. The menu constantly changes and always features seasonal - and mainly local - ingredients. The dishes are simply delicious - prepared to a very high standard, with perfectly matched flavours, but completely unfussy. We like the warm and friendly atmosphere and our 8-year old is treated like a VIP Nice wine list too and beautiful surroundings to walk off the calories afterwards I can highly recommend the Parker's Arms. 5 stars!
Another fantastic meal at Parker’s - loved the crab starter and the Lancashire hot pot. Floating rhubarb meringues were heavenly. Great service especially as we had our 18 month year old daughter with us. Can’t wait to go back soon. Thanks to everyone for a great Easter treat.
Enjoyed a simply delicious meal with you on Wednesday lunchtime. Great value. Great service (thanks Ben) and most importantly, great food !!
Attentive, interested staff and delicious food. Relaxed atmosphere ... will definitely return
Oh MG. Really great place, lovely staff and the food was amazing . I had the locally 'shot' venison which was dressed in a herb pesto with shaved mushrooms...it was incredibly tasty. We will be back
Regular visitor with the family and dog, we park at Slaidburn then walk down the river Hodder to the Parkers Arms then back. Food is exceptional with the menu changing regularly and seasonally. Good choice of guest beers and friendly staff.
Had a lovely meal - liver terrine - roast pheasant with all trimmings - perfectly cooked - great mein host - lovely atmosphere - never had a bad meal here - always stop quality cooking - a real sense the business loves what it does and enjoys selling great locally sourced food - it's always a pleasure to visit
When people ask me for my favourite place to eat, as they often do, I usually struggle to give a definitive answer. But the more I think of it the more I reckon it’s probably the Parkers Arms.
I know, it’s not got a Michelin star or a celebrity chef attached. It’s not glitzy, or in an up and coming part of town, it’s not even in a town. There are no faddy menus bursting with the latest food trends.
But there is a passionate chef who knows her way around a kitchen, there’s great food made from quality ingredients – mostly local, always seasonal – and served in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
There are many things that Stosie does well but few better than her parfaits. I’ve previously loved her mushroom, scallop and crab parfaits and while not quite as delicate as those, I enjoyed the festive ‘Game livers & port parfait’ too.
This was also served with an acidic salad containing pickled celeriac – amongst other things – to cut through the richness of the parfait.
I’ve had venison on most visits to the Parkers Arms and it’s always excellent, of course because Stosie is a great cook but also because it comes from a local estate (on one of my first visits AJ pointed out of the window to the field it came from).
Actually, on this occasion, it was a bit overcooked for my liking, though it still tasted great and was juicy enough.
The creamed mash was unbelievably good and I loved the simple garnish of sautéed watercress and pickled damson.
Every bank holiday we go with a load of mates, camping somewhere in the countryside. Except recently they've all upgraded to camper vans and trailer tents. As all our spare money goes on fine food, we're usually in the local B&B. We get to visit quite a few rural country pubs on out trips. In general the food is pretty standard at best, more often than not, disappointing. Far from being a nation of 'foodies' as some people would have you believe, most people seem to be happy with the poor quality food you get in most places. We've got quite adept at knowing what to order and what most pubs will mess up, in fact few offer anything different outside of fish and chips, pie and chips etc. The general state of pub food may be better than it was twenty years ago but it's still nowhere near good enough. Proper good food pubs are more unusual. This is why we cherish and support places like the Parkers Arms.
Lovely place to stop for lunch.great fresh food and helpful friendly staff
It has been a long time since the last post and an even longer time since we visited Parkers Arms back in January. It was a relaxing long drive from Manchester to Newton-in-Bowland over several hills, roundabouts and windy roads on a beautiful crisp Winters day. We were shown a very warm welcome by our host AJ as we escaped the bitter cold and were soon sipping on a latte to warm up. The focus of the menu were the appetising game dishes and after ordering we were soon presented with some Tweet treats. These included cheese twists and crispy fried potatoe skins which kept us going after the long drive. We had seen Chef patron, Stosie Madi, tweet about the treats and were excited to receive them. For starters I chose the pepper venison loin salad with damsons and damson jelly. It was probably not the best choice for me as I had a cough at the time which was aggravated by the pepper. However the meaty venison was enjoyable and it gave me the opportunity to eat most of Mr Noms starter ins
I wasn't sure how Parker's Arms could actually live up to all the hype but in reality our meal surpassed our expectations. It was easy to see how the place has become so talked about - as soon as we had finished our meal I immediately wanted to shout about the place from the rooftops! Even though it is a bit of a drive, we've already been talking about going back there very soon and want to take all our friends so they can see how great it is too. Food and service like this is worth travelling for! So, did Bailey enjoy his birthday meal and how did it compare to The French? In fact... he said it was one of the best meals of the year and he actually enjoyed it MORE than The French! What a success. Thanks to everyone at Parker's Arms for such a delectable afternoon!
We had an absolute ball at the Parkers Arms New Year celebrations. AJ, Stosie and the rest of the team spoilt us rotten. It's lovely to see a place where it's more than just a business, it's a labour of love. None of the hospitality shown is fake; AJ welcomes you in with open arms and is so enthusiastic about the produce that I fear one day he may burst. Stosie is running a tight ship in the kitchen, and sending out some of the best food we have tasted all year
It’s wild garlic season so it features in many of the dishes. Like the fabulous, still warm homemade focaccia, dipping it in the silky wild garlic mayo turned it into the best garlic bread ever.
Despite being a bit of a food snob and eating hardly any processed food one thing I’m quite partial to is tinned corned beef. Or at least I was until I tried this next dish, now I fear after eating ‘Parkers Corned Beef’ i’ll never be able to eat the tinned variety again. Served warm in a jar the beef had all the same flavours but the texture was out of this world, with the fantastic fresh molasses bread and excellent piccalilli this was another outstanding dish.
It was only after our second visit to the Parkers Arms that it came up on my feed that we'd been the exact same day the year before!
Still as good, food and wine superb. Not cheap but a wonderful all-around nice place with warm welcome and quirky nature.
Can recommend 👌
Warm and friendly welcome
staff. We had the £50 each menu choice of 3 for each course . Lovely starters we were asked if any allergies and cucumber was served in the salad even though we mentioned it on ordering . Main course pie was excellent the herb lamb meal was 3 slices of lamb with vegetables and potatoes on the side quite ordinary expected more on the presentation . The dessert was refreshing and cheese and biscuits were nice . Overall a nice lunch but slightly disappointing experience.
Been for a drink previously so was on my radar to visit. AJ is always friendly and chatty and just happened to be the father of someone that worked for lèclume, where we dined on Friday.
The three course lunch menu had something for everyone; fish, game and the wine list was extensive and nice to know Byrne's, a local shop was their purveyor. I know I can visit to buy wine then.
A lovely and hot cheese Churro arrived before we ate and nice to know local farms were used for the pork I ordered.
AJs sister and joint owner took our order and a nice waitress served us.
Food was cooked to perfection and look forward to visiting again as the seasons and menus change.
Oh! My son insulted me and said the roast potatoes were the best he had ever had 😳 and the cracking on the pork to. Not making that again for him 😂
We had the Easter 3 course menu April 23 and was absolutely blown away. One of the best meals we've ever had in our lives. The atmosphere is great and staff friendly, it's our new favourite place. We live 2.5 hours away but have already booked to come back again soon! Amazing and would highly recommend.
This place is doing everything right.
Visited for my partners birthday celebrations after seeing the Parkers Arms ratings in the gastro pub awards.
It's easy to see why this place has won the accolade of the best gastropub in the UK, they offer great service and brilliant food in a in a stunning part of the world.
Ps. If the grouse is on the menu when you go, pay the supplement and thank me later - one of the best things I've ever eaten.
Unfortunately we were late in arriving due to a complete loss of Google maps. The greeting we received was cold and abrupt and our apologies were not accepted. However this mood changed abruptly and we had an enjoyable and delicious meal. The route that we were advised to follow for our return was longer but an easier drive.

Tremendous food. Left absolutely stuffed, really generous portions. The cheese pie is probably the best pie I’ve ever had, cracking home made bread, and a first class cheese board from the Courtyard dairy, all washed down with some good local ale. The gent behind the bar and our server were both really friendly and made us feel incredibly welcome, was really nice to not feel rushed in and out. For the money it represents great value, we’ll definitely be returning.
A warm welcome and excellent ales on sunny day. What more could you want? Oh... yes, possibly something to eat. We didnt want any food since we'd had lunch already but the menu and ambience in the dining room looked great.
Just had the 3 course menu, great
choice of dishes and the food was amazing, the staff are so friendly and make you feel so very welcome, I can not recommend visting the Parkers Arms enough, just a lovely experience.
Amazing meal - each course was delightful- staff lovely and an all round lovely evening. Highly recommend and well worth the 45 minute drive through the Trough of Bowland from Lancaster 😊
We had an absolutely fantastic lunch for my father's birthday. Food was as good, if not better than expected. The owners are friendly and chatty and made the experience even better. It's definitely worth all the hype.
We had a fantastic meal for my husbands birthday.
The food was absolutely fantastic and the service was great.
It was the best mashed potato I’ve ever had!
We’ll definitely be back :D
The food was the best I’ve ever had, apart from my Mam’s?
Staff were welcoming and polite.
I’d be a regular if I lived closer!!
Memborable experience for all the right reasons. No fussing, relaxed atmosphere with 5 star food. The four of us felt the same. Everything that came out of the kitchen was fresh and delicious and whoever is in there knows about seasoning and obviously loves food.
I don’t really know what to say other than the venue, hospitality and food are always exceptional at the Parker’s Arms. Front of House is warm and welcoming and that theme continues all through the meal. We love the place 😊
Had lunch with my wife, and although the lunch menu was limited, we had their walkers sandwiches, which were delicious.
