Went here when it first opened and its certainly hasn't gotten worse. It fact the place is like a fine wine. Anyone that knows me will know I love my food and have been lucky to eat food all over the world. This place a hidden gem and would recommend it to anyone. The owners/staff are lovely, venue, beers and food are all top of the shelf.
My brother treated me to the weekly special pepperoni pizza burger with garlic fries and a tiny rebel IPA, the best burger/fries I've had in the UK and in the top 3 of all time.
Try it you won't be disappointed.

I'm an American ex-pat, and in 3 years of living in Newport and traveling near by, I hadn't found a burger than held a candle to anything you can get in the states, until tonight. I had the appropriately named yankee, with bacon, and dear god, it tastes like home. Such a superior burger, and the bacon is some of the best I've had, period. I am immensely grateful, guys! Whenever I get homesick, I know where I'm heading! Great quality, really affordable, and supporting local. Will be recommending this place to everyone I know.
Fantastic little place! Travelled over 40 mins to find the mystical Xmas burger the aptly named 'bar humburger'! And what a delight it was. The normal menu was something to behold in the first place, let alone the addition of the Xmas extras like Xmas dirty fries & foot long pig in a quilt! The staff were very friendly and polite and the whole evening was a pleasure.
Awesome meal with great service, would definately recommend the Yankee burger and staff were lovely. Great meal out with the other half thanks guys.
My partner and I popped in to Meat tonight for some food. This is the first time we have tried this place. we were very surprised by the relaxed, friendly atmosphere. The service was amazing, the food was top notch! Best burgers we have had by far. Highly recommended, local food, local people. We will definitely be returning.
Our first vist to meat bar and grill but deffenetly not our last, brilliant atmosphere friendly staff and great food, a great find right on our door step.

Myself and my 2 boys came here lastnight and I must say it was fantastic. Food was top quality and plenty of it. Was full to the brim and the boys loved the food also. The staff were brilliant with my boys. Will DefinAtely be back again soon x
What a lovely way you spend a Saturday night with friends! A wonderful walm welcome where staff went through the menu with you and made sure you were looked after. I had the special bollywood burger which was seriously the best burger I have had in a long time! Lots of choices and extras the natoes were delious too specially washed down with a peroni perfect atomsphere, Where you did not feel like you where located in newport next to the train station! There are often spaces right outside too to park! Can't wait to visit again! I wish the best to this local business the owners should be very proud of what they have achieved.

Visited this place on Saturday for a works night out. The staff were friendly and the food was fantastic. Will definitely be returning.
The decor hits you first. Quirky and fun. Then you see the open kitchen,I love to see my food being prepared. Then the food arrives and it tastes as good as it looks. The J.D burger sauce is slightly overpowering in taste, which is a shame cos you need to taste them burgers. They are the best burgers ever.
Absolutely amazing atmosphere and very friendly staff. Even though it states that it's fresh food and not fast food on the menu, the meals came out in good time and tasted so good! There were eight of us and we hadn't booked and they accommodated us very well! :)

The owner or manager here is absolutely lovely and I really like that he treats his staff well and manages bookings so that they don't get too stressed out. I think a commitment to them is great as it means your food isn't rushed and is prepared the way it's meant to be.
We were a big party and they handled us really well, all of us being served at the same time and getting what we ordered. Between us we pretty much ordered most of the real and secret menus!
Highlights: battered halloumi and spicy chicken fingers. These were both delicious either as a side to share or as a starter.
Lowlights: the nachos were not presented well and the portion felt a little mean. Rather than one flat layer of nacho chips with very little cheese, what seemed like a tablespoon of guacamole is not great for what is meant to go between four people. A little queso, pico de gallo and some layering would have saved this dish!
On the whole the food is lovely but I would echo what other reviewers are saying in that the burgers are quite dry and with only ketchup and mayo on the table the burger for me just felt like it was lacking something. I completely understand leaving sauce off - not everyone is a fan but having the option of mustard / burger sauce available would set it off completely.
There is a secret menu with a chilli burger on it which is absolutely delicious. You can also order sweet potato fries from it too.
All in all I would definitely go again and like this place. The music in there is great and that alone made my meal. It seems to be going for a Shoreditch vibe and it very nearly gets there.

Food was great staff was great to talk to and the service was great also I came here for a surprise Birthday meal in which my wife organised and we all had a great experience prices were reasonable as well, I would deffo come here again. 👍🏾
The burgers are excellent fresh, very tasty and cooked to perfection. Unfortunately the chips are not up to the same standard. They seem like those from frozen supermarket bags. It would be nice to have the option of home made chunky chips. Take a page from 5 Guys for the chips. Poor chips actually diminish the otherwise excellent experience.
I had a nacho burger and it was delicious, the burger was very moist and not greasy at all. The toppings were fresh and tasty and I really liked the crunch of the tortilla chips. It was a very sturdy and tasty burger. My only gripe is the dirty fries were very poor in my opinion. They were expensive and just not up to scratch, they were super dry and sparsely topped. I think they could be improved with more sauce and better fresher toppings. I don’t really understand why they used dry bacon bits when they have so many fresh ingredients. Apart from that, very good and I will visit again. The burgers are inventive and the decor inside was cosy and quirky.
What an amazing hidden gem of a place! If you like a burger you're in for a treat. Great food, great service and real value for money. We will definitely be visiting again.
Amazing burgers! They cater for coeliacs/ gluten free diets & the owners are so helpful. We had a great meal and really enjoyed everything! Service is perfect and they welcomed our little dog, even coming over to greet him. Definitely book a table!

Fantastic little posh burger shop. Huge value for money. Lovely food. Great atmosphere. Not a bad word to say. We'll be back the next time we're come past Newport at tea time.
What a cool little venue. I love the decor it really feels rustic with an upcycled style whilst maintaining a contemporary feel.
Wonderful staff who were very polite and seemed overly skilled in what they do. even though I came like 2 minutes before closing they still were happy to take my order and the bar lady and i had a lovely chat whilst waiting for my takeaway order which made the time fly by.
I had the dirty salad with chicken bacon and halloumi and gucamole. wow what a amazing salad. I only wish they were open for more days and longer hours as they currently open Thursday Friday and saturday and close early because of their license.
PLEASE NEWPORT COUNCIL GIVE THEM A LONGER LICENSE.
oh yeah I loved the way they turned a negative into a positive because they didn't have a big enough box for my food so put it in a few smaller boxes and gave me a complimentary beer for that fact.
Can't fault them and would thoroughly recommend to all.

Brought my friend to Meat to cheer her up! And it sure did the trick! I myself am a meat eater and she is a veggie and nothing was too much for the staff!! I had the ‘king is deaf’ burger a fantastic burger with PB&J !!! Wow what a combo and my friend had the bean burger!! Everything tasted amazing and Dan who served us was very attentive to our needs.
