I don’t normally write reviews but on this occasion it’s well deserved. Being Gluten and lactose intolerant, I normally dread meals out, especially a tasting menu. However, the Newport asked about my allergies and worked around them, providing me with outstanding dishes. Highly recommend, staff are lovely and very knowledgeable about their products. Best meal in years, thanks Newport Hotel.
Can't recommend this place enough. Had an overnight stay and the 5 course tasting menu last Saturday. Every course was excellent and really enjoyed the atmosphere in the bar after our meal. Travelled up from Ayrshire and will come back. Great views, room and the food is excellent. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. Cheers
Had an amazing meal here today with the family! We had the taster menu which was so fab! Even the children’s meal was great there favourite being the chocolate brownie with marshmallows! Service was also top notch! I was a little worried as I don’t like seafood but I had my meal tailored and had vegetarian options instead which were amazing! Can’t wait to come back!
On our way home from another amazing meal at the Newport Restaurant. We had the set tasting menu and the wine flyte. Meal brilliant, drinks very complimenting and the staff knowledgable and attentive. We will definitely return for our next special occasion, and would recommend to everyone who has a love of good food and drink
This was our first visit to the Newport Restaurant to celebrate my partners 50th birthday. We were expecting good food and we weren’t disappointed. I won’t go on about it but WOW. The food was outstanding. Jamie Scott deserves the accolades he’s received. This is a charming, unpretentious restaurant and bar that serves incredible food. It’s also worth mentioning the friendly and knowledgable staff who made the whole experience an absolute pleasure. We will be back soon.
Stunning location, amazing food in a the six course tasting menu and a friendly efficient team from the dining room to the bar made our eveing a great experience. The extra course of the most unique Cheese Toastie was delicious. Make sure and try the Treacle and Ale bread too. The best sausages I have ever tasted along with perfect poached egg made breakfast an equally enjoyable experience. If you can't make it Newport-on-Tay for dinner, go for brunch !
Outstanding food, hospitality, friendliness and not forgetting the highest of class of food. Been here now three times on our Wedding Anniversary celebrations meal. Michelin award is there for the taking. Hugely recommended.
Not often the food matches the location and view. But at The Newport, the food certainly gives the glorious vista a run for its money. Great ingredients beautifully cooked. Loved the little Asian touches although I could handle more heat in the Nahm Jim! Hope the locals know what a gem they have and those Dundonians cross the bridge lots.
Fantastic tasting menu with matching wine flight. Absolutely recommend. Staff were lovely and friendly too.

Wow I can not say enough good things about this place. We had the the taster menu with pairing wines which was phenomenal and stayed in a brilliant spacious room. The staff were so friendly and made our night so memorable thank you
No place has ever deserved 5 stars more.
Everything about this place is phenominal, from the knowledge and attention of our servers - Daisy and Cheska - to the carefully crafted, delicious food!
They care so much about you having a good experience, they'll go out of their way to give you one, especially if you're celebrating a special occasion.
I HIGHLY recommend to anyone who wants to treat themselves to a once-in-a-lifetime dinner.
Had a lovely lunch 5 course tasting menu. Excellent dishes using local ingredients..and great service. Really loved the dining room views and decor. The rhubarb and custard mocktail was the best I have had. Lots of thinking goes into this venue, the food and presentation.
Tayside's Best Restaurant! A memorable feast. 8 courses and wine flight is sensational. Sublime!

Beautiful view on Loch Tay. Professional service. Friendly staff. Fresh food. Very good dishes. We had the 5 courses menu. Every course was tasteful.
Outstanding. We had the 6 course tasting menu. It was brilliant. Everything was delicious and well presented. They describe each meal as it comes out, the service was wonderful. Also, my partner has an egg allergy and they catered for her perfectly, with tweaks along the way.
We enjoyed a meal and an overnight stay here recently. The food was sublime and I particularly recall a salt cod with an onion velouté. We had the five course tasting menu and can heartily recommend it. Local produce beautifully prepared. I must also praise the young staff for their professional service.
This was our first time dining at Newport Restaurant and what a wonderful experience it was too. The setting on the Tay is fantastic with beautiful view over the Dundee City skyline. We dined a Friday evening and had the Tasting Menu. This is by far my preferred way to enjoy a meal, so many flavours and so many experiences in one meal. The team were so professional and friendly, it felt very much like we were regulars at the Restaurant. They also offer a children's menu and hope to come for lunch with them some time. A big thanks to Jamie and his brilliant team for making it an unforgettable evening.
We had the 8 course tasting menu matched with the wine flight, different wines for different courses (not a wine per course). Every single course was magnificent and the wines matched perfectly. It’s certainly not a cheap evening, but for fine dining it doesn’t really get any better.
Superb 7 course tasting menu. I had the meat version and my wife the vegetarian one. She felt it was a little repetitive for her, with several courses duplicating flavours.
The only issue for us was it took over 3 and a half hours, which was longer than expected, with quite a lot of waiting.
Also, we were seated upstairs at first which was packed with s low ceiling and no air flow, so we felt uncomfortable. We asked and were moved downstairs which was much better.
Overall though a real treat!
The sparkling Sunday lunch ( three courses and generous bread and potato skin and dip starter for £35 ) enough variety and interesting food on small menu. The view is stunning and it would be well worth booking a window table. Enjoyed the lunch though missing a little out on atmosphere While I like to able to hear myself talk I don’t want to be able to hear the other tables talk too. Just a bit stilted. Would definitely recommend
