Just spent a long weekend here. Absolutely amazing place. The room was a good size and comfy and warm. The grub and beer were top knotch and brilliantly priced. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Really liked the fact I could order a packed lunch for the next days activities and collect it around breakfast time. Add that to being surrounded by mountains and it’s just about perfect. Thank you to all staff for such an amazing stay. We will be back.
Beautifully placed Swinside Inn, in the lovely Newlands Valley nr Keswick. Fabulous views overlooking the fells. Friendly staff, comfortable surroundings, excellent food. All positive points of view. Definitely a visit not to be missed.
We have just returned home from a two night stay at the swinside with our dog Rufus and had a wonderful weekend. The staff, landlord and all involved at the swinside were just lovely and welcoming and the food, ale and accommodation was superb.
I would highly recommend this place to anyone and we will be going back very soon.
Thanks again
Lovely meal once again we had a light bite fish and home made chips well worth a visit and value for money this will be out new eating place from now on the light bite wasn't small we couldn't eat pudding so will call back through the week for a pudding !!
Great hidden gem of a inn, stayed for 3 nights , breakfast is brill! Rooms are quite adequate and comfy . Staff very friendly and most of all my favourite bit is they welcome dogs
Swinside is one of our favourites, it's about halfway on a great walk and at this time of year with the sunshine it has a terrific beer garden with views over Newlands towards Causey Pike and Barrow. The food here is always good and likewise the beer especially for me as a Theakston fan
Cracking pub stayed over in the motorhome...good drink good food and helpful staff...I'll be back
Finally got to have a 2 night stay, after lots of daytime visits, and everything was fab. Ben & the team made us and Squaddie our dog very welcome. What can be better than waking up on a sunny morning looking across the Newlands Valley to Causey Pike & Barrow . Breakfast sets you up for a days walking (or chilling) with the lunch & evening menu's having good choice and all the food is freshly prepared. Lite bite menu too if like me you're appetite is not big. Can't wait to stay again.
Great pub for a pint when coming off the fella, good fire and dog friendly...lovely pub
friendly staff great food dog friendly fantastce views would recommend
Popped in for a post walk pint as we always do when in the Newlands area. Like the new bar area and a good selection of cask ales. Got to be one of the best views from a pub in Lakeland.
The best! Thank you Jill and family for your hospitality. Everything was great and so beautiful. I had a wonderful experience.
A great place. Great staff and gorgeous location. Food and real ale to die for
Lovely stay at Swinside Inn last night, stayed in our motor home in the car park..Lovely staff, drinks and food, and live singer was fab....would definitely recommend a stay
Great place in a wonderful location. Happy staff, open fire, good coffee and beer
I stumbled across this place by accident whilst out walking. Lovely pub, friendly staff and great food. I can't review the beer as I didn't have any but I didn't hear anyone complaining.
Beautiful location, with views to die for from the beer garden.
Stopped for a few drinks and something to eat to warm us up from our wet and windy day out at catbells.
Drinks were reasonably priced, as was the food.
We had the fungi pizza, which was lovely, and the steak and ale pie with chips, steak pie was great but the chips came out hard, but was replaced with a freshly cooked batch in good time.
Well worth a visit, if your in the area.
Cant comment on the accommodation as we didn't stay.
Family evening meal. Steak and Ale Pie = delicious. Kids were very happy with their meals. Wild Mushroom & Rocket pizza = very tasty.
Table service was very good. Beautiful old Inn. Highly recommend.
Traditional pub with stunning views, good beer garden. Not a huge selection of beers or local ales which was a little disappointing. However, food was very good.
We had an absolutely lovely roast dinner here 😄
The staff were really kind and accommodating. They had a couple of alcohol free beers on offer, and a vegan roast option (that was the vegetarian one but without the Yorkshire pudding. It would be really nice if they could do a Yorkshire pudding in future, or add a bit more veg or roasties to make up for it)
The soup of the day was phenomenal. Best bit of the meal. Nut roast was also surprisingly good, more flavourful and interesting than most. Will love to return again
A lovely pub and we ate well on two occassions. They seem to however have different chefs on different days. One day we came and ate the Steak and Ale Pie and it was out of this world. The best crust, the most flavourful beef and unctious gravy, really rich and deep flavours. Maybe the best I have ever had. However, when we went back a few days later we ordered it again but it was bland, underseasoned and nowhere near as flavourful. Even the crust was not as good. Quite disappointing. The service was very good on both occasions.
Went there with a large group and everyone was pleased. Excellent food with surprising choices, not just the boring ordinary menu. Perhaps the only criticism would be that the portions were on the huge side. Nice interior and well behaved guests made this a very nice evening overall.
Went twice for a meal and drinks while on holiday with the guys. Service was quick and cheery, the food and drinks were great and the views were lovely.
Give the barman a raise, fantastic bloke.
If you want, A pub in the middle of nowhere and outstanding natural beautiful views and services food,,,,, you've found it.
When you get here, whether you've walked miles (like we did) or drove..... before people start moaning on about prices,,,!!! Consider the logistics of getting the Beer & Food here and think about the outlook of the place.
If anyone start comparing this place with Wetherspoons and other's,,, Please 🙏 stay away and eat microwave meals elsewhere and leave traditional Great, English Pub's like this, to US and other customers who value English heritage and want more traditional pub's to stay open, especially the ones like this 'In The Middle of Nowhere' & open on a bank holiday coronation weekend 😊 - whilst we all have aday off, thank you to the staff who worked to keep this and others like open, for us to rest & relax.
Our second time here and it was just as great as the 1st. We arrived a little ahead of check in time and they let us have our room at that point. The food is amazing, be sure to work up an appetite walking the fells as the portions are big! The Swinside is a great base to explore the northern lakes
Thanks again for another great stay. We will see you again

Came in last minute for food after a long hike and we were welcomed and served very quickly, staff is very friendly and service was great. The prices bit high ( its an area thing) but food was so delicious and worth every penny!
Can't say enough about how good this place is. Well worth the exploration to get to it! Staff: Marvelous. Location: Fantastic. Overall: Superb! This my go-to place to stay when I'm next in the area.
Love this place. Wonderful views and nice beer. Let down this time as we booked on a Sunday for 7pm. Sunday menu is restricted as they do a roast. However, all the roasts had gone by this time (apart from veg option) as had 1 of the other options. Therefore not much to choose from. We all found something to eat but a bit disappointing.
