Everytime we visit Newcastle, I call to the Black Garter. The beer is always fresh and really reasonably priced. The bar is full of old regulars who will always chat with you. I've never had any bother from anyone there, very much the opposite.
My Fiancé left me there yesterday(in what she calls the man crèche!) whilst she shopped. I sat outside with my cool pint of Stones, under the umbrella shaded from the sun. I love sitting there watching the world go by.
The waitress asked if I'd like anything from the bar to save me losing my seat. I had 4 pints before my Fiancé returned. Great craik with the locals, great beer, all in all, a great watering hole!
I came from Japan and visited here 3 times during my staying in Newcastle. The quality of beers are so great, the staffs are really kind and friendly. You can watch football matches and horse races and also, you could enjoy Karaoke here.
I really love this place and, if I stay in Newcastle again, I would visit here. Thank you so much for giving me some great memories.

A great pub giving great service. Always a good pint and wine is better than normal house wine in more expensive bars. A definate thumbs up.

We had an awesome Saturday evening watching the rugby. we were especially impressed by the great value prices, which seemed to fluctuate with either the weather or the FTSE 100, we're not sure which. We're just left a bit confused wondering what one pint costs, if three pints cost £6.67. Bloody marvellous regardless!
First time in this bar in the 22 years I have lived in the UK. It had such a reputation for being rough as a chip. It can't be further from the truth. Amazing community of people who clearly have history together. The place is friendly, drinks are a good price. Staff friendly and happy. The entertainment was good. If your passing drop in.
Amazing friendly place, feels like family, I go there to do singing Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and never had any issues from the staff, they always helped me when I needed help, They’re Polite, Friendly and Lovely!’ Want a night out in a friendly environment? I recommend The Black Garter!! Keep it up
Wow what an amazing pub and staff nothing was too much trouble very attentive staff and efficient. We where up visiting friends ended up in for the night fantastic customers and entertainment would highly recommend if in the area you won't regret it.
Excellent place if you want a cheap pint and a laugh. Been in daytime and nighttime and enjoyed both.

Good place for karaoke, very cheap drinks, crowd is generally okay.
The place has a reputation for being a bit rough however you will get no trouble unless you're looking for it, noticed very few altercations here, many places are worse in this respect.
The crowd is very responsive to the karaoke singers, definitely give it a go if you like a good sing.

I visited here by myself and I felt very much like an outsider, which is understandable: this is a local's bar.
Karaoke was fun and the drinks cheap, the people can be quite rowdy.
As a football fan this is a fantastic spot pints are just over 3 quid and the atmosphere is always great. Make a point of visiting everytime we travel to Newcastle

Love this little place in the centre of Newcastle. 2 minute metro walk from monument metro station and close to local bus services. You get a nice drink from the black garter and is at a really reasonable price. They sell food here but I have never ate here yet. Its quite a popular little pub situated on the outskirts of the grainger Market. It has a great atmosphere and does a great little karaoke on the night time. The black garter is close to other pubs and plenty of places to eat,Although as I've said the black garter also serves food.it is also close to shops and eldon square. You can drink outside as it has a nice little seating area outside. It is also wheelchair accessible and also has accessible toilets x
Booked table to watch nufc v psg champions league match, the service was top rank and the staff were great. The atmosphere of the bar was the best I've seen in Newcastle.

No messing around or you’ll get it from the landlady - a wee Yorkshire lass that can deal with the most boisterous customers! Weekends great evenings with Ophelia Balls and DJ Chris Parker.
