Historic and traditional pub with a good selection of beers and a tiny beer garden overlooking the high level bridge.
Great pub. Very busy and understandably so. Some great beers and a lovely building to have a drink in.
A wonderful little find a short distance from the Riverside and Newcastle Central Station.
Very busy bar, standing room only for us. Fabulous atmosphere offering a wide range of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including some local brews.
The toilets are located downstairs.
If you like stained glass, do have a look around at the scenes depicting the traditional trade of the area. Directly opposite, you'll find Newcastle Keep and part of the old castle walls, castle well, and the Castle Stairs. I suspect the way to do the stairs is down and not up as we did!!
Best Guinness in Newcastle. Hands down.
Visited The Dubliner, Crown Posada, Newcastle Irish Centre and Bridge Tavern. Nothing came close to this. Beautiful. Please contact me for further review.
Good atmosphere in the pub too, coat hooks under the bar, winning! Will return soon. I can't stress how good the Guinness was!
This is a pub that was in the tv series " Vera." (Many years ago). We are Vera fans, and when we realised this was " it," we were chuffed. It's a lovely old-fashioned cosy pub. We watched Sherlock playing on tv and had a pleasant evening.
Great pub. Lovely building to sit in for some drinks and a good selection of beers available. Well situated to visit between Newcastle and the Railway Quarter of Gateshead.
A lovely classic pub, with a great selection of real ales.
The only issue was the downstairs toilets (very smelly).
Also not a sports fan bar with small and few tv's which didn't have Sky Sports.
Would happily pop in for ales again, when in Newcastle 🤣
Great spot for the quick pint, they don’t make pubs like this anymore
Short visit to one of my favourite bars where I spent most weekends for many years.
Lovely warm and cosy on freezing cold night, beer choice and quality was spot on, as was the service.
Great to see Simon too 😁
Would deffo recommend x
The Bridge Hotel is a very striking building close by the Castle; it was just a short walk from where we were staying and easy to find.
We visited the Bridge Hotel last week to go to the Singers and Musicians Night at the Folk Cub which takes place in an upstairs room.
What a great atmosphere when we walked into the pub-it was absolutely buzzing and packed - exactly how you want a pub to be!
That said, we were served quickly at the bar; the staff all friendly and attentive.
Great choice of beers available together with all the usual non-alcoholic drinks such as J2O.
I loved the beautiful stained glass Windows showing what I believe to be local scenes.
Well worth a visit if you enjoy a pub with a great atmosphere and good choice of beer; especially recommended if you enjoy Folk music and would like to visit the second oldest Folk Club in the country (Mondays).
