Stumbled across this little gem today and wow. As soon as I entered, Hygge sprung to mind. I was so pleased that the menu was not only interesting, but healthy too. The service was impeccable and the food to die for. I can't wait to come back with some friends.
I made my first visit for lunch today and I was very impresses!
A lovely little place that feels like eating in a little cottage kitchen with a wood burner warming the place. Food was excellent and very reasonably priced..I will be back again
Great little hidden gem. Have been eating lunches here off and on for a few year and have never had a bad meal.
Quirky whilst not taking its self seriously a great relaxed atmosphere to make you welcome. Food is simple but to die for! adding complex flavours in the background as unexpected flavours keep you wanting another mouthful.
Lovely place very good quality good and trendy decor. Great service and hope it does well. Maybe should have a bigger selection of cold drinks
One of my favourite places for lunch. The food is always so tasty and fresh. I'm always looking for an excuse to go back. Definitely recommended to anyone who loves and appreciates good food!
Really lovely, great food and an inspiring little restaurant. Loved it. Xxx
Simplemente increíble. Sabores intensos y de temporada. Totalmente recomendable.
Well worth my pilgrimage from Nottingham. Special things happening here.
Simple food for grown up palates. It's just perfect.
Excellent food in a rather cool location. Wish I lived closer!
Completely disagree with the comment below, we visited for the first time today and will definitely be back! Great service and beautiful fresh food prepared right in front of you. Complete hidden gem. X
Simply delicious food, a totally unique space and wonderful friendly service! We go regularly to the cookhouse and will continue to do so!
My husband & I went here yesterday ..... it is fab & we are very much looking forward to a return visit very soon....... beautiful home cooked fresh food ...... Delisious 😁😁
Great food great place definately going back! 5 stars
Only had cake and coffee, but lovely and a great place too.
I have been to this lovely restaurant twice and so my photos were from both of the visits. First time I came was back in 2021 and the second time was last Saturday. Both times we came for dinner so can't comment on their daytime menu.
I was visiting my friend in Newcastle for the weekend and she recommended this place for us to try together as she had already been multiple times and had thought the food and overall experience was great. I know they were on the Michelin guide a few years in a roll so I was really looking forward to trying it out. My first time there was absolutely fantastic, great experience all the way from greeting at the reception to sitting down, ordering and paying. Staff members were very friendly and nice, took the time to explain the menu to us.
On the first visit, we had the shrimp salad as a starter and then for mains we ordered the lamb chop with cous cous and mussels with a side of potatoes. The salad was refreshing and a great way to stimulate our appetites. The lamb was absolutely fantastic, so savoury and not gamey at all.
Second visit we had the brown shrimp salad with blood orange which was once again super refreshing and stimulating. Mains we went with roast pork shoulder and braised is cheeks. The pork shoulder was absolutely delightful, crunchy crackling and tender meat. The apple sauce and potatoes were such a great complement to the meat and really pleasant. The ox cheeks were also soft and tender, particularly enjoyed the beetroot on the side with their dill pesto, so savoury. We enjoyed both but we agreed the pork was the highlight. For dessert we ordered the earl grey poached pear with chocolate and walnut ganache which was lovely. Such an interesting combination of flavours yet they somehow worked. That tea flavour coming through in your month balancing with the rich dark chocolate ganache made it so moreish and easy to eat. Absolutely not too sweet and it's just a light dessert to nicely wrap up our dinner.
On both times we thoroughly enjoyed our visits there and I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for good restaurants in Newcastle. They change menus regularly so you can always get excited for what they will cook on the day. I am already looking forward to coming back one day!
A late posting of a Saturday lunch from September. Have been previously for dinner and the lunch time service and quality was just as good. Informal and unpretentious in the most stylish way... Absolutely recommend if you are looking to eat in the ouseburn.
Best service I've experienced 10/10. Food exceptional sooo delicious. The portion size was perfect for us, not too little that you felt like you hadn't had enough but at the same time we had 3 excellent courses and left without feeling we needed to roll out of the door.
the food here is absolutely gorgeous - i’ve been following Cookhouse Ana for a really long time on instagram and know they change their menu regularly, but the one I happened to try was amazing. I would definitely love to go back soon, the mains, the sides, the cocktails, everything was fantastic; the atmosphere was also friendly, quiet, and relaxing, perfect for a relaxed dinner with a friend or a partner
Just really good food without the pretence, nothing to hide behind cooked and served by people who really care.
We were lucky - we ate in the outside area and the weather was just perfect. The food was outstanding and the service was great. We were a party of 7 and the food came with perfect timing and was all seasonal and delicious. Will definitely return 😋
Amazing amazing amazing. The food is incredible I cannot recommend the cheese donuts highly enough. The cocktails are quirky and fun. The staff are friendly, attentive and warm. Beautiful atmosphere. Just such a fantastic restaurant. Would go back again and again
Finally made it to Cookhouse! Food did not disappoint - amazing selection of drinks too. I believe they brew and ferment a lot of these themselves which is super cool...
Highly recommend the tempura Cauliflower with the curry sauce and the pickles were awesome!! Didn't realise we got bread and butter so we ended up being so full and didn't have room for dessert which all looked delicious and fresh.
Location is great with outdoor seating on the terrace/outside when the weather is nice. Close to the quayside which is perfect for an after dinner stroll along the river.
Really enjoyed the food and I was also pleasantly surprised by the varied drink options!
As constructive criticism I would have appreciated a higher attention to detail with the tableware. Off the peg John Lewis plates and fairly standard quality cutlery let the food down. You guys are surrounded by at least 3 potteries within a 5min walk, it would be wonderful to celebrate local craft!
All in all great experience.
Been on our list for a while to try and did not disappoint. Loved the simplistic Scandinavian-inspired interior and relaxed vibe. The food was so beautifully presented with such depth of flavour. The trout with clam butter was divine and the mushrooms unbelievably good. Winner!
Wonderful meal here last night for my birthday. It was a glorious evening so sat in garden having aperitif and then went inside for meal. There is also a terrace upstairs at the back.. we wenre made to feel welcome by friendly staff and able to see into open kitchen where it seemed very calm even though meals were constantly going out. 2 slices of their sourdough (on sale downstairs) and butter started meal. My starter of the asparagus with egg was delicious as was his crispy mushrooms with nduja sauce so waitress brought an extra plate so we could share. My roast cauliflower with bean mash rich and tasty and he enjoyed his confit chicken thigh with more asparagus. We shared a cheese board with the most amazing crackers (on sale downstairs) and pannacotta. Also had a nice rosé wine. Bill with service charge came to £164.
Great food, very nice staff, definitely worth going
Fantastic experience! Had a bunch of starters and deserts as the lunch menu is less generous than the dinner one. However, neither disappointed, each plate was very delicious and flavourful! The tempura cauliflower in particular was out of this world and the Kamboucha pear were my favorites but all dishes were brilliant!
Staff is very friendly and nice, location is secluded by the park. Couldn’t recommend this place enough! Book well in advance though, it’s hard to get a spot. No wonder why :)
P.S. They also have a nice deli by the entrance to shop some of their goodies!
Just popped in for a little bite to eat and a drink and had a lovely time. Lots of nice pickled and smoked things, house made vermouth and a decent orange wine. Staff were all really friendly and the place itself is settled in a great spot. I would imagine it’s super fun when the weather is nice and sunny
Went to Cook House for a date night with my husband and can't wait to go again! Everything from start to finish was stunning! Lovely staff and atmosphere, food is exceptional! Don't hesitate, book a table now!
The food here just seems to achieve even higher standards with every visit, not only in terms of the inventiveness of Anna the chef but also the flavours and the whole experience. Friendly, knowledgeable staff enhance the place as only people who care about what they do can.
Love this place for brunch, lunch or dinner. Really delicious and well thought out menu and the staff are so lovely and attentive (helping with the pram, giving us plenty of space and being so welcoming towards my toddler). Thank you for a lovely experience every time!
Lovely relaxed setting and atmosphere. We sat in the early September sun, were waited on by friendly staff, and the food was deceptively simple and utterly delicious. Felt like a home cooked meal by someone who loves food. I love a restaurant where you feel the passion for the food.
Plenty of choice for omnivores and vegetarians/vegans. A great meal with friends.
Cracking brekkie! Been wanting to go for ages and had high expectations, it didn’t disappoint. Really tasty and interesting menu with a brilliant bacon sarnie for the less adventurous. Friendly staff and lovely decor. Top coffee too, will deffo be back for dinner one day
