Came during the happy hour at 4:30pm. Drinks were a great price and the portions were decent. The gamberoni Al aglio were the best dish of the night. So flavorful and a great size, it’s a must order. I had the Piemontese risotto which was delicious. The pesto tagliatelle and lasagne was amazing as well. Highly recommend and will be back soon. Lots of gluten free options too
Absolutely fantastic Italian.
The calzone rustica was the best calzone I've ever had. Properly full, not the usual folded over but half of it is air when you cut into it.
Daughter had an adult margarita and polished it off completely much to my disappointment!
Wife had a chicken salad which was also delicious.
For desserts we had a tiramasu, sticky toffee pudding and profiteroles. These are sizeable desserts and honesty could be shared between 2!
Staff were extremely friendly and service was great. Would absolutely go back again.
The building interior itself is beautiful with intricate tiling throughout, however it did create quite an acoustic chamber as the restaurant filled up.
My three weeks in Newcastle for an overseas immersion program were a rollercoaster, and I have to admit, the food scene in the UK wasn't exactly my cup of tea. Most of my meals consisted of either home-cooked dishes or quick bites from Greggs. However, amidst my culinary struggles, I stumbled upon a hidden gem of a restaurant that truly rescued my taste buds from despair. Not only was it surprisingly affordable, but the flavors were on a whole different level compared to my previous dining experiences in Newcastle. The menu offered a delightful array of options, and each dish I tried was a savory revelation. This restaurant became my sanctuary, providing a much-needed break from the monotony of my less-than-thrilling meals. It turned out to be the culinary highlight of my stay, proving that sometimes a single eatery can transform an otherwise challenging gastronomic adventure into a memorable and satisfying experience.
I was supposed to go for a meal with colleagues but unfortunately none of them felt up to it, but I really wanted to go anyway so I did on my own. The risotto and tirimasu were both amazing, probably nicer than ones I had in Italy. Really well priced too, well worth the stroll from my hotel.
Large Italian restaurant in the centre of Newcastle in a beautiful historic building. Food was good and well priced. My caprese salad was delicious, my vegetarian pizza had a nice crusty base and adequate topping. Hubby enjoyed his starter of scallops. Desserts were enjoyed by our friends who said they were very good. Fast, professional service. Good atmosphere.
Lovely atmosphere busy place but not crowded excellent food and lovey staff.
Excellent restaurant, can not recommend more, food is outstanding and the service is great, really friendly people.
First time we have tried this restaurant. Food was very good and piping hot. Service was quick and friendly.Prices were very reasonable. Two things we would advise. Book first. This is a very busy restaurant and we noticed people who hadn't booked we're turned away. The restaurant is very noisy, with lots of people in a small space and with a high ceiling. Quite difficult to have conversation. We probably will go back but we will look for a quieter night.
Went to Portofino to celebrate my 20th wedding anniversary, and even though it was my first time there this place didn't disappoint.
The wine was great (rosè zinfandel) the food was even greater and we had all three courses.
I am that impressed I'd like to comeback with family and friends.
It was a lovely place to eat, gorgeous interior and staff were so attentive - food tasty and good for the price. Solid level of chatter - you know when the chatter is ambient and the lighting is low? Great. The food was pleasant and I’d recommend it, would go again, just honest tasty food, not fine dining, but it was tasty comfort food, I really enjoyed my time at this restaurant.
Great buzz of atmosphere when you walk in. Attentive and professional staff. Good varied choices on the menu. Served at the right pace. Tremendous food. Definitely will go back. Try it.

Nine of us went on a Wednesday evening to give a send off to a colleague. The place was super packed despite not being the weekend which was a very positive aspect for us. I had pasta which was very good. Whereas my colleges who had pizzas weren't really impressed though. Others who had different varied of pastas felt it was good. So I strongly recommend pasta over pizzas. The staff were friendly and always showed happy faces to serve us. I would definitely visit the place once again.
Food was delicious
Had a set menu when we went still plenty to choose from and staff were very polite and welcoming
Always fantastic and quick service when we come here. Food is just delicious and really reasonably priced. The decor reminds me of many an Italian restaurant from back in the day. Lovely venue.
A superbly designed restaurant offering a superb Italian atmosphere to enjoy food and wine. Impeccable service by staff. Nice menu covering all Italian basics with some intriguing dishes of the day showcased on chalk boards. Good list of Italian wines. Portions normal. Prices good value. Risotto good. Stake and chicken Diane good meats average sauce. Spaghetti Bolognese ok. Meatballs (starters) superb. Deserts ok. In general, food lacking a bit on taste but definitely worth a visit for the vibe and excellent service.
Lovely restaurant and staff, authentic food at reasonable prices - as good as I've enjoyed in Milan or Rome. Highly recommend but best to pre book due to it's (deserved) popularity
If you're looking for great food, friendly service, a beautiful interior and reasonable prices then you have to try here! I had the potato skins as a starter, the Luca with Linguine and Tirramasu for dessert. It was all really delicious and top quality authentic Italian food. 10/10 recommended and would 100% go again.
