The quality of food is undeniable. The chicken was cooked to perfection, almost melting in my mouth, same for the cod. Liked the soup and enjoyed the chocolate dessert. However, I have to say that for the amount of money we paid I would expect a bit better taste wise. Portions were a bit on the small side (we went during Restaurant Week) and nothing really stood out. We sat close to the window and there was a strong light coming towards us which affected negatively the already bright ambiance. Service was exceptional and our waiter was always friendly, approachable and smiling. With that being said, if you like simple british cuisine that's well cooked this might be the place for you.
We opted for the set menu at £32 for three courses. All three were delightful. The parsnip pakoras were crisp, served on a bed of spicy green chutney. The main roast chicken was wonderfully tender and the side of maple syrup and miso roasted root vegetables was very moreish. The pistachio and blood orange sponge nicely rounded off the meal. Cocktails at £15 for two went down well. The waiting staff were attentive and friendly during the whole evening. We went for the early sitting and the restaurant was half full but it was filling up by the time we left.
My daughter chose Dobson & Parnell for her 18th birthday family dinner.
What a great intimate place. Just a stones throw from the busy Quayside, it's easy to miss this gem.
We chose the classic 7 course taster menu.
The presentation was beautiful. Each course was a delight. The serving staff explained the contents of each dish as each course was presented.
It was an amazing experience.
The staff were attentive without being overbearing.
My daughter was given a glass of wine when staff asked whose 18th birthday it was when we arrived.
We even scored for some cocktail cherries! Our children were surprised at how good they tasted. The bar overheard & sent over a plate.
The sous chef visited the table, after our meal, as I had mentioned my daughter had finished her catering course at college & moving off to the lakes to start her career.
He was very interested in what my daughter was saying. We also discussed the menu & our highlights.
I honestly cannot recommend this place enough. It truly is a dining experience.
Thank you all for a special night.
I had a lovely dining experience at this place. Absolutely amazing service, they hang your coat for you, come to ask how you enjoy your meal very often, and with a very polite and friendly attitude. The price for the set meal is affordable, and the quality of the food is totally worth it. I highly recommend to anyone who wants to go on a date or hang out with friends for a special occasion to come to this place, at least the experience I had is pretty good.

Excellent overall. We each had 3 courses from the set menu plus the matching wines, which were all great. Food was top notch, service was nice and attentive without being bothersome, and I’d say it was good value too considering the amount we ate and drank, and the quality.
Absolutely stunning venue, service and food. The attention to detail in every single dish, from the complementary bread & small taster to the main event, is absolutely flawless. Staff were attentive without being overbearing and service was quick. Cannot wait to return to try future menus.
My recent birthday celebration was an unforgettable experience that exceeded all expectations. The thoughtful surprise orchestrated by my girlfriend left me grinning from ear to ear. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant, we were treated with utmost care and attention.
The tasting menu with wine pairing was a masterpiece. The beetroot tartare with pine and shallot, accompanied by the smoked cods roe gougere, showcased a harmonious blend of flavors. The Wye Valley asparagus, served with wild garlic and potato cream, was a testament to the use of fresh, seasonal ingredients.
However, the three dishes that really stood out to me:
- Chalk stream trout, complemented by dill and mint aguachile, was a standout dish that delighted the palate.
- Yorkshire lamb, enhanced by red pepper, celeriac, and pickled ginger, showcased the chef's masterful preparation and attention to detail.
- Mango white chocolate cremeux with toasted coconut provided a sweet conclusion to the meal.
Each course was expertly paired with wines that elevated the dining experience to new heights.
The service was exceptional. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable, and made us feel like honored guests. Their guidance throughout the evening added a personal touch and enhanced the overall experience.
My birthday celebration was a true culinary adventure. The exquisite food, coupled with the impeccable service, made it an evening to remember. I wholeheartedly recommend Dobson & Parnell to anyone seeking a remarkable dining experience.
Apologies, not the best photos. But you get the idea.
A great meal, we had the set menu which was excellent value for money. Service was exemplary and staff were attentive but not overly so. Must come back to try the tasting menu one day.
Enjoyed every part of my 5 course tasting menu (with allll the extra cheese). They did so well accommodating my gluten free diet/coeliac disease and I didn't felt the adapted dishes were any less because of that. Gluten free bread was okay but i feel like some progress could be made in that department. That aside, everything was superb. Thank you we'll be back!
Dobson and Parnell is a stunning restaurant, the interior design of this restaurant is simply breathtaking, the banquette seating with glass partitions provides a sense of intimacy. This attention to detail creates an atmosphere that is both inviting and refined.
The food at Dobson and Parnell is truly exceptional. Every dish is carefully crafted and prepared with the finest ingredients. The menu features a range of options. Each dish is beautifully presented and bursting with flavour.
The service at Dobson and Parnell is also perfect. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive, ensuring that every guest has a memorable dining experience. They go above and beyond to make sure that every need is met, without ever feeling intrusive.
Overall, Dobson and Parnell is a fantastic restaurant that offers a truly special dining experience. With its stunning interior design, exceptional food, and top-notch service, it's no wonder that this restaurant has earned a 5-star review.
We had the 7 course tasting menu which from start to finish was very good. Hubby had the wine flight too which was good value and enhanced the food. My favourite was the torched salmon dish. I forgot photos of the cheese and 2 desserts!
The service here was excellent & we enjoyed the vibes of the restaurant. I also really liked the cocktails. The food was fine. Which is not really a compliment when you're talking about a high end tasting menu. Nothing was terrible, but nothing was in any way remarkable either.
Such good food. Staff were very friendly and overall had a lovely dinner. Just to note, there are some times (Saturday dinner for one) where you can only get the tasting menu (it's definitely worth doing though!) The portion sizes could be a little bigger too if you've got a big appetite but it was perfect for us.
Second time here having the tasting menu. Impeccable service, exquisite food and very good value. We will be back soon!!
5 of us visited for a birthday celebration, the decor is lovely with a nice welcoming ambience too. We had one person who was vegetarian and gluten free and they were able to choose a dish from each course from the set menu - most unusual that they have this opportunity! The fish options were also delicious.
Childrens menu was well balanced between predictable (in a good way) options and also incorporated some of the main menu options too. The chips were absolutely outstanding. Mocktails were well received by the children.
The staff were helpful and very accommodating for dietary requirements.
It's actually very reasonably priced considering the quality, presentation and taste of dishes.
Well that was an experience!
The food here is absolutely fantastic and the service from Adam was second to none.
Really great time and the food is worth every penny. Wine is expensive which is a shame, however plenty of bars in the area.
Takes American Express.
Fabulous food, so so delicious and was absolutely phenomenal value for money. Drinks were superb and the staff were lovely, so friendly and professional. I really had a fantastic dinner and evening here. Will come back for definite when I'm next in Newcastle!!
