They have wide range of Sri Lankan food and spicy level. English and Sinhala speaking friendly staff. They were very helpful when selecting food from the menu. Setting is also decent and calm. They have cocktails and wines. Kottu is really nice and delicious. Lamprais is really authentic Sri Lankan taste.

One of the best Indian restaurant in Newcastle. Seabass fish fry is a must try item. Kingfish curry in coconut gravy is very delicious.
Ury Restaurant in Newcastle is a gem! The Lamb Curry with Poori is a must-try – absolutely delicious. The customer service is excellent, creating a warm atmosphere. It's a perfect place for Indian cuisine lovers, and I can't wait to go again. Highly recommended!
The atmosphere and seating is good. Service was on the spot. Food items were mostly good except the plain dosa I ordered. We ordered a queen's platter, prawn curry and biryani which were very good. Plain dosa, sambhar and chutney was not good at all.
We went to Ury’s for an early Valentine’s dinner accompanied by our infant. Though we’ve been regulars to this place, this was our first time since the new management took over. We were very impressed by the staff and the new menu. The V day seat decor was lovely. Many new additions to the menu. The food is authentic as usual but the presentation has improved manifold these days. The staff were lovely and so considerate that they even tiptoed around our table after our baby fell asleep so as not to wake her up as they served our food. The owner himself checked up on us to make sure everything was fine. Needless to say we’ll surely be visiting soon again
My taste buds went on an unforgettable journey at URY restaurant tonight! As a lover of authentic cuisine, I was thrilled to try their Sri Lankan dishes, and let me tell you, they did not disappoint. Each bite was bursting with flavor, from the aromatic spices to the perfect balance of heat. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, adding to the overall dining experience. The staff was friendly and attentive, ensuring our meal was nothing short of fantastic. If you're craving a culinary adventure, look no further than URY. Highly recommend!
The best Sri Lankan cuisine in Newcastle. A must go restaurant if you are craving for real Sri Lankan taste.
I would rate the chicken koththu 10/10.
The Sri Lankan lemonade was also wonderful.
Very friendly service.
Clean and calm atmosphere. Loved the background music.
Truely felt that Im in Sri Lanka for a moment.
Keep it up!
Really delicious and very authentic Sri Lankan and South Indian food.
Having been to Sri Lanka and having friends and family there, I know what the food is like. The food is as close as possible to the real thing and tastes great. The service is amazing with genuinely attentive and polite staff. The restaurant is tastefully decorated with a happy atmosphere. I will definitely be eating here again
Although the food menu isn't as extensive as other desi restaurants in the area, you will still be spoiled for choice as all the items are presented masterfully. Absolutely in love with the black chicken and all their roti options.
Service was excellent as well. We had a baby that decided not to be cooperative that night, and they kindly offered us a table in another room that was more spacious and allowed the baby to roam around and not disturb the other guests in the restaurant.
Although it's an older restaurant and the decor is not as glitzy as its neighbours, don't sleep on their offerings as it's got great food at a fair price.
The best Sri Lankan cuisine in Newcastle, with a peaceful atmosphere, provides an extra thrill. We ordered chicken Koththu and Chicken biryani, and they were delicious with authentic Sri Lankan spices. Rukman is a very professional guy who provides excellent customer service. Highly recommended !
We arranged (a small, 40
invitees ) 50th birthdays party yesterday!
The whole experience was amazing starting from planning to the execution on the day!
Rukman, the manager from Supasatra was very engaged and responsive whilst planning and on the day. Food was mainly vegetarian ( other than the starter chicken tikka dish ) which was delicious!
They created a lovely ambience and attending staff were very pleasant.
Highly recommended for special occasion small party for upto 40 invitees!
Well done all staff!
Excellent food, best curry I've had in a while. Staff and service was excellent. A little quiet when we went but started getting busier as we left. Definitely recommend.
Hidden gem in New Castle....
I wasn't expecting to find authentic Sri Lankan food in up North.
Very nice atmosphere with classic Sri Lankan tunes played in the background.
We ordered 'Lamprais' dutch inspired Sri Lankan spciy treat wrapped in a fresh banana leaf. The lamb curry was a show stopper and melting in the mouth.
Will definitely visit again and recommend to any one who wants to explore Sri Lankan cuisine.🫶🏾
Amazing food, so much flavour and lovely staff. Really enjoyed our time here!!!!!! The naan bread, the samosas and the prawn curry are amazing!!!!!!!!!!!
Absolutely delighted with the dining experience! The plain dosa, Sambhar, Chicken Kottu and parate were exceptional on Valentine's day. Highly satisfied with the overall experience. We definitely return for more culinary delights. Thank you URY.
Update June 2023
Travelling back home to the north of Scotland and had a stopover in Newcastle. A trip to the Ury was essential. Some redecoration happening, food STILL as good as ever, service STILL as good as ever. The Ury is a wonderful restaurant.
Update December 2022
We were travelling south from our home in the far north of Scotland and stayed overnight in Newcastle, so a booking was made for the Ury. The food was as good as ever and the service was superb as always. Undoubtedly a fantastic restaurant in all respects.
Original comment.
I have no idea why my reviews, several updates and many photographs of our visits to the Ury have "disappeared" but as a favourite restaurant of ours this is a shame. Although we live 6 + hours drive north in Aberdeenshire we always visit the URY when in Newcastle. It is a restaurant of the highest quality and the service matches the quality of the food. The staff are attentive but not intrusive, the food is authentic, beautifully cooked and superbly presented. Five stars in every respect.
What a pity we don't have a restaurant of this quality where we live!
