I loved the huge roast dinner ...the delicious pint of No6 ...and the lovely staff. Really worth a visit .... it is a proper pub. And the landlord is a highly amenable and delightfully gracious chap.

Popped in last Sunday after taking our Labrador for a local walk. Staff were fantastic, helpful and brought over a couple of dog biscuits. Sat next to a beautiful roaring fire... perfect. The light bite sandwiches were hearty fare and great value too! Will definitely be returning as my partner spotted someone being served a delicious looking Steak Pie. Would certainly recommend the place to anyone searching for a 'real' country Pub.

Visited for the first time today, on a friends recommendation. It's a great traditional pub with good beer and the food is excellent. One of the best Sunday lunches around.

A little hidden gem of a place. Based on the Dad's Army character, Captain Mainwaring, the place had memorabilia and murals of the cast of the TV show on the walls. The food was different and very good, and you'd better like large helpings!! There are many cosy rooms in which to eat and drink, connected by corridors and tight, winding stairs. The whole place is steeped with character. The pub itself is set in a quaint country area, surrounded by villages, woodland, streams and little bridges.

Lovely place, great friendly staff. Clean and home like feeling in all the snugs around the pub. I especially love the Dad's Army themed gents toilets! Vera Lynn playing in background. The food is well cooked, no issues.

Nice place to visit. It's a shame you can not book tables, so we had to wait a while, but that's ok if you're not driving. They have a good variety of rums you can try out. Staff are friendly enough some more than others. Food is good a bit pricey for what you get. It's worth going.

Fantastic pub: the best in Staffs - so far - in my opinion (tweed/ Land Rover/ horseracing image). I visited, from London, on 11th and 13th August 2023 - a real find. Friendly and reasonable prices. Can't wait to return at Christmas!

Busy for a Tuesday but served quickly. Chicken and mash was tasty but the fish and chips was more batter than fish. Service was friendly. The room was a little cold. We will be back.

Only went this time for beers. But will look at going for food very soon. Decent beers with a good choice and reasonably priced for today's beer market. Lovely friendly staff. And a lovely clean place. Watch this space for the food review soon.

Great food and lovely place. Just a shame they don't cater for kids in any way. No children's menu and no high chairs.

Lovely lunch at the Mainwaring Arms today. I had scampi and chips and the chips were delicious. A dreary day outside but the candles and log fires made it a cosy place to enjoy a meal. Recommended.

Hadn't been for a very long time due to the food being terrible but we decided to give it a try as someone said it had been taken over and updated. Well I can say that the food we had was superb and very tasty. Service excellent also. Will go again

Setting the scene: a sunny Sunday afternoon, bluebells all around, a babbling river, birds and a truly vintage and yet homely venue for a delicious lunch with local produce, delicious home-made cakes and warm fresh coffee. The service exudes all that one might expect from a place that has served people for centuries. A true delight and one of Staffordshire's must-visit eateries.
