It is now more than half a decade since John Campbell decided to leave the Vineyard at Stockcross and the 2 Michelin stars he had won there. He had a short stint helping the Dorchester group launch Coworth Park Hotel, winning a star in the process with his eponymous restaurant. Campbell subsequently parted companies with Coworth Park and heading into the sunset. That was until he was tempted out of his self-imposed retirement to open up the Woodspeen  in 2015. Unsurprisingly, with a chef of his immense talent at the helm, the restaurant quickly won a Michelin Star within a year of opening. Although Campbell was very much present when we visited, the day to day cooking is left to his head chef Peter Eaton who worked with him at Coworth Park.

Really beautiful modern interior and really generous portions for both the main and desserts. This Michelin star restaurant does not disappoint and all four of us patrons were thoroughly satisfied with our meals. All three courses were super tasty - I had the artichoke soup to start, the sea bass as my main and the coffee custard tart as my dessert. The wine list is quite extensive which is always helpful and the staff were very professional and friendly. Would definitely give this place another try (if I'm ever back in Newbury).

This is a beautifully designed restaurant in a quiet area just on the edge of Newbury. Ample parking and beautiful views of the valley beneath. Outdoor and indoor seating is available. The food is beautifully prepared and presented, just incredible. The service and relaxed atmosphere is wonderful. We visited for our anniversary and will definitely be returning for our next special occasion.

Amazing food and wonderful service. I could not recommend this restaurant highly enough! Everything that we ate or drank was fantastic, yet something we had never tasted before. A truly memorable meal in a lovely setting.

Fine dining at its best. Our neighbour recommended the Woodspeen for our anniversary dinner, and boy we were blown away. The food, service, ambience, and everything were perfect. We will definitely make this a regular restaurant to visit. Total perfection.

This restaurant excels at everything it seems..what a delight! - Beautiful indoor and outdoor seating - Perfect service, attentive but not too much - Small thoughtful extras - Excellent food - Very well priced Came in for lunch. Had the 3 course lunch menu for £38 (what a steal!). Lamb belly for starter was delicious, well seasoned and put together dish. Mains I tried the pork collar which was very good but the house made black pudding was phenomenal, best I have ever had..inventively spiced, wish I could buy a kilo to take home. Dessert was fig leaf panna cotta, light and flavoursome. Had a coffee with dessert which was also excellent. Its very clear that they try to do everything to the best standard possible. Wish I lived closer.

Nice restaurant in Oxfordshire. Great food, cool ambiance and friendly staff. If you go, you must order the cod with cabbage and the triple cooked chips. Everything else was yummy but those two were delicious! Oh and the bread and butter was amazing.

Beautiful space in lovely surroundings. The service was also excellent. The food would’ve been top notch if it it weren’t for the fact that nearly every dish had elements that were just far too salty.

Had a birthday celebration lunch for my friend. The cocktail is very nice. The team is young, professional and vivid. The food is outstanding. Definitely will come back ! They provide a small square of complimentary birthday cake to make a wish.

The Woodspeen is an amazing place to visit. Warm welcome, great environment and very knowledgeable staff. We've visited for no occasion, special birthdays, cookery school classes, chef's table and even had our wedding breakfast there. Always a great time, always amazing food and drink. Highly recommended.

We stopped for a Sunday roast while on our way to Wales. The food was amazing, also the kids menu had very good quality options and the kids loved it. Our roast was delicious but the best part was amazing atmosphere made possible by lovely and friends stuff. We would love to go back!
