Fantastic sushi (tempura prawn & crab). So tasty. Lovely staff. Very friendly and attentive. Lovely decor too: amazing original paintings, cherry blossoms...all felt very authentic. Highly recommended!
This is such a great place in Newbury. The sushi is a reasonable price, often cheaper than Waitrose. The restaurant is beautifully decorated by local artist Sian. Most of the servers are super friendly. We've never had a bad experience there. We usually go for the special because it gives us such a great variety. And we ALWAYS get the edamame.
Very relaxing atmosphere, fresh delicious food and a wide selection. Polite servers, can’t ask for much else. Will be returning!
Really lovely sushi restaurant. Wide variety of sushi on the menu. Kids menu is great and we then bought the sharing platter and a few other plates to share across the family.
Great quality ingredients and wonderful staff. The kids love watching the chefs make the food at the back between courses. Thoroughly recommend
Such a lovely place. We went here on a whim and were so pleasantly surprised by how nice it was! Try the "chef surprise me" platter - we loved it so much we ordered 2 and both were different each time. A perfect way to try new flavours, and it's affordable too!

We really should visit more often. Came for anniversary dinner, and the staff were so sweet. Service is excellent.
Food is always amazing, we tell them what we like and they 'chef surprise' us.
The whole food experience is great (don't be scared if you haven't tried here before, they'll help you), but it was also rather fitting to have the late 80's music playing on this particular occasion. I felt like you'd grabbed my retro playlist!
Sat in the window watching the passers by, but there are also more private tables behind. And outside tables in the summer.
Its not the cheapest place ever, you can't use tesco vouchers for example, but we don't think they've put their prices up for a long time, and their ngredients aren't cheap. But value for money, yes, again, excellent.

2022...We're always delighted at Sushi Maki with the choice and quality of the food, friendly service and the restaurant itself is sweet, even better now in the larger premises. I often ask the restaurant to help me choose, and they always seem happy to help, sometimes even creating something just for me, without charging extra. That said, the menus are clear, with plenty of choices with pictures so you don't have to think too hard to understand them. Still our favourite place for a treat.. Thank you chef and team.

Lots of different vegan/vegetarian options, particularly liked the crunchy veggie rolls with tofu. So good we ordered more.
The edamame beans were also very good, served slightly warm with extra salt.
Great wine selection too.
I have been coming here with a friend, infrequently, but we always say how delicious the food is. The Temaki were just incredible!
I have to remind myself to meet up with my mate more so we get to eat here more.

My favourite sushi restaurant in Newbury. Maybe even my favourite Newbury restaurant? The sushi is great quality and there's a large selection of dishes, plus they cater extremely well for children. In fact I love the children's menu options almost as much as the sushi!
Regularly drive 2 hours just to have sushi here. Would highly recommend.
