I am writing this review sitting outside listening to Lee Muldoon from the X Factor with my good lady and a glass of red wine. The Barley Mow was discovered purely by chance. Due to attend a wedding at Brownsover Hall on the Saturday we were due to park our caravan in the grounds of the hall. A week before we went to check where we were to set up to be told that we couldn't after all camp in the grounds. Well.... That caused a problem so we scoured the internet and found the Barley Mow for a drink and to gather our thoughts. The Landlord Simon overheard our conversation about our dilemma and sorted us with a pitch for the weekend By the canal.... They have been amazing. Kelly even gave me a lift to the hall after no taxis were available. Wow. They are the best hosts and we have made a bank holiday out of it and stayed two more nights. Great pub, great food, great hosts. Will visit again many more times I am sure. We found a proper gem in this place.....

We had a lovely time celebrating. Thankyou so much to Kelly for everything, you were so helpful and lovely and made our daughters day really special. Hope to come back again soon!! :)

Stayed overnight in our Motorhome on Saturday 8th July 2017, the Owners of the pub Simon and Kerry were so welcoming, the choice and quality of the real ales was excellent, all the staff were very professional and the inside and outside of the pub is perfect for enjoyment and relaxation, we will definitely be returning.

Our last stop before we hand the boat back to Willow Wren boats, the service was 5* the moment we walked through the door and every step of the way from ordering food to eating food. I fully recommend the food here along with a nice pint or your favourite drink. They are dog friendly which we needed as Ted doesn’t like being left on the boat. Will definitely be coming back again. The Heron and Grantham crews. 19/10/23

What a great little place to eat. It’s right on the canal and having phoned ahead and spoken to Richard (very helpful) we we allowed to stay overnight in our motorhome. We met friends and booked a table for dinner. The food was really delicious and the atmosphere was very friendly. I would certainly use this pub again if in the area.We didn’t use the rooms so can’t comment.

Right by the canal very dog-friendly pub landlord 👌 friendly. Pool table, football on screen if you want it. Overall nice location good enough for a nip in a pint on your walk from the canal.

Not the smartest of pubs but so very friendly. Landlord and landlady very welcoming and the service from the staff is brilliant. Had ham, egg and chips, which was well cooked. Waitress kept coming back to ask if everything OK and followed up asking if I wanted a dessert - excellent service - only downside is the toilets - they need upgrading

Stayed one night men-route home in our camper van. Made very welcome by the owners, their family and staff, nothing seemed too much. Great level site in their car park by the canal. Lovely home cooked food, great quality. Chef to be congratulated on his tasty menu. Thanks for your nice hospitality.

We ate lunch by the canal. Food and drink were nice. We had the Sunday Dinner Baguette on a Monday. It was great. Loads of meat and a big Yorkshire pudding along with the chips and gravy. Staff were nice.

Popular canal side pub with access from a countryside road or the canal. Plenty of parking for your car and moorings for your boat. Does Sunday lunch. Has a varied menu for food. Has a good pub garden and a play area to keep the kids occupied. I was served quickly. Wheelchair access. Dog friendly.

We took advantage of the Barley Mow's canalside location to meet up with old friends as we were passing through on our narrowboat and they in their motorhome. We booked a table for the evening & were glad we had as the place was busy with a mixture of locals and visitors eating and drinking. The atmosphere was lively and Richard and his staff were welcoming & attentive throughout our meal. A good range of lagers and ales were on offer and the menu was wide, varied and well priced. Our meals were delicious with ample portions; we thoroughly enjoyed our evening and would highly recommend that you call in and experience for yourself what good things Richard and his staff are doing here.

We stopped at the Barley Mow whilst on a Canal Boat Holiday, the welcome we got when we arrived was very polite and friendly, we had booked a table before arriving as we had heard it could be busy, once we ordered the food didn’t take long to arrive and everyone in the party really enjoyed their food, all in all a very enjoyable atmosphere and very friendly crowd in the pub, I would HIGHLY recommend anyone to come and stop and get something to eat and have a drink here, I will definitely be returning in the future, Thankyou very much Richard.

Party of 20 enquired about a meal A couple of days before we were arriving But being a bank holiday weekend we thought we were pushing our luck The Landlady and her husband said we could come and join in on a local wedding celebration But the kitchen would be closed and said we could order takeaways and eat them in the restaurant On arrival we couldn't have been made more welcome Sat us in a nice area and promptly came out with 20 plates and cutlery Then they noticed the Chef was still on site And rushed to ask if he was willing to cook our meals off the menu It was supposed to be his night off and the kitchen should have been closed He promptly laughed and got the ovens turned on so he could start cooking with the help of the proprietors daughter I can not thank Simon Kelly Monty and Hannah enough You certainly gave us all an amazing night to remember And we are all grateful of such amazing hospitality I can't wait to come back for more
