Great takeaway
We had friends visiting from the states, and of course they wanted fish and chips-Wetherby Whaler did not disappoint, as always!
Nice Food. Deffinately one of the very best chippers. They have a take away service or sit in.
The food is very well cooked and they have a good variety of fish available.
Very nice evening at the Wetherby Whaler. This establishment was very busy on arrival. The small car park was full.
There was quite a big queue but went down quickly due to staff efficiency.
The order came quickly but they got a couple of things muddled up but the correct order came back quickly with no stress from the waitress. I had a very nice scampi and chips followed by ice cream which filled me right to the top. The bill for the 5 of us was just under £100 which wasn't too bad as we all had 3 courses. I will definitely be back again. Well done.

Whilst staying in York for business purposes I decided to try the Wetherby Whaler and see what all the fuss is about.
Only a short walk from the Premier Inn and opted for take out.
I decided on Haddock, chips and mushy peas.
I did enquire if they leave the skin on (as some places do not skin haddock) and they told me no skin - so that’s a huge plus!
Not much of a wait so was pleasantly surprised at the quick turnaround for the food to be ready.
First glance at the fish it appeared to be crispy batter and once breaking into it, the fish was really good chunks of meat and not the usual flat and thin you can get at some locations.
The batter had a nice taste to it too and was not in the leathery but bland and tasteless.
The chips were done to perfection with the right amount of crispness and fluffy softness inside - just what a fish and chip shop should provide.
The mushy peas also done to perfection and not fluorescent green to be seen from space.
Overall a right nice fish chips and mushy peas dinner!

Family supper takeaway from this excellent, very popular chippy. Usual great tasting fish, chips and mushy peas. The service is friendly and efficient and the food was, as usual, really good.
What an amazing fish restaurant. If you like haddock try the whaler. It is the biggest plate of fish and chips you will ever get! See the picture I,m not kidding ot is huge. Great place for outing or couples or just on your own. The service is fantastic and the staff are so nice to everyone.
Myself and my family were delighted with the quality and quantity of the food we ordered. The service was also very good.
Also, standard is a cup of Yorkshire tea with fish and chips, what joy!!!

Service was very good, food was excellent. I had the mixed platter from the starter menu with a side of chips and everything( Calamari, S&P Squid, Butterfly Prawns, Scampi and Cod Bites) was top class. Mrs D had Haddock and Chips and said she found it very good as well. Portion sizes were more than adequate and overall cost was reasonable.
Not the first time we've eaten here and will definitely NOT be the last either. No problem in recommending this establishment.
Great food and great service. I had the pensioner special, £15.95 for three courses is great value! Well worth a visit.
We went to Weatherby Whaler in York for it’s most famous Fish and Chips. The food really matches its fame. We’ve ordered Sea Food Sharing Starters, Regular Haddock Fillet, Traditional Mushy Peas, and beverages. It was so sumptuous looking at the photo from above. This was my first time dining here. The taste of food is so unforgettable. I mean, really, really delicious. We enjoy it so much. Highly recommend.
Our first visit to a Wetherby Whaler and we were not disappointed. It's not just Yorkshire folk that appreciate quality, service and value-for-money. Nottinghamshire folk do too.
Lovely 3 course meal for seniors. 2 choices for starter 3 or 4 choices for mains and same for desserts. We would have liked a bit of bread with our meal but I do think you could order and pay for it as an extra.
One of our fish was better than the other as in thickness but both were covered in a light crispy batter. Service was quick. Nice friendly staff. We would definitely return again.
Was recommended to come here by a friend. I simply had the best fish and chips I have ever had in my life. The chips were cooked to perfection. The batter on the haddock was immaculate. Firm and crispy and plenty of it. I also had a side of mushy peas which were tasty. Throw in an enormous pot of tea, with a hot water pot to refill and I was in hogs heaven. The service was friendly and couldn’t do enough for us, which was first class. Probably the best £50 I’ve ever spent. I would highly recommend a visit. I also want them to expand and build a restaurant in Slough!
Great fish and chips and mushy peas we usually get the pensioner's choice as it's three courses, it fills me so that's one good thing, but they are fresh straight out of the pan. And they are the best in the area a lot of people will say that they prefer Thompson's on York road (A64) we used to go there but we prefer wetherby whaler 🐳.
Got fish and chips from the takeaway , staff were great , food was great and reasonably priced compared to other places who sell fish and chips . 5 stars all round
Fantastic as always! We come to Wetherby Whaler each year to celebrate birthdays and we’ve always had an excellent experience, the food cooked to perfection and the staff do a brilliant job. Highly recommend.
Nice fresh fish and chips in pleasant surroundings. Tasty choice of potatoes. It would be even better if they fried in vegetable oil. Premises a bit tricky to drive to if you haven't been before.
Always love coming here. First class fish, chips, mushy peas etc for lunch. Superb service by the restaurant staff. It wasn't very busy the day we visited, very popular with the "older" generation, (includes us). The set meal is super value. There is a popular basic Chippie attached if you just want a takeaway.
