Bart - The Place & Pub Finder

A piece of Herefordshire Pub History, also look up the The Bridge at Michaelchurch, but lunch time only if you want the sun, you can sit with the front door at your back and have the sun go from one side of the car park to the other, the true sign of a proper drinking pub.
As you enter the property, Bar on the right, dining room on your left, complete with 1970’s decor and a food menu to match
The bar is reputed to have been an influence on the set design of the film ‘American Werewolf in London’
Civil War Musket Ball holes on display in the dining room, complete with fire place.
I particularly like the rusty sign at the front, it’s a subliminal message for sensitive drinkers and over demanding people to stay away, but once you have ventured in you will become part of the Black Swan family
Nice off the beaten track pub. We didn't have food, but the beer was good and affordable. The staff and locals were all very friendly. Worth a visit if you're in the area.
What a Gem! The pub’s so incredibly wonky with incredible history. The manager is an amazing host and barman that keeps it as a proper country pub.
Pints aside, the food was delicious. We had the pie as recommended and it was incredible.
Like Swartznegger, we’ll be back.
I'm on holiday with my family which is a large group of people (18 to be precise) now I know a large group could be seen as a bit of a pain to cater for and indeed we had trouble finding places that could do so. After contacting the Black Swan we were told they were normally closed but would open the restaurant to accommodate us. The food was delicious and the hospitality excellent (bear in mind they should have been closed) the staff were really lovely and it was a lovely evening. We would like to thank the staff at the Black Swan for this excellent service.
Quintessential traditional village pub, serving great ales and food. A pint of Butcombe accompanied by a traditional roast beef dinner, in an atmospheric country pub is in my opinion the perfect way to spend a Sunday lunchtime 😁
We was on holiday from Essex and we booked a family of 18 people for a meal in the pub.... All we can say is AMAZING!!!! The food was delicious and served quickly...The staff went above and beyond to help us and we couldn't fault it... Was a lovely pub and we absolutely loved it... Brilliant pub and brilliant atmosphere....x
My partner and I came for lunch today 11/7. What a wonderful find! The building itself is beautiful. The food was great and the lady who served us was absolutely amazing. Thank you again and look forward to coming back.
The Black Swan is a truly charming and traditional pub with an outstanding history dating back to the 14th century. According to their own description there are even bullet holes still visible from an attempted assassination on Oliver Cromwell.
The food itself was outstanding and impressed us greatly, on two seperate occasions I ordered the fillet steak and the steak and ale pie, both these were cooked fantastically and of substantial portion size. The choice of chips, mash, new potatoes or other substitutes also add a nice variety to each dish.
The staff and locals were very welcoming and friendly promoting a warm atmosphere to dine and socialise in and coupled with extremely reasonable prices made for two very enjoyable meals.
Example of prices:
Fillet Steak - £22.00
Steak and Ale Pie - £14.00
Loved our simple lunch at this ancient pub. Lovely staff, very atmospheric place. Priest's hole, (poor priest!) With spinning wheel
Good food and friendly faces in a lovely old pub! Highly recommended.
I grow to love this pub more and more. Only two real ales but they change and keep it interesting. The food is simple but wholesome with changing vegetarian and vegan options, and excellent value for money. And the pub itself is quite amazing. Oh and finally, it's open on Mondays when the rest of Herefordshire is closed!
Wonderfully characterful old pub with exposed beams, sandstone walls and wonky bits. Very welcoming with a good selection of real ales, frequently changing, an open fire and even a pool table. What's not to like?
Unplanned visit whilst in the area and wonderful warm welcome. The food was home cooked and amazing quality and value.
Incredible steak pie and super friendly staff! A delightful olde English pub worthy of the long walk to get to it.
Fantastic pub with great food and drinks at very reasonable prices. We were staying at Lowe Farmhouse for the weekend and the Black Swan provided us with a lovely take out meal on the evening we arrived and Sunday lunch for the 13 of us before we departed. All food was plentiful and freshly cooked and we can thoroughly recommend. Thank you, we will be back.
We booked in early for dinner, as our group was 7 people.
We had a lovely dinner, 3 courses of good homely food (the pies were popular!)
They also had a few decent ales on tap.
The host was great and spent some time with us chatting and explaining the back story of the pub.
Nice pint plenty if choice a real characterful country pub atmosphere.. locals friendly and Rosie the dog was very entertaining
Quality home cooked food in ye olde Inn, of mostly 17th century vintage
Plenty of good beers and ales on tap, friendly locals and a roaring fire, what more could you want?! The food was excellent traditional pub fare including plenty of vegetarian options. A real gem.
