Went today for Sunday lunch - where to start! We arrived and kindly had our coats taken and hung up. It's a beautifully warm atmosphere with modern yet cosy decor. We decided to have a drink in the pub side - amazing service from Paul behind the bar and the two other gentleman who took our drink and food orders. A delicious array of breads brought to us to nibble on. When food was ready we were taken to our table and enjoyed two delicious courses. All staff were polite, kind and attentive and facilities perfectly clean. We would both 100% recommend and return, definitely good value for money and a lovely venue for a delicious Sunday dinner.
Fabulous food. Service very attentive and eager to please. Restaurant would highly recommend.. evening meal was the best we have eaten for a very long time.
Stayed for two nights, and was disappointed with the selection of breakfast choice. Cooked breakfasts were fine, but no "continental " style choice at all. No fresh fruits or yogurt. No cold meats or cheese. Very limited cereal. You definatley need to order from the menu sheet.
This place is just ideal for me.
The food is simply amazing, the service match’s the food and the ambiance is relaxed and intimate.
We’ve been here for lunch and dinner and it’s works as well for both.
The staff make you feel at home the moment you arrive and the entire experience one which I can thoroughly recommend.
Superb service from phone call booking to eating food. I can't recommend The Packhorse enough. The front of house staff are spot on. The food is so delicious. We will be coming back again.
My husband surprised me with a night away for my birthday yesterday. Could not fault it! The room was luxurious & the food was delicious. The staff were very friendly & attentive especially the bar man that made us some cocktails to celebrate. It was my first night away from my little boy & I will definitely be back again. I felt so relaxed & was a great treat for my birthday 🎈
Seriously impressed, went there for our 15th Wedding Anniversary, from start to finish the service was excellent, the food beautifully presented and tasted delicious. Great setting, friendly relaxed environment, highly recommend, we will be back
This is an amazing place. I would definitely recommend. If you get a chance to have a cocktail you will not regret it.
Just out for a stroll with two friends we thought we should stop for a refreshing beer on a local. But did we score? We asked for a little something to nibble on with the beer and the service gave us some very nice options until we discovered the lunch deal. It was not what we had in mind but - so pleased we changed our minds. Had a fantastic meal with the tenderest chicken imaginable and great friendly service.

Stayed here for a night with my fiance and have to say i thought the room was excellent and the food was amazing ! The service we received was first class from everyone especially Sam he really looked after us ! Will definitely be back at some point.

I am not from this town but this place got recommended to me and I know why. Stunning location, beautiful pub inside and outside. I ate outside as was sunny. The staff were lovely and attentive but the best part was the food. Was 11/10, so tasty, everything was cooked to perfection, wish I could come back sooner and wasn’t 3 hours away but if I’m ever driving through again I will make the stop. Highly recommended
We had an initial problem with our room, but this was effectively and courteously dealt with by the manager and was more than made up for by the excellent food and service we received. The newly extended restaurant is beautiful, with a wonderful outlook over the village green, and all the food we had was both delicious and attractively presented. However, it is always the staff who really make any place work and we can honestly say that everyone we met (including the singing chef!) were lovely, so thank you all for making our stay so enjoyable.
Haven't stayed, so can't comment on rooms. Very homely pub with fantastic food and drink. Part of the Chestnut Group. Newly extended dining area and bar area updated. Decent sized beer garden, Easily accessible from Newmarket 5-10 mins drive. Will be going back.
We are a party of 6 and stayed for horseracing, we love this hotel, the rooms are all lovely, every member of staff is a credit to your hotel, they are all friendly and accommodating. We had a meal at the hotel on the Saturday evening and the food was amazing, we would like to give a special mention to Lauren our waitress who was very helpful and friendly.
We stayed overnight in Stour which was a lovely comfortable room with no problems. We ate in the impressive new restaurant extension - we both enjoyed everything we had including the Ease Up IPA. Breakfast was also excellent although the waiter seemed flustered/rushed and we didn't get exactly what we ordered (and a couple on a nearby table seemed to have a similar experience) and the service was slightly below normal standards. I checked out of the hotel with the same waiter who was professional and calm, so perhaps just a temporary blip. Finally, your loyalty scheme continues to cause problems - I can't easily see my points/rewards and all Chestnut staff seem similarly frustrated by the process.

Please note that this rating is for the pub only, not the entire inn. We visited this location for a small holiday dinner party with friends from work. It was a lovely interior and the food was good. While they were quite busy, I still felt we had attentive service. While not private, we were able to enjoy everyone's company. I do, however, have a couple points worth noting. First, the food was a little pricey. Mains were all over £20 (except the veggie options which was £19). Drinks seemed to be about £10 and up, depending on the order. Add on a starter, dessert, and coffee...well, then you've got yourself a bit of a tab. So if you're looking for an inexpensive meal, you may want to look elsewhere. Additionally, the food portions were a little odd. My husband got the turkey and received an impressive plate piled high with food, while my hake dish was incredibly tiny and came with no sides (but cost about the same). Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the hake and honestly couldn't have eaten all of the meal my husband received, but the difference was stark and worth mentioning. Overall, though, I would say The Packhorse Inn made for a lovely evening!
Thank you to all the staff @ The Packhorse Inn - our evening of dinner for 13 people in your private room was fantastic! What a beautiful room! We all thoroughly enjoyed our evening - it was perfect in every way. And who knew that the highlight foodwise of the night would be the ex-dairy cow sharing main - WOW what a plateful of deliciousness. Everyone was delighted with the food. Thanks again - I definitely know where to book for a similar event in the future.

We enjoyed a lovely evening at The Packhorse. The new renovation is lovely. Food was amazing and the service was good. Special thanks to John who was excellent.
Enjoyed every single bite of the meal at The Packhorse Inn. I had a 3 course meal with a couple of beers, a bottle of wine and good company. Considering the quality, the price is reasonable. Ideal for those who want a romantic night out. There was also plenty of room for bigger groups. We will back this festive season.
I attended Sunday lunch yesterday. Beautiful food and lovely service. We were first served by an older man who took our drinks order. And then a lovely smiley young man named Jake who was very attentive, friendly and loved making conversation. Bravo to him 👏

Excellent food, beautiful location. Lovely place to start or finish a walk from Moulton to the three churches.
Always great food when I go here (it is still the only place ever I’ve enjoyed a mushroom dish).
Food is very good with good variety and decent service. The truffle chips are well worth having as an extra side.
Parking can be difficult at busy times so allow for this especially in poor weather.
The venue feel spacious yet cozy and I’ve always saved this place for nights out on special occasions.

Excellent menu choices and what we had was great.....nice presentation and tasty.
