Food is really good although a little shy on the veg as the portion recieved is for 2. Meat portion was really good some of the best gravy I've had. Dessert was also very tasty.
Atmosphere was ok could of done with maybe some light music. Fealt like a library when we first entered. Staff seemed very rushed at times but also seemed to lack enthusiasm.
This place is dog friendly.
Thanks Julia and Allan for a lovely warm welcome and for looking after us this weekend. Our room was much bigger than expected and spotlessly clean. Loved the toiletries and cafetiere for coffees. Breakfast next to the fire thismorning was amazing. Can't wait to come back!
Visited on a Monday evening so a little quiet and can’t comment on atmosphere in general but the food is great. Recommend the pulled beef burger which is huge and very very tasty. Very dog friendly.
Sunday Lunch
Advertised as their "famous Sunday roast," I'm not sure of its status of being famous, but I will say it was really excellent!
My husband had the roast chicken and I had the roast beef, both were generous portions.
There were both roast and mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables, mine had a Yorkshire pudding and the chicken came with stuffing. There was also the best gravy I've had in a long time. Thoroughly enjoyed everything about the meal.
We were both too full to have a desert, which was a shame as the choices all sounded delicious.
The service was good and the price was very reasonable for the quality of the meal.
The only negative was that you couldn't pay at the table, rather you had to go into the bar and queue up to pay, with only one person working on the bar it wasn't the best end to a lovely meal. Maybe this is something the management should consider changing.
Nice place to rest your head, rooms where big and the bed comfy. Only served food one night out of the 3 I spent but it was well prepared and tasted good so no complaints there.
Bar was well stocked and had a good atmosphere in there. Staff are friendly and happy to help.
Had a lovely stay here, dinner was lovely with cocktails and was reasonably priced room was very comfortable with a lovely breakfast that set us up for the day, the staff were nice and very friendly definitely recommend a stay here also there is free parking around the back.
Staff were excellent, and they also made me feel welcome .The choice of food was fantastic and plenty of it, breakfast was freshly made as this was not a self-service meal , had a wonderful 2 days stay
Went here to eat whilst in the area. Friendly host and great food. My wife had the Scampi which was plentiful and she said it was delicious as were the proper chips. I had a huge perfectly cooked mixed grill. all of it was obviously cooked to order. Only downside was the two unused handpumps.
Very friendly welcome from the staff. Had not booked and took a chance on a table being free and staff went out of their way to find us a table. Lovely pub with excellent value food and drink on the menu. Great menu with lots of options. Had the steak burger with bacon, very filling and tasty. Chips were excellent. Black Sheep beer was great. Will definitely recommend and return.
My mum gifted her competition prize of a Sunday roast for two to my husband and I and we had a wonderful time. The food was delicious, with a lovely selection of fresh vegetables, and the service was fantastic - so friendly. The decor and furnishings are looking lovely following the recent refurb, too. We’ll definitely be going again soon!
A wonderful welcome to the town!
We arrived for the first day of a short break just in dinner time and looking back I am glad we found The Queens Head.
Sanitisers were available by the door and customers were encouraged to clean hands before walking in the restaurant. We have guided a table for 4 and tables had dividers strategically place to maintain social distancing.
A wide selection of traditional British dishes was available on the menu. There was also a specials menu which the staff could have made us aware of but we weren’t disappointed by the food we ordered.
We decided to take for all of our food to come together and ordered creamy mushrooms, portion chips, chicken strips which with a portion of chips with its self and chicken with haggis cooked in peppercorn sauce, and all of the food was just delicious.
The creamy sauce with mushroom was memorable, chicken strips were freshly cooked and well battered. It was the first time
my daughter was having haggis, and she absolutely loved it. Along with all the great food, the chips felt ordinary.
The dessert is what made me give 5-star for my rating. I have yet to a rocky road which melts in the mouth, disappointed I didn’t order that for myself and had to rely on my daughters will to share her delicious dessert. I ordered Biscoff Cheesecake, which was one of a kind too and comes highly recommended.
If you are in town, don’t leave without eating here.
We didn’t eat here as the chef had a day off However the beds were very comfy and we liked our room . Good location too
Great food and welcoming atmosphere. The whole village is a great visit.
Great food.
Very friendly young lady serving.
Been twice in a week. Will definitely be going back.
Cannot rate this place enough - fit us in for Xmas dinner at last minute and it was fantastic. Alan is absolutely amazing and definitely the hostess with the mostess (not sure what the guys equivalents are!). The food is absolutely lush and it’s dog friendly too - didn’t take ours as they’re not well behaved enough. Thank you so much Alan and team for making our Christmas very special xx
Really great pub, very friendly staff and lovely food. Just sad we found it on the last night of our holiday.
Had a beautiful lunch here sat outside in the sunshine it was lovely friendly staff and locals
