Reviews Palaco

It's easy to walk past Palaco, it's tiny and only open a couple of nights a week. Having been intrigued by this little restaurant that keeps funny hours, taunting me with its little menu in the locked door my better half looked it up and made a booking via Facebook. It's hard to describe in words how quirkily brilliant this place is. Seemingly staffed by just two people, the waiter/chef/owner bumbles about, talking to the customers, taking orders, serving drinks and selecting tunes from his rather eclectic collection before disappearing into the kitchen. At random intervals he emerges with small plates of delicous food and distributes them to the six or so tables. The food is served when it's ready, a refreshingly informal format that makes for enjoyable grazing. It's mildly chaotic and yet relaxing at the same time. Everything we had was brilliant. They bake their own bread which was served with yummy olives. The prawns were to die for. The chorizo in cider was so good I used far more than my fair share of that fresh crusty bread (apologies fellow diners) to mop up every last drop of the sauce. The romesco sauce that came with the chicken with perfectly cooked crispy skin was so tasty the plate went back clean enough to skip the washing stack. We finished the meal off with the singular dessert option; amarreto semifreddo, perfect. The drinks selection followed the eclectic theme too. Blue Monkey are new to me but I love their Infinity pale ale, BG sips is pretty good too. A carafe of chilled rough red followed which suited the meaty mains perfectly. The house white, a godello, was spot on too. I've come to the conclusion that Palaco must be a hobby project of a secret millionaire that wants to act as a culinary benefactor to the folk of Morley. It seems too small and too cheap to make the owner much money. However, I do think it's the best thing since sliced bread and definitely the best restaurant in Morley. Can't wait to go again.
