I literally can't find a fault with this place.
It was superb service, delicious food and a great atmosphere.
The place itself is tastefully decorative.
We visited on a Saturday, and although the place was fully booked, they didn’t let this impact their service in the slightest. Even the wait time on food was on point.
I would definitely recommend this pub if you're looking for a great food experience all round.
It is on the pricier range of lunch/dinners, but you get what you pay for, and you will not be disappointed.
10/10 from me.
A little gem of a gastro pub. First time here and wasn't disappointed. Lucky enough to have a table outside on the hottest day of the year ☀️. Service was great, food wasn't cheap but what we had was great. Possibly too big the portions as I struggled to tuck it all away! I just kept enough room to polish it off with Rhubarb and Custard though 😉 Would I recommend The Dog and Pickle ... absolutely 👌
In LOVE with the dog and pickle, or as we call it… the dickle!! 😍🤩
The atmosphere is so homely, the staff are always there to give you a warm welcome, even the customers!
The cocktails, and the food are absolutely out of this world, every time!
Hats off to the chefs, and Dave you’re incredible!!
Thanks to all of the staff for always being so personable and for making every visit one to remember.
This is our go to place…
I highly recommend the sharing roast.
I love that every month/week there’s a different special, and a change up in the menu including the cocktails.
You will never get tired of coming here!!
Really looking forward to trying their outdoor grill this summer, see you again soon 😍🔥
The food, drinks, service and atmosphere were all absolutely perfect. We celebrated our anniversary there and the staff couldn't do enough to make sure we had a great time even though the whole place was really busy, they were all very attentive. The food was delicious and cooked to perfection and the cocktails were gorgeous 😍
Best roast I’ve ever had.
I really recommend coming here for their roast, it tasted phenomenal. It is very clear that the kitchen takes pride in their cooking and the quality of the ingredients used. Great portion size.
Im not a fan of gravy but this gravy is an exception, so tasty!
The vegan nut roast was lacking however. It was tiny!
I loved the interiors and the staff were very friendly/ helpful. Hard to believe that it’s only been open since 2021, very professional.
Will definitely be coming back, the al fresco menu is enticing!
Fantastic venue! We particularly enjoyed the menu choice (the set menu is very tempting and very reasonably priced) we were all struggling to choose what to have!
The food was all delicious, probably one of the best parfaits I’ve ever had (I’ve had a lot) and all presented beautifully,
The staff were engaging and knowledgeable- clearly enjoying their jobs which is always a comfort when being waited on!
The setting is the cherry on top, it really is lovely and I’m sure especially in the summer but we’ll be back before then!!
Stopped in on Saturday afternoon for lunch with my daughter. Staff were welcoming and the servers were attentive and polite. Food was very good, Banofee Sunday was excellent. Atmosphere was good and the place was clean and modern.
Absolutely incredible. The best meal out I've had in years. Every single detail was spot on - the staff and customer service are as outstanding as the food and the drinks.
I highly recommend you visit.
Want to go back already. Well done Dave and all his team.
We fell in love with The Dog & Pickle from the moment we saw it from outside. There is a handy patrons car park and a large outdoor area to enjoy a meal when the weather allows it. Once you set foot inside you feel welcome straight away and the atmosphere is pleasant and friendly. The decor is also very nice: the colourful and very comfortable chairs, the wooden tables and the majestic fireplace set the tone and you just feel at home. The menu is very extensive and includes vegan options which my friends really enjoyed. The starters were absolutely to die for, especially the beef ribs croquettes. For main I had a delicious traditional Sunday roast with all the trimmings, prepared by Head Chef and owner Dave. The desserts were equally amazing and prepared with care and dedication by Pastry Chef James. We like the fact that Dave and James, were seen in the dining area making sure everything was to customers’ liking. That gave the whole experience the personal touch that’s hard to find in similar establishments. The service was also efficient. We enjoyed so much the whole experience that we stayed longer than originally planned...
Thank you and see you soon!
Located in a beautiful little village. There is lots of parking which some of it isn't very 'high heel friendly'. The outside is gorgeous and although we haven't visited in the summer, we definitely will. The inside is stylish, clean and welcoming. The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. We skipped starter but our mains were delicious and everything was cooked to perfection. Desserts were as equally delicious but I could have eaten two of them. Can't wait for our next visit

Really nice pub near Ongar. Nice if you wanna get out of the city. Food is well presented and staff were no1
The Dog & Pickle, Essex, WOW what a great find… the food here is simply off the scale, prob the best Roast I have ever had, ps expect home-cooked ones of course!
The sharing roast is so big there is no need for any starters or any extras at all… The sharing roast comes with 3 selections of meat, the best Turkey I have had, tender roast beef, and the roast pork was simply divine. The roasted parsnips, sweet carrots, cauliflower cheese, and stuffing were unreal. To top it the duck fat roasties are incredible, and the Yorkies are yummy!
So, on par with the Lion Inn, the Dog & Pickle food is sooooo much better, but the Lion Inn venue and experience wins hands down!
The Lion Inn There's a new dog in town chasing that Roar!! 🦁, you better watch out!
The décor and ambience was pleasant with a clean outdoor seating and warm interior. The staff were patient and friendly however not completely knowledgeable about everything on the menu despite its small size. The food was nearly impeccable on all accounts however the scallops were somewhat disappointing. The deserts were adequate and I would recommend the chocolate indulgence which had a nice breadth of flavour with potent raspberries on the side. On the other hand somewhat surprisingly the sticky toffee pudding was quite lacklustre. This final bill amounted to what a nice meal out in London might cost you which may be hard to justify despite the tasty dishes and atmosphere. Great tapwater tho.
Nice decor and friendly service. The food was over seasoned with salt which was a shame otherwise would have been lovely.
I've been coming here regularly for a while, and the food never fails to deliver.
The burger and hotdogs are the standout dishes, and the steaks are amazing.
They also do some great cocktails that are served in some unusual vessels!! The red phone box strawberry daiquiri is great 👌.
This is not a normal pub so don't expect normal pub prices $$$ but worth it
